Re: Final Fantasy 13 (PS3/XBOX 360)
Those sites giving this game a "5" or a "6" are sites that I definitely will never read a review from again. They can say that its their "opinion", but thats pure BS. They're being intellectually dishonest. Those kinds of scores are reserved for games with multiple technical glitches/bugs, missing content, and aesthetics(Graphics, music, voice acting) that are reminiscent of a console from a previous generation.
They're simply mad that the developers chose a design direction that they, the reviewer, don't like. So they're "punishing" Square Enix for having the audacity to discard many supposedly "sacred" role-playing conventions. Again that's BS.
If a persons so vehemently dislikes severely linearity that is caused them to view the whole game through that narrow prism, they they should recuse themselves from reviewing that kind of game.
It would be like having me review a sports game with no franchise mode, I wouldn't do it, because there is no way I could give the game a fair shake.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Re: Final Fantasy 13 (PS3/XBOX 360)
I have been playing rpg's since the first final fantasy. I lost interest in FF after FFX. I think series has never got it's footing since then. It has just been tinkered with too much. I like exploring i just think it's what an rpg is. Linear turns me off in a rpg. And i'm hearing story is just so so. I might buy used some months from now out of curiosity. I think this will be heavily traded in because it has zero replay value. The Bright One is my Point of Reference, It's my Guide And it always becomes The Center of my Chart. I Always name it Dionne. I have no interest in this game, Japanese RPG's are not my thing, but I have been reading the reviews and I agree with you. The 5's and 6's seem to be made just because they didn't agree with the design choices of the game compared to previous games in the series and not the game not being good.
Also, the fact the teamxbox reviewed the game without even finishing it is just plain stupid.Comment

If people would stop reviewing the genre and just review FF 13 based on gaming merits, I doubt the game would get anything than a 7. But then again I don't have the game yet.Redskins, Lakers, Orioles, UNC Basketball , and ND Football

Re: Final Fantasy 13 (PS3/XBOX 360)
I agree with the last few comments.
The best review I've seen so far was the Game Trailers one. They were honest, but also pointed out that their negatives or rather disappointments could not only be overlooked, but didn't detract from the enjoyment.
I personally am disappointed at where the game seems to have headed but I certainly wouldn't take it personal and give a game a 5 or 6 because of it.Comment

Re: Final Fantasy 13 (PS3/XBOX 360)
I have reservations about this title for a few reasons, but really, the linear style of the first half of the game isn't of much concern. Here's a news flash people - every Final Fantasy game (aside from XI) has been linear in nature.
None of the previous ones were as obviously so, but every game has been scripted in that you and your party go here before you can go here. The only difference seems to be that with XIII there is no chance to walk around the towns and talk to NPC's. In some ways I can see that being positive as the majority of NPC's in these games are just filler, but also its a negative as some NPC's were used to give you quests or point you in the right direction. This game seems to do that for you, I suppose it becomes a matter of taste whether that is good or not.
Since Final Fantasy IX, this is the direction the series has been moving in. FFX got rid of the world map, traditional air ship design, and was really quite linear in nature. XII was even more linear, though you were always given the option to to pause the main narrative in favor of monster hunting. From what I understand, XIII does the same thing, but it requires you play for about 30 hours before you're given that freedom.
As I stated before, I consider this good and bad. A lot of time was wasted in previous games just running around town essentially doing nothing. Especially in the post SNES games when the towns become huge. I do miss the airship days though as that was always a highlight of every Final Fantasy game and while both X and XII had an airship, you didn't control it or anything which felt lazy.Comment

Do you guys think that this game would have had higher scores if it was exclusive to PS3 or 360? Sometimes cross plats get the shaft.Comment

Personally no, I think most of it deals with the new design decisions and cut content as well as the FFXII-esque combat control system.Last edited by Pokes; 03-06-2010, 09:50 AM.Oklahoma State Cowboys 2011 Big XII Champions, 2012 Fiesta Bowl Champions

Games with "missing content" or technical glitches should get 1s or 2s.
The baseline that games should be given a 7 or 8 is absurd. Personally, I'm glad that reviewers are actually listing the negatives for a big game instead of just fluffing them up like they did with GTA4 and MGS4.Comment

Re: Final Fantasy 13 (PS3/XBOX 360)
I've been playing a lot of RPGs lately -- a genre that I used to not be too fond of in the past. Final Fantasy XIII looks interesting, but I'm still on the fence. I'm all about storyline in these type of games. Have most FF games been pretty good in that department? I've seen several reviews mention a lot of cheesy dialogue.Comment
