Just wondering for anyone who's a bit further into the game, have you guys reached any point yet where the game gets really hard?

Kind of. I've reached a few missions that have given me trouble in Mexico.

The one where you have to protect the train is pretty tough. There's lots of enemies and it's all on horseback. And I suck at killing on horseback. Like, really bad.

Well my initial impression is negative.

I was walking to the docs place,someone randomly started shooting at me for no reason at all,I shot him in the head and it was game over because I broke the law.

anyone else think this game feels a lot less like GTA than you were expecting? I was fully expecting Grand Theft Horse, but I've gotta say, after a number of hours the similarities to GTA are largely superficial... some mission structure, the hud, etc...

idk, but to me GTA is all about causing havoc and driving around the city killing cops and seeing how long you can stay alive. The SP has always been secondary to just the fun you can have in an open world. And these games are just so different in that regard. Wandering around the wilderness in RDR seems like a totally different and awesome experience to me

for months leading up to the release, nearly all the previous harped on the fact that this was basically GTAV, and now that i've finally got some hours under my belt, I just feel like they were way off. Like they didn't get the full feel for the game, because to me it is its whole own experience

Getting chased by the law for a stupid reason. These guys come running through the MacFarlane ranch on horseback shooting their guns in the air, when 2 of them start firing on me. So I shoot back and apparently self defense is a crime WTF?
So I make a run for it and I'm going full speed on horseback. I'm not really paying attention and run off a cliff in Pike's Basin, killing me and the horse upon impact.
I had a good laugh.

I agree. It's definitely a GTA relative, but it's not GTA. I haven't had this feeling with a GTA game since GTA III.

This game has some Oblivion\Fallout 3 flavor as well. It's amazing so far. I've only got abougt 5 hours in but I'm overwhelmed at this point.

I still haven't figured out the first treasure map.

I just figured out how to read a treasure map.

Roman numeral I is usually the general location. For example, Hang Mans Rock. The following Roman numerals start to pinpoint the exact location. If you look closely at the second one, you'll notice the Hanging tree and behind it is some rocks. X marks the spot where the treasure is between the rocks behind the tree. You will see a pile of rubble where the treasure is.

I wish the melee combat was better, but I expected it to be like it is. I was a little disappointed that you couldn't skin animals and the animation when you do skin an animal... I wish it was different and actaully showed you doing it.

Yeah apparently. Probably more like $30 to $35 after fees and all that, but still quite a bit.

I kind of want to use a mule as my primary horse, just because it makes me laugh.
