    Red Dead Redemption

    CVG

Rockstar Games has lifted the lid on Red Dead Redemption, due this autumn on 360 and PS3.

    Here's the release:

Developed by Rockstar San Diego, as a follow up to the 2004 hit game, Red Dead Revolver, Red Dead Redemption is a Western epic, set at the turn of the 20th century when the lawless and chaotic badlands began to give way to the expanding reach of government and the spread of the Industrial Age. The story of former outlaw, John Marston, Red Dead Redemption takes players on a great adventure across the American frontier.

"The team at San Diego have massively exceeded our expectations with the sheer depth of experiences in Red Dead Redemption," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "The seamless combination of breathtaking beauty and intense action, all woven together with strong plotlines in a massive vibrant, rural environment is mind-blowing. We think this game helps to push the limits of what an open-world gaming experience can be."

Utilizing Rockstar's proprietary Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE), Red Dead Redemption features an open-world environment for players to explore, including frontier towns, rolling prairies teeming with wildlife, and perilous mountain passes - each packed with an endless flow of varied distractions.

Along the way, players will experience the heat of gunfights and battles, meet a host of unique characters, struggle against the harshness of one of the world's last remaining wildernesses, and ultimately pick their own precarious path through an epic story about the death of the Wild West and the gunslingers that inhabited it.

I'll give it a shot. I'll probably rent the first one to get the story.

The first RDR came out in 2004 after being worked on since 2002. Gun came out in 2005. Just saying.

1st day buy for me, loved the first. We had a blast doing the fast draw multiplayer.

I might check this out...I never played the first title.

I'm still waiting on a sequel to Bully.

                    ABOUT FREAKING TIME!

I bought a PS2 for a game that was supposed to be a release title "Gunfighter", but it never came to fruition.

I've been crying for a GTA or Fable type western for years. I can't wait to buy this game. This is a must own for me.

I love western games and was hoping we would see one soon as I liked both GUN and Red Dead Revolver. I also hope that they include multiplayer as online gun fights would be awesome.

                        Yeah, that's a must.
I had a blast playing with some buddies online with GTAIV.

Is it too much to hope for the ability to drag someone around town by horse?
Or slap around a bartender ala Ike Clanton from Tombstone "I don't take no lip from no bartender neither".

Man, I am stoked for this game. I'm glad they decided to wait this long to reveal any details. If I had known this game was in the works 2 years ago, I would have gone crazy. 9 months is a long way off, but it's more bearable than 24 months.

                            Re: Red Dead Redemption

It looks like Game Informer was shown this game last week.
I'm hoping that we hear some news on this soon. I'm dying to see this game in action.

                            http://www.psxextreme.com/feature/404.html

WHY don't we have "AAA" Western-themed games?

Okay, so it seems Rockstar didn't secretly bring Grand Theft Auto V to Game Informer; it's far more likely that it's the impending Red Dead Redemption, the sequel to Red Dead Revolver. Now, RDR was a pretty good game but I really want something special with Redemption. I've always wondered why a developer hasn't taken the Wild West premise and given us a truly memorable experience. I mean, "Western" has an entire effing genre in the movie world and these days, with the gap between film and games shrinking every day, the Western contrast becomes more obvious. Really, it almost seems as if somewhere, someone said, "hey, gamers don't care about the Wild West. They just want sci-fi shooters." ...who said? When did that poll run? Did I miss the survey? Correct me if I'm wrong, but there are quite a lot of Western fans out there, and who wouldn't want to step into the shoes of Dirty Harry? Yeah, you can't have the crazy fantastical weapons you might find in the futuristic shooters, but I can live with that. All I want is a really cool Western-oriented shooter and Red Dead Redemption could be it. Here's hoping.
