Last night I finally beat Snow ((Hey Oh)) on expert guitar. It was the last song I own that I hadn't beaten. But of course I have a code to redeem for Sleepwalker, so maybe that will be the new pain in the butt.

What's your trick for the main riff?

Sleepwalker is a pain. Congrats on beating Snow... that song isn't easy. After I beat it, I deleted it from my HD because I hated it showing up in random setlists.

No trick, just speed. I upstrummed the whole thing (I'm weird and never downstrum), so I didn't have to alt strum it. By no means did I keep a combo, but I never needed overdrive to bail me out. I saved it for the chord fest sections and managed 180k and 4 stars.

I had done that for a long time, because I couldn't beat it. But a buddy of mine just beat it, so the competitive juices got me going. What a pain though. I had never come close to beating it before. I played it twice to see if it was a fluke and I beat it both times...just another hurdle cleared I guess. You can never really stop getting better at this game.

                  No, you are normal.

Okay, we have to make a poll for this one, because I am happy that I have finally found somebody else that upstrums. If you are a guitarist (even if you're not), you should know that fingerpicking is done upward (unless you want to use your thumb for the low E string, but you don't have to do that either). And if you're a hardcore bassist I can see why you may like to downstrum in this game. Otherwise, upstrumming is how it's done. I can't believe the number of people that downstrum. I mean literally every person I have watched play this game ever since Guitar Hero came out downstrums.

I need to find out how many guitarists out there upstrum and downstrum in these games.

Anyway, what I meant for the riff is do you keep your fingers on the lower frets while going to higher frets? Do you strum during the HO/PO notes in case you miss them? I just have to formulate a strategy for this, because this song is much easier to play on regular guitar than it is on this game. In fact, what's really weird is I charted this exact song when I first started making GH custom charts. It's just funny that I can't solve this chart, though I haven't tried in a while.

I shall try later this morning.

Excuse me, WHAT? Last time I checked all bassists upstrum and all guitarists downstrum(or alt-strum). I don't know where you got your information, but I'm friends with lots of guitarists and bassists, have seen many videos on youtube and I can't find a shred of evidence to support your theory.

I'm not talking about STRUMMING strumming, I'm talking about fingerpicking. Like when you play Sweet Home Alabama, Good Riddance... even Snow like I was talking about earlier.

I guess I'm not a bassist so I was just playing the assumption game there, but I know how a lot of people like to jam on the top string with the thumb.

Uhh well, most guitarists that play with a pick will use down picking or alternate picking. It doesn't matter on this game because there is only one "string" so economy of motion doesn't matter, as long as you can move the flipper. I think most people use their thumb mainly when they play so people use down strokes.

I use a pick when I play this game

You use a pick? I tried that once... didn't bode well for me.

I'm talking about fingerpicking though, not... pick picking. I mean using fingers. You can't use a pick and play, say, the low E string and the B string at the same time like you would have to for a song like Tears in Heaven. For some songs it just can't be done and you have to use your fingers. You can use your thumb for the low E string (though I don't), but for your fingers you pick upward.

Blzer, I play real guitar, but I think of strumming when playing rock band, not picking strings because obviously there isn't any. I think of it as is I'm playing some chords, I'm going to down strum or alt strum.
