Eurogamer: The Zombie Island of Doctor Ned Review - 8
Whatever the time of year, then, Halloween and Borderlands is a great match, and if this is the way the game's DLC is going to unfold, I'd happily have a dozen of these quirky, colourful offshoots to plough through. Zombies were never going to let Gearbox down too badly, of course, but I left Doctor Ned's island with the feeling that somebody had taken real care over the whole experience, crafting the story with love and wit.
If nothing else, it's entirely fitting that a game that's always been brilliantly brainless is now genuinely brain-dead as well. Oh, and I finally got that bloody Mario-themed Achievement. SCORE.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Borderlands
I beat the game on Sunday so I started my 2nd play through while I was downloading the new DLC. I was at level 36 and got to the first skagg mission when the download was finished so I traveled to the new area and the first mission was for level 42 and was labeled impossible. I then went and chose my 1st play through for that character and then started the DLC and the missions were at level 36 so just a caution.
I only played about 40 minutes but I really like the new look of the area. The graphics along with the music really gives it an uneasy feeling. The zombies are well done and have some neat attack patterns.
I can see them adding new DLC for awhile because of the nature of the game it's easy to add new adventures and the replay value is always there.XBL: Countach

Re: Borderlands
I'm thinking of getting this game this week when I get my paycheck... it'll give me something to do during the Thanksgiving break, but I don't know if it's worth it. I really enjoyed Fallout, and I never got to finish it because it was for the PS3 and my bro owned that PS3... I'm an average fan of FPS, but I'm in the mood for some RPG I think. I was thinking of Assassin's Creed, but it looks like pretty much the same game as the first one except it looks like it was the game that the first one was supposed to be this time. Besides, I never got to finish the first one (trying to get 100% in each stage...so it took me a while and eventually I got bored with it, but I still have to finish it one of these days when I'm really really really bored).
I enjoy games like Oblivion and Fallout 3 (for the four hours I played. Will get back on it with GOY Edition sitting in my room, but I want to get through a few games first).
I am having a really good time with this title. I'm also not a big Modern Warfare-type fan, so my tastes are very different. It's possible that I'm just opening up to the genre. But, it's important to note that Borderlands is the title that's giving me reason to try more of these titles in the future.
Now, I've only just started playing yesterday (maybe three hours worth). So it's still really early in the game and I've only just gotten through the first boss which pretty much gets me through the "tutorial" stages of the game. If I'm enjoying it now, I can't imagine how much I'll like it when I play again."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Borderlands
Finally got this game (late)...
The graphics are ok, a bit weird with the semi-cell shaded look but I got used to it. Some slowdown on PS3 is annoying though. And probably unforgivable considering it slows down in a couple random areas where there isn't even much happening on screen. But it's pretty rare.
Gameplay is pretty good, nothing new or special. The gunplay isn't as well done as some of the better games but it's fun.
Not enough sound options. There needs to be one for voices as the they seem funny and add to the atmosphere but they are just too low.
RPG elements are the best thing about it. I love levelling, I love that enemies don't level up with you (like the recent annoying FF games), I like that when you pass through early areas they stay low and you can wipe them out pretty quick and I like that you can slowly and intelligently take out higher level baddies if good enough or if you are too low, grind for a while until you level then take them down.
I don't think the game does anything great or worth raving about but my goodness it's one of the most addictive games in a long time so it must be doing something right! I am level 17 already and loving it!Comment

Take-Two: Borderlands A Long-Term Franchise
The freshman initiation for Borderlands is over. It has passed the sales test.
During Take-Two's financial call this afternoon, CEO Ben Feder expressed enthusiasm for the long-term outlook of its hit new shooter franchise, and hinted at possible sequels going forward.
"We have long term publishing rights to sequels of Borderlands and expect this to become a key franchise for Take-Two," he stated.
October launch sales of the title reached over 500K units sold, which for a new franchise is deemed a success. Gearbox announced recently the game became the fastest selling new title of 2009.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Borderlands
Wow, you're leveling fast or just played a whole lot before telling us.
I haven't noticed any slowdowns on the PS3, though. Then again, I never seem to notice frame rate issues that people talk about. I think I just never care."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Borderlands
As Admiral said: there isn't anything amazing that this game does, but it's fun and addicting and somehow takes all of it's basic approaches and makes the experience worthwhile. That's what you want from a game. Easy to pick-up-and-play, difficult enough for a challenge, fun experience."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Borderlands
Gearbox trademarks Borderworlds
Gearbox has trademarked the name Borderworlds, suggesting that Borderlands will expand into a series - as if you ever believed otherwise.
Even Take-Two top brass Strauss Zelnick and Ben Feder referred to the RPG shooter as a "key franchise" during an earnings call last night (listened to by VG247).
The Borderworlds trademark (unearthed, as always, by superannuation) protects the name but offers no further information.
Perhaps there will be different worlds to travel to in the game, and maybe there are spaceships.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment
