    Valkyria Chronicles

If you haven't checked this game out I would recommend you do. After reading the reviews and watching vids I downloaded the demo and it was pretty darn fun. PS3 BTW.

I rented from Blockbuster, and bought it within 2 days of the rental. I made the mistake of worrying about the game being too easy based on the demo. So very, very wrong. Every mission after the first 2 or 3 has had me planning out what I was going to do well in advance, and even then things didn't always go as planned. I've only actually failed a mission 3 times (and two of those were on one pain-in-the-butt stealth/escort mission)

I really like how the game puts a name and personality to your supporting team in this game with the potentials. More than any other war-type strategy game, I find myself going out of my way to rescue them when they fall. It's almost the same system as FF Tactics, where when their HP drop to 0 it's three turns before they're gone - permanently. You have to bring one of your other soldiers to where they fell, at which point a medic automatically evacuates them. From what I read, the enemy can end a fallen soldier immediately if they get there first, but fortunately the game's AI isn't that draconian and doesn't actively seek out your casualties. And boy, does it ever rub it in on you if they DO really die.

I was about to create a thread for Valkyria Chronicles. Awesome game that might not be for everyone, but if you're into SRPGs, this is a definite must.

I was able to cruise through most of the early missions, but later on you do have to carefully consider your strategy.

I loved the demo but hadn't heard much buzz about the game. I guess this game is really flying under the radar but from the impressions so far it sounds like a game I'll be purchasing soon. I especially like that you really have to take some time and use a good strategy to get through this game.

              This game sounds very interesting.
So there's no magic right? Just guns? I hope that's the case anyway.

One could almost compare the use of Ragnaid to "healing magic", but in the way the game presents it as a Gallian resource, it's believable enough. Rifles, Machine guns, sniper rifles, tanks, and (episode 13 spoiler - that's how far I am so far and there's plenty that can be spoiled by now):

                Spoiler

If you're on the fence I would say try the demo first - the game has a few nuances that third person shooter guys probably aren't going to like. Time stopping while you aim your shot, for one. Enemies can shoot at you (and you at them) when you're moving or just standing still (which you should NEVER do, especially not in the line of fire!). But once you raise your gun everything stops, until you're done shooting (at which point the targeted enemy will immediately counterattack if possible from where they're standing.

i fell in love with the game after trying out the demo. i love the art direction, music, characters, story, gameplay...everything really lol, but especially the characters and their different personalities. like you, i go out of my way to help out the characters, especially some of my favorites (Alicia, Rosie, Marina, etc).

the game gets tricky and hard really quick. I found this out the hard way If you don't think ahead in some of the battles, things can get ugly pretty fast. chapter 7 comes to mind.

it's really a shame that this game hasn't been promoted much. too many popular games coming out now, i guess.

It took me my second try to get through that chapter 7 battle because my first layout was obviously flawed from the start. I was certainly taken by surprise towards the end of the battle, but I managed to not let anyone permanently die thanks to good old Karl .

btw, Karl has saved my skin on more than one occasion. he's the man!

I'm glad you guys are enjoying VC. I made a post about this game a few weeks ago and I was kind of disappointed by the lack of interest in the game.

                        http://www.operationsports.com/forum...hronicles.html

I think SEGA just chose a bad time to release the game. There are just too many great games out right now. This is a great game also. But, I'll be honest as a strategy RPG lover. It's king of hard for that genre to compete. So there is not going to be as much money put into advertisement. It's the kind of game that gets publicity from people who have played it telling others about it.

I'm still playing VC. There is a a lot of depth to this game. Some levels have enemy aces that if you find and kill them you get a special weapon. There are special characters that can only be unlocked if you fulfill certain criteria. And elite classes are awesome. If you guys think mission 7 was tough, just wait....

One question - Is there a "hard" level for skirmishes? Seems odd that I can only select from easy or normal, plus the first skirmish (which was basically the demo level) doesn't have an enemy tank like the demo had...

I've gotten an A on it and aside from the money and XP (as well as one other thing I won't discuss for plot purposes), it didn't show any signs of having a more difficult level.
