Looking to try RPG and FPS games

OK, I've decided it's high-time I diversify my gaming library. Up to this point I've played mostly sports (if I'm posting here, that's obvious), action and platformer games.

I've been thinking of adding in some RPG and FPS games to my library, but really don't know where to start. I have ZERO skill in these genres, so I'll need recommendations that won't stifle me with insane difficulty.

I have a 360, PSP and DS, so I'm open to recommendations for all of those systems.

So, feel free to list away with what RPG and FPS games I should start with.

    Thanks!

Oh, and while I do have a 360, I don't play online, so the FPS games should be ones with a decent single-player campaign.

I'd go with Oblivion and lower the difficulty and COD4 playing on the lowest difficulty. Stay in the campaign mode at first though, you might hate the game if you go on live with it. Some people are pretty good and extremely rude.

Both Oblivion and Mass Effect are offline only games. Oblivion has a slider to set the difficulty and Mass Effect has an easy mode. I personally would rent COD4 if you were to play that game, the offline single player is rather short, and while it is a great game I can't see spending the money to get it if you are not playing online.

For RPGs I'd say Jeanne D'Arc and Disgaea Afternoon of Darkness for PSP (I don't have a PSP but I heard Jeanne D'Arc is really easy and Disgaea is much the same as it's PS2 counterpart) and Mass Effect and Lost Odyessy for the 360. Maybe try out the Eternal Sonata and Blue Dragon demos on the 360 too. I'd reccomend against Tales of Vesperia because that one is really difficult. Spectral Force 3 and EnChant Arms are of poor quality so stay away from those too.

FPS like others said CoD 4 and I'd also say give PDZ a shot because that one is pretty easy too. I'd also reccomend Hitman: Bloodmoney, the thing with that is that it's entirely optional to even shoot anyone but if you do you can play it in first or 3rd person.

Would Marvel: Ultimate Alliance count as an RPG? I know it's not a true RPG, more action, but doesn't it have RPG elements?

Yes it does. It counts as an action RPG. If you want one of those though I'd say go with either of the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance games on Xbox if you have your 360 online. They're decently easy and if worse comes to worse you can cheat. You can cheat in Marvel UA too but the Baldur's Gate games are much more RPG. Besides a flaming sword of ice is awesome.

I didn't think to check other BC games...
Bard's Tale, stay away from that one, heard that was overly difficult.
Darkwatch was a pretty good horror/westren themed FPS,I remember it not being very hard.
                          Fable of course.
Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire are pretty accessible.
