Eurogamer Review - 7

There's no question that Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time is a quality platformer, complete with a superb combat system, decent puzzles, fun weapons, pretty visuals and plenty of variation. If you've never played a R&C game before, you should, and this is a great place to start. If you're a fan who just wants more of the same, you won't be disappointed.

But I've been playing R&C games for years now, and I was hoping for something extra. That doesn't mean radical change - goodness knows no one wants Ratchet to "go dark" or start running round sandbox environments. I still want a meat feast pizza, I just want it to have a stuffed crust. And maybe some dips. Or in other words, a proper selection of exciting new weapons, original puzzles and a bit of innovation. It's not that A Crack in Time is all fur coat and no knickers. The problem is, it's all fur coat and the same knickers it's been wearing for seven years. Time for a change.

Re: Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time (PS3)

Kotaku Review

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time retains a lot of what was good about the previous games. But it also continues one of the best traditions of its developers — to compress past accomplishments, quickly give players a lot of the old stuff in the game's early going and then try new things. Earlier games' experiments with dialogue systems and multiplayer didn't thrill me. But, the new game's more dynamic physical movement (hooray for hoverboots), more interesting mission flow, amazing graphics and smart system of relatively easy main missions that branch off to more challenging moon challenges, are good innovations.

The Ratchet gameplay is improved. The Clank gameplay is a revelation. Two years ago, Ratchet & Clank Future showed how good Insomniac could make this series look on PS3. A year ago, Ratchet & Clank: A Quest For Booty showed that Insomniac was still prepared to innovate with gameplay. A Crack In time, the space case notwithstanding, finally shows the series leaping forward.
Destructoid Review - 9

For fans of the series, picking up A Crack in Time was never a question. You've likely already pre-order the game. If you've for some reason found that Ratchet & Clank isn't your cup of tea, it's likely you're suffering from an illness, but take note that A Crack in Time is similar enough that it probably won't change your mind. For those of you who've never embarked on an adventure with the furry-faced hero and his brainy metal friend, you've got a lot of catching up to do, but it'll be worth it -- Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time is easily one of the best in the series.
G4 Review - 5/5

The Pros
Exceptional controls that suck you in
Wonderful writing and story
Platforming to dream about

The Cons
Space Battles become redundant
Could be more top challenge platforming
Bolt economy a little too favorable

Videogamer Review - 8

Fans of Ratchet and Clank will find A Crack in Time to be more of the same, with a few twists here and there. It's a fine end to the current storyline and packs in loads of content that will see you playing well beyond the closing credits. The lack of fresh ideas, especially during Ratchet's sections, will be seen by many as a negative, but there are so few games that nail the action platforming genre that it's easily forgivable. If you're looking for a fun, imaginative, family friendly PS3 game, A Crack in Time fits the bill perfectly.
CVG Review - 8

These lush visuals are representative of A Crack in Time's polish - this is a solid game with solid platforming, fun gunplay and well thought-out puzzle design, with bags of character.

But it suffers, we think, mainly from the progression that games have made over the past two years. Super Mario Galaxy did amazing things with gravity and epic level design, while games like Uncharted 2 have raised the bar with in-game set-pieces that literally blow your mind. A Crack in Time is a quality adventure, just not up there with the top-tier of today.

I played it for about an hour last night. If you like Ratchet games, you will like this. Even if you have not played any of the PS3 games, during the intro Captain Qwark gives a somewhat true recap of the events of TOD and Quest for Booty. I say somewhat true because of course Qwark spins it to make himself look good.

The gameplay seems the same, except you do not have Clank helping you this time around. The game looks beautiful. I think the first one is still one of the best looking PS3 games, and this one takes it to another level. Very impressive.

I look forward to playing some more tonight. Again, if you are a fan of the other games then you will have no problem jumping right into this.

FYI, I don't think you could choose difficulty in TOD until after you completed the game. In this game there are 3 difficulty levels (easy, normal, hard). Looking at the trophies there seems to be another level after hard, which I guess you unlock once you beat it on hard. I am starting off on hard since I have played most of the other games, and it hasn't been too challenging so far. Then again, I have only played basically one stage.

I can't play the game until after Christmas but a buddy of mine got it yesterday and he was telling me about it. He said that you don't get your health restored when you visit the weapons dealer anymore, is that true? That will definitely increase the difficulty some.
