Great game = Console purchase

Was just wondering if anyone else ever soley bought a console based on one game? I know there will be a ton of The Show responses, but I was feeling a bit nostalgic so I thought I would throw my history out there.

Sega Genesis: Mortal Kombat
N64: Mario 64
PS2: Grand Theft Auto III
360: NHL 08

My Atari 7600 was an xmas present from my grandparents and my NES was a present from my parents, so I can't count those. Also, when I bought my Dreamcast I just bought it on launch day because I knew I would like it...The 4 games above solely made me purchase a console.

What about everyone else?

Dreamcast=NFL 2k.
PS2 = NCAA Football.
Super NES = Super Tecmo Bowl & NHL Hockey

Always had to upgrade the football game I was playing.

Nope.

I am the guy who buys every console on day 1. I then assess down the road whether it is any good compared to its peers. I sell it when I don't think it is worthy.

I bought a NES for Tecmo Super Bowl and an XBox for Halo.

I got a Nintendo, Super Nintendo and Playstation as Christmas presents, so I won't include those.

N64 = GoldenEye
Playstation 2 = GTA II, then sold it, then re-bought it for The Show 06
XBox = Halo 2
GameCube = Animal Crossing (for the wifey)
360 = Ummm, does the hype machine count as a game? Either way, a year later it is gone.
PS3 = The Show 07
Wii = Wii Sports

nope.. i'm usually late to the game when it comes to console purchases... wait out the bugs and wait until games come out that can actually use the upgraded hardware.

I've bought two consoles recently specifically for one game:

PS3: MLB 08 The Show
Wii: Wii Fit

I've lost 16 pounds so far with Wii Fit so that was worth the price. No weight loss playing The Show but I don't regret that purchase either.

I think the game that has sold the most consoles HAS to be NFL2K and the Dreamcast. That was the first real next-gen game that left people breathless. I will never forget the first time my buddy and I put that game in. It was unforgettable. I remember being in line at midnight and most of the guys salivating at that game.

I also bought a PS3 just for The Show. I don't regret that in any way, but it wasn't quite the same experience as that NFL2K game.

I bought an XBOX for what nba 2k was out for it at that time too.
the first madden-ps2, sold it and didn't have one for awhile and bought it again for God of War, sold it then got it again for God of war 2. haha. And i'll buy a ps3 for God of War 3

I try to convince myself that I shouldn't buy a system for one game, and most the time, that's true. There are 2 systems I've basically bought a game for though, and here's a list of what those games would have been for other systems I own(ed):

NES: Have to say Mario/Duck Hunt.
SNES: Super Mario Kart
N64: The Legend of Zelda: OoT (this is one of them, and although I got the 64 soon after it's own release, the promise of 3D Zelda was the driving factor.
PSX: Final Fantasy VII (this is the other. Do I really need to explain? )
PS2:FFX, Metal Gear Solid II and III (again, future promise)
PS3: MLB '07 the Show (but 08 is better ), MGS4, and FFXIII (future)

SNES = Super Mario World

Genesis = Sonic the Hedgehog
SegaCD = Sonic the Hedgehog

3DO = Need For Speed

Sega Saturn = Panzer Dragoon

PS1 = Twisted Metal

Nintendo 64 = GoldenEye

Dreamcast = NFL 2k (totally blew out Madden 2001 on the PS1)

PS2 = Madden 2002 and SSX 1

Cube = Rouge Squadron 3

XBox = Halo 1

360 = (you might laugh) Kameo

PS3 = The Show 07

Wii = Wii Sports
