Re: Bayonetta (360/PS3)
Finished first playthrough. Favorite 3D action game confirmed. It's like the sequel to DMC that Kamiya-san never got to do. It takes the best from that school of design, along with bits of God Hand and NG, grand scale of the GOW series, then combines them with the most ridiculously stylish and over-the-top action ever in a game of it's type.
Controls are so smooth and the combat system is the most fun and versatile I've ever experienced. The number of moves and with each different weapon combination bringing a new set, the scope for unique play-styles is crazy. It's also a combat system that the player feels moreso, than plays.
These types of games aren't really lauded for their level design, but Bayonetta should be. It's really inspired and you're not backtracking through large portions of levels again like similar games have you doing. I especially like the Super Mario Galaxy changing of perspectives.
There's so much variety from the gameplay, environments, enemy designs, and bosses. Speaking of bosses, epic doesn't begin to describe them and not only that, but their genuinely well designed and fun to fight, which I think is a rarity these days.
While I've only been gushing over this game, it certainly has some flaws: Random QTEs that result in a death if missed. Story is to convoluted. Technical issues outside of combat - some screen tearing and minor slowdowns. While the homages to old SEGA classics were cool, I think they lasted a little to long. Otherwise a fantastic game, if you're fan of the type of game or action games in general, you need to play this. For all the dude-bros, it's okay, Bayonetta is not a threat to your masculinity.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Bayonetta (360/PS3)
At first I thought this would take 15 hours to playthrough but I started over because my gf wanted to see the story from the beginning and I'm on the last chapter with just under 10 hours put into the game. I'd actually put it at around 8 or so, if it wasn't for me sucking so badly and dying so many times.

Re: Bayonetta (360/PS3)
You get so many more halos on Hard. I got almost 50K on the very first verse. Moon accessory is awesome. It completely changes the gameplay by allowing you to parry attacks like in Street Fighter III.
What's you guys favorite weapon combinations?
I like the sword and durga claws on feet - lightning claws mostly, but I quickly switch to fire with Witch Time activated to do some serious damage. I like the whip and ice skates as my second combo - the ice skates are just so much fun. Scarborough fair and Lt. Col is a good combo too.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Bayonetta (360/PS3)
Chapter VII - Easiest part of the game to keep your combo high. Equip durga claws (lightning) to hands, anything on the feet. Equip Gaze of Despair accessory. If you don't have it, that's okay, it will only take one time to get enough to purchase it. Spam Y throughout the whole fight and rack up lots of halos. Around 300-500k without Gaze of Despair and with it 800K-1M+.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Bayonetta (360/PS3)
From Penny Arcade
I used to love looking in game magazines for those photos people used to send in, pictures of the screen itself or the player in front of the screen, showing off a newly minted high score in the way our primitive forebears might have displayed some horned carcass. Of course, such images may be altered now: it is a grotesque fact of the modern world that we literally cannot believe our eyes. We can retain the elegance and beauty of the old ritual, though, by verifying the truth of it via Achievements and Trophies.
The contest is thus: upon defeating Bayonetta in Hard Mode, snap a picture of the screen with or without yourself in the classic Myspace mode. Send this picture to [email protected], along with your Gamertag or PSN ID. We aren't going to get up to anything fruity with it: we'll be using this to check if you've earned "Umbra Elder," at which point we will send you something awesome.
The first five hundred people to do so will get a shirt that Kiko designed exclusively for this purpose - here are some shots of the front and back. It is rad, and pulls from design elements on her iconic pistols. Size Large. If that is too small for you, we've tested it, and it fits perfectly on lynxes or other mountain cats. You know. If you have one of those.
Distilled, the contest is as follows:
- Open Only To Those In The Continental US
- Defeat Bayonetta On Hard, Earning The "Umbra Elder" Achievement/Trophy
- Entries Must be Sent To [email protected]
- Entry Must Include Your Gamertag/PSN ID, Photo Of Final Credits, And A Current Address
- First Five Hundred Valid Entries Will Win A Rad Shirt
- The Shirt Is Size LargeComment
