OS4L won its first two feuds on PSN tonight as BlueNGold and I put up two easy wins. This is a pretty cool feature as the Social Club shows your past history with crews you have feuded with in the past.
In other news, my first impressive of the multiplayer is its different in many ways from other shooters. The focus on run and gun, fast-paced style hasn't been done like this before. There is cover and it does help, but this game is a fast paced twitch shooter at its core. The third-person dynamic separates itself from other TPS (Third-Person Shooters) and even FPS games because of the dynamite animation system. They make the gunplay and movement achieve something I haven't seen in a shooter to-date. Trust me it looks good. The animations make it hard to post up on corners that you could in a FPS since the gun points up into the air. The controls feel tight once you boost the sensitivity and acceleration a bit. Also, lots of control schemes and controller customization, but the main one is still my favorite. For those Ps3 players, L2 and R2 shooting can be changed to R1 L1. I recommend it. Free-aim plays really well in multiplayer, as I said before,. It offers a competitive balance that is slightly lost in soft-like. You know its your skill getting the kill, not a snap mechanic.
Finally (this needed its own paragraph), bullet dodge has it amazing moments in this game. My favorite so far is, during a gang war match, two guys had me pinned in a building with stairs access. Instead off pacing them head-on, I bullet dodged out of the nearest window, which I did on a whim mind you, and shot both guys as they were going up the stairs. Two things here: one, I actually screwed up my jump and bounced off part of the window and screwed up my angle. (BTW The reaction physics on your characters body during a bullet dodge is pretty awesome.) And two, I honestly didn't think I could jump out that window in the first place. I kind of did it on a whim, but boy did it pay off.
My initial impressions are pretty glowing of the multiplayer. My biggest issue is spawn points, which have a habit of being too close to the action, especially on smaller maps. There are some disconnect issues every now and then and some weird graphical death glitches to dead bodies. However, not really game breaking. Also, load times to get into a match can range from 20sec to a minute. Guns seem to be pretty balanced. The mini-SMGS and Pistols are good point blank, but horrible at distance. SMGS, LMGS, Assault Rifles, and Rifles are good at distance, with some being good at both. The Shotguns have a little more range (which is more realistic anyway) than in most games, but damage at distance is toned down to balance it out. All the guns have lots of stats and customization, so there are some decisions on what to use. I really like the weight system in the loadout screen too. Basically, your player can is stuck into light, medium, heavy, or overweight, depending on how much crap you are carrying. The slower you are, the faster you can move, rebuild stamina, and regenerate health. Yes, multiplayer has regenerative health, but it youahve to be out of the action awhile for it to build back up. You can also get painkillers off corpses if you loot them.
My advice is to try it and see what you think.
