There's no towns. It wouldn't really fit with the storyline either since basically everyone is out to get you..

But yeah, no towns in the traditional sense. There's no need for inns since you recover after each battle, and all the weapon/item buying/upgrading is done at save points.Comment

I ended up abandoning this after getting Resonance of Fate. I really should finish it so it doesn't end up in the pile and I can trade it in but now it's even more difficult to do.
The end of disc one was still the only time it felt like a FF game.Comment

I'm quite stunned at all the diverse opinions on this game. I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan, loved X and XII (really didn't like VII as much as the masses), with VI as my favorite of all time...and I'm enjoying this one immensely!
Granted, part of that is because I was totally lights out for three years, which even I'm shocked by. The first time I popped it into my PS3 was the first time I saw the game in action. I had only seen screenshots in magazines before.
Sure it's linear, sure it's a little simple with the "Auto Battle" thing, but I'm hooked on the story and can't wait to get back to it after my son goes to bed (just started Chapter 3).
Ah well, to each his own. I can definitely see that a lot of people who fell in love with Oblivion, Fallout, etc. not enjoying Japanese style RPGs, and maybe part of my love is nostalgia. Still, I'm having a blast and I hope others are as well.I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be. - Douglas Adams

Well I've gotten to Chapter 3 and I just don't feel like this game if for me. Luckily I bought it used from Gamestop and am still within the 7 day window.
Although I'm sure if I stuck it out I'd probably learn to love it, the fact remains that I've fallen sound asleep 3 times while playing this game, and the characters annoy the crap out of me.
Guess it just wasn't for me.Comment

I've put in a good 7 hours in & I'm loving it. Yeah its easy at first but I'm enjoying the paragim set up & I really like how the game flows from battle to battle. I've played almost all FF games out & though its different from its family it still feels like a really good FF game to me.
