Overrated: Madden 09, NBA 2K9
*Underrated: APF 2K8, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds, NBA LIVE 09, Warhawk, Far Cry 2, MK vs. DC Universe

*Underrated not necessarily meaning the actual score that a game received, but the overall love that is shown to a particular title. By how many people are talking about it, playing it regularly online, etc.

Underrated: Saints Row series, High Heat baseball series

Overrated:
Gears of War 1 & 2 and Halo 3.

Underrated:
Unreal Tournament 3 and CHoops2k8.

That's hard to say. I couldn't say what the most overrated is, but I could list some games that I think belong at the top of the list.

The Halo Series, Gears of War (which I loved, but it seems to me that people just make it out to be way better than it really is), the Madden series, and the last few NHL games (NHL 08 and 09 sports game of the year?)

Underrated: Well NHL 2k8 is the greatest hockey game of all time, but because people couldn't figure out the controls, and because NHL 2008 looked prettier, it was shoved to the back and given "meh" reviews.

I'd also say Morrowind. It is perhaps one of the greatest games of all time; perhaps the greatest game of all time. While it's fairly popular, I don't think it gets enough respect. It's too bad they went and ruined the series with Oblivion.

Over-rated:
Halo series- I dont get the Hype, It is a great game but the Campaign is ho-hum
Far Cry 2- Omnipresent and ultra aggressive AI killed this game for me
Command and Conquer this Generation- I loved the originals...
COD: World at War: Been there, done that feeling throughout the game.

Under-rated:

Elder Scrolls Oblivion- Still playing it, It has stood the test of time this generation...
Mercenaries 2- Lots of hate for this game but it was still fun as hell to blow everything up
Sim City 4- God I love this game. The User Community has made this game great.
Civilization 4(PC)- What can i Say, This game owns my soul

Far Cry 2 was the perfect review game. The first 3 hours or so are great and then you start to notice every single annoying flaw. But since reviewers don't play games past 2-3 hours any more...

Overrated:

GTA 4-It was fun and everything, but aside from the graphics technology, there was nothing remotely new or revolutionary like there was made out to be

Halo 2/3-Do I have to say anything?

Every EA football game

Underrated:

Don't really have any for this gen. I've cut down my purchases a lot and only bought major releases. Bioshock, Mass Effect, COD4, GOW, Forza 2, and Fallout 3 were great, Halo 3 and GTA 4 were somewhat disappointing, and Saint's Row and Force Unleashed were what I expected from a free game (TRU, not downloading).

outlaw golf (so fun to me)
Splinter cell 1 (way better than all sequels and top 4 single player experience of al ltime)
K-1 - there were a couple that were great imo

far cry 1 for xbox (amazing single player)
virtua stirker for dreamcast
Run and Gun 2 (arcade - amazing bball)

For this gen, Valkyria Chronicles is easily my favorite underrated game. Hot Shots Golf:OOB is a close 2nd, only because I think it was a bit more known.

Overrated is tougher...Madden (take your pick on year) I suppose.

I can't even think of an all-time pair - It's hard to think about what people thought of older games when they came out.

Great List dude, the first Splinter Cell was amazing. The single player was just great and multiplayer (I only played Cinema) was one of my most played online games of all time.

Max Payne? Oh man, I would get the cheat for unlimted "Slo - Mo" and just have great fun running around looking badass killing people. It was just awesome to clear a room out. Great call.



That brings me to one more from my PC days. Anyone remeber the first Soldier of Fortune? Man killing people in that game was just straight up fun. I played that game a ton.
