Re: Lack Of Video Game Leisure Time As You Get Older

I manage to get enough gaming time in with a wife and 3 kids. I'll play some with my younger son in the evening. We are slowly working our way through the Subspace in Smash Bros. I game about 1-2 hours a day, but that will decrease now with summer approaching.
One problem though is not enough time for M games like GTA4. I have to wait till the kids are in bed and sometimes by then I am too tired or not in the mood to play.

This pretty much describes my situation to a T. I'd love to play more COD4, GTA IV, NBA 2k8, CH 2k8, or the Show 08 but I usually have to choose just one to play when I get time which sucks. Thank god for in game saves in the Show. I played about 5 innings and went to bed at 11:30 because I was just too tired.

This is a great topic. I feel guilty sometimes, not by playing, but having all of this expensive equipment around and not playing enough (I have a 360 and a PS3). I could use the money on home improvements or the kids' college funds. Man though, it is fun to play a game of the Show, or CHoops, or Guitar Hero, or Fifa, or Tiger Woods, or ...

I've thought about trying to get work let me work 4 days a week at 10 hours instead of 5 days at 8. They allow some people with kids to do it to save on daycare, but maybe I could use rising gas prices as an excuse. I'd just need to get up a 1/2 hour earlier, take a "working" lunch, and leave 1/2 hour later. Then, every Friday, with the wife at work, would be GAMING DAY! And when we have kids, it would be father/son (or daughter) bonding day.
Good idea, my wife would however turn gaming day into chore day though.

I remember in college, we would meet back at my dorm around 1:00 when everyone was done with classes. Have NBA Jam or Tecmo Bowl tourneys till around dinner time. Then, some would go out, some would stay and play. Great freakin' times. When I got married (b4 kids) nothing was better than being off on a weekday while the ol' lady had to work...9 hour gaming marathons with Madden, Civilization, NBA Live...Now with kids, I have to stop buying games because they just sit on my shelf collecting dust. I love Bioshock, but I can only play it when the kiddos are crashed, and at that point I'm not far behind them. Only CH2K8, and Call of Duty 4 are getting run from me nowadays. GTAIV is just sitting there. Man, just to have 1 free day to eat, sleep, and play games...hello Fathers Day!

It would be a lot harder to handle if the majority of sports games were actually still good.

I'm basically done playing a lot of videogames

I spent 36 hours the last three days studying for a test I won't take for another month. My time will only be more limited as I get older- it sucks

It helps that I don't buy football games anymore and I don't plan on doing so anytime in the near future (helps my wallet too!). I used to s spend a lot of time with those. I've definitely matured as a gamer and am far more selective now than I was before. I'll play a game of the Show now and then as well. Halo and GTA I try to get games in pretty regularly but I can't binge game like I used to do.

                      Haha.

I started playing about 10pm and played til about 8am. Went to bed and woke up at 3pm. It was terrific.

Felt like it used to during my old summers.

Wish i had more time to play, but like most of you, i have a fiancee/soon to be wife (wedding in 20+ days) so the last 6 months has been spent either planning, helpnig or consoling my fiancee. Plus with a regular 40 hour a week job (which really means 50 hours), gaming time is nill.......meh

Congrats on the upcoming nuptials. Sorry for the lack of game time. It will increase for a while, you will start having kids and then you will be singing the blues

Considering I have a wife and two kids, career, household responsibilities and enjoy working out, my gaming time has gone down a fair amount, but I still play a decent amount. Since the DVR allows us to watch TV when we want, I rarely choose TV over gaming (unless it's sports). I just feel that most TV programs now are garbage.

I also still get those "personal days" (my wife and I both), where I will play nearly all day long. For example, when NCAA drops, there will be a dedicated day for that one. Seriously. It's already on the calendar.

Oh, and I just played Rock Band last night with a surgeon I work with for almost 6 hours straight. Yeah! It feels good to feel like a kid sometimes.
