Metroidvania is a prefect word for it. I missed that as well in AC. It's amazing what you can do on the linear level when you just add a new gadget or spell.

Plus, AA's Scarecrow and Riddler were both a lot more menacing, IMO.

        The Sarecrow stuff was AWESOME.

I said this in the AC thread too, but like you guys, I believe that AA was the slightly better game as well. The story was definitely more focused, and Arkham Aslyum had such an awesome, almost claustrophobic feel to it. I don't think the open world of AC necessarily took anything away from the experience, but outside of being able to "fly", I don't think it added anything either. I feel they went open world just because they could, not because they needed to. Not every game needs to be open world to be better.

All that said, AC definitely improved on the fighting and mechanics, and I'm actually enjoying the game quite a bit more on my second playthrough. Like I said, it's just missing a bit of the focus of the first, and a lot of that is due to the more metrovania style that AA had.

I don't see them ditching the freedom for the next entry, but hopefully they can find a way to... tighten things up a bit.

If they can stay open world, yet get back to AA's style of stealth and Metrovania game play I will be very happy.

Lol, I have no clue how they would do it so it doesn't suck, or seem out of place, but I do agree that being able to drive the bat mobile or bat wing would be awesome.

How? The double RR. Rocksteady + Rockstar

Can you imagine a Batman (GTA style) game... you would have the deep story plus random encounters in Gotham. Drive the bike, batmobile or fly around... wow... if this ever happened.

                  Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum

I'm surprised there haven't been any games that have really tried doing the "open world" but rather than doing a driving/shoot "action adventure" game, try to do a stealth or platformer/puzzle games.

A Rocksteady and R* collaboration would be a holy union of gaming.

Anybody else play the Batman Begins game? They had "driving" segments with The Tumbler which was basically a five minute ride with the core gameplay of Burnout.

I actually found the Riddler aspect to be way to much, especially in AC. I'd rather have them do around 100 (or even as low as 50) of them, but make them incredibly clever and strategic.

The only problem I found with the Riddler in AC was:

Also, DLC on the next game needs to step it up a level or two. The alt costumes are fun, but if that's the best/primary DLC for the next game then I don't see the point in having DLC.

That and the fact that the alt costumes weren't even shown in all the cutscenes, which for me, ruined any chance of me ever using them.

Same thing here for me, I thought they were nice additions, but were not put in well enough since they weren't in cut scenes. I don't know why they have those bad quality cut scenes anyway.
