I'm surprised no one has brought up a fictional interpretation of Japan. You have the city of Tokyo, the cherry blossom places like Kyoto, and the true country of Okinawa. It'd offer a very diverse experience, and provide a nice backdrop for their fish out of water approach.

Man, now I gotta go play GTA IV again...

CJ or Niko should visit the Concrete Jungle that is called Detroit.
          MLB - Detroit Tigers
          NFL - Detroit Lions
          NHL - Detroit Red Wings
          NBA - Detroit Pistons
          NCAAF - Michigan Wolverines
          NCAAB - Kentucky Wildcats

Re: Grand Theft Auto - Where will it be next?

I always thought they just took the idea of making remakes of all the most popular gangster movies and tv shows and put those settings in the game.

Vice City - Miami Vice in the 80's
San Andreas - Boys in the Hood, Godfellas of the 80's

If anything they will have to choose whether this project is a modern day story or a look back at a certain time period like Vice City and San Andreas was. In the old GTA days they had futuristic locations.

However in my opinion sticking to the movie/tv show remakes would be the best bet.

The most popular shows right now about city crime and ethnicities would be Sopranos and The Wire, however both shows take place in areas that are not Huge Cities like LA, SF, NY and MIA.

Boston and Chicago just don't bring enough of a history and a ethnic diversity of different crime dramas like the others have.

If anything Rockstar with the GTA 3's basically just copied the Original "Driver" game which had all 3 locals in the 70's/80's...

NY - French Connection, the Warriors
            SF - Bullit
            MIA - ScarFace, Miami Vice

If anything there needs to be a place which offers a big city with lots of diversity in terms of the ethnicity and a story that would correlate to a movie or show that would instantly allow you to re-live those movie and tv moments in the game.

In my opinion they have used up the american locals and the only places that I could see making some huge impact in terms of story and places that could offer up diversity and big city locals would be in my opinion...

            1. South Africa - Cape Town - there have been several movies about aparthied and more, the possiblities and the story here could be very intersiting. Can't think of any movies that have played this out.

            2. Brasil - Rio De Janiero - City of God could be a good movie influence as where to get some ideas of a compelling story. Only problem here as this is not an english speaking country and the voice talent and acting could be tricky.

a full game in a Las Vegas based city would be cool.

besides that though, i agree that they should do an international city. I know an earlier GTA was in London (i think it was the second one), but that would be a cool local (although that setting would be very similar to NY/Liberty city)

If they dont do Las Vegas, I would bet that they will go outside of the US for the next one, especially with the insane popularity that this game has internationally. It broke all kinds of records in the UK.

but anyway, who cares...that will be quite a few years from now. GTA IV will be enjoyable for quite a long while (and it will have DLC).

Atlanta, the state of Texas, the northern mid west (Chicago, Detroit, whereever), the south mid west (NO, Memphis, St Louis), and of course, Montana, Nebraska, and Oklahoma in the Grand Theft Methlab.

Going with the movie/tv show aspect with buildings and locals that are world famous, only Chicago has all those aspects. Other than that none of those places though relevant to you would be as big as in grand scale as say NY, MIA, SF and los vegas which was done already with San Andreas.

At this point R* is trying to make dollars and not just churn out a game every year. They are looking for a place worthy of a 2 or 3 year development cycle and get a great payoff off of it.

Not only is this game being sold here in the US, but it sold records in the UK. I definetly think the local plays a big part of it.

I think a GTA in an upscale city in the Middle East would be pretty intense. Like a city in Kuwait or Saudi Arabia.....lots of potentially HUGE storylines.

they got to churning out the ps2 games quickly. Since the engine is built, all they have to do is make the new location in the game and make a decent script. Between late 2001 and 2007, they put out 5 GTA games off the same engine. Don't see any reason why it would take longer than the time it took between Vice City and San Andreas.

If its gonna be in Europe I'd wanna see Berlin, Prague or somewhere in former Yugoslavia.

If Asia then Hong Kong or Tokyo.

I'm not sure about Africa or SA or Australia.

If back in the US then New Orleans or Houston for sure.
