SNES=Final Fantasy 3(Final Fantasy 6 in Japan)

I already had a Genesis, but FF3 was a revolutionary RPG in terms of story and character development, so it was a must.


XBOX= Knights of the Old Republic

Again, I already had a PS2, but here was a Western RPG, with a sci-fi theme-Star Wars even, that had received lavish praise for its story, and had won several GOTY awards. I couldn't pass it up.

I thought there might be an RPG that might "make" me have to get a PS3, but with Star Ocean, and FF13 coming out for the 360 that might not happen now.

I generally buy consoles for NO games. When I bought my PS2, XBOX, and XBOX 360 I hadn't really looked at any games yet, nor was I interested in anything in particular. I just love to game, so I went out and got the systems that I knew I'd like.

Although, when I got Guitar Hero II for Christmas a few years ago - everyone we played it with went out and bought a PS2 and GHII after that.

The only console I ever bought just because of a game was the original NES for Super Mario Brothers.

I bought the SNES out of brand loyalty and PS1 because it seemed like Nintendo had lost its way. The PS2 was bought out of brand loyalty. I only went with the 360 because of everyone raving about how much better the hardware is....Boy I bet most people regret that rationale for buying it now!

I've bought two consoles recently specifically for one game:

PS3: MLB 08 The Show
Wii: Wii Fit

I've lost 16 pounds so far with Wii Fit so that was worth the price. No weight loss playing The Show but I don't regret that purchase either.

Is this for real cause I wouldn't mind losing a few pounds myself.

XBOX - Halo
N64 - Mario 64/GoldenEye

I probably would've bought these console's anyways but these games just pushed me to go ahead take the plunge. Though if Blu Ray had lost out I may not have bought a PS3. Despite going through 5 360's I probably would've stuck with the xbox if blu ray had been a bust.

I did own most of the other major consoles like PS1, SNES, Genesis, and NES.. but my parents were the ones throwing down the cash for those.

I'm surprised more people didn't buy 360/PS3 for GTA IV. My guess is most who posted had already bought either of those two systems. Had it not been for NHL back in September last year I'm sure I would have caved when GTA hit a few months ago.

yeah Kane, GTA 4 really did not sell many systems(at least so far). The NPD's for April and May were similar to the months before GTA 4 came out.

Yeah, if I hadn't already owned a ps3/360 I probably would've have made the plunge for GTA. But there were so many great games before GTA 4 came out I don't know if I would've bought a system for GTA. You know what I mean... If I wasn't the kind of person who would've already bought a system for Gears, BioShock, COD4, Assasin's Creed, NHL 08, The Show, etc., I don't know if GTA would have been the game to put me over the edge.
