The back of a Halo Reach shirt.

It's from the books. Spartans are never listed as KIA in order to keep the morale of the UNSC soldiers and civilians up.

So this being a squad-based shooter was pretty much shot down on GTTV tonight. Joe Staten said a good assumption would be a story about many spartans, a squad of spartans, but without the squad-based combat.

hmm interesting. It seemed to make perfect sense for this to be squad based.

I was looking forward to a squad-based Halo game.

            Re: Halo: Reach

            From G4 Interview

Where Reach will be a full three-year cycle, it's got all-new tech, akin to the change from Halo 2 to Halo 3, not like ODST, which is just built on top of the Halo 3 foundation.
Reach is going to be a tough project for us to wrap just because the scope is really big -- it's up there. It'll probably be our biggest game ever just in terms of the amount of people working on it and the expectations for it. I mean, it's a big deal for us.

Also, about the squad-based stuff, it definitely sounds like you will always have other Spartans with you, but they will have their own AI instead of you ordering them around.

The sounds good, and will make for some interesting gameplay. Lets just hope your AI teammates don't suck (The Arbiter in Halo 3).

Possible off-screen images and info has been leaked.

                BR

it is a one shot battle rifle with 12 rounds, pretty powerful and effective long range.

                Perks

This is what the HUD looks like. In the bottom left, you can see your squadmates health and names.

Right above the radar shows what perks you are carrying. When I played there were 3 perks-sprinting, cloaking, and halogram.

The sprinting makes you run when you hold LB,

cloaking makes you invisible (when you cloak your radar jams and you can't really hear anything around you).

The hologram creates a hologram of yourself, so enemies will shoot at both.

                  Re: Halo: Reach

Interesting....if these are real then we know its going to be a squad based shooter and with perks and whatever else, its going to be different than Halo 3 in terms of multiplayer gameplay.

The last screen, I assume is the spartan laser, looks awesome. The BR looks pretty cool and I think a 12 round single shot would work well.

What is that weapon in the second to last screen? Looks like a needler combined with a carbine.

Also if you look at the HUD, it appears to be a shield and health system like Halo 1 and ODST.

                        Re: Halo: Reach

Some comments from Bungie's Brian Jarrad

Reach offers a lot of creative opportunities and a fresh approach to a universe we are all still very fond of. We hope you'll share our excitement as you start to learn and see more.
Did you know that today the majority of people who work at Bungie have only shipped one, or zero, Halo games? (We had approx. 60 full time employees at the end of Halo 2, today we're upwards of 130). While some people have been working on Halo for a decade (many of whom make up the core of the Reach team) many more were inspired to come work for Bungie because of Halo and their desire to participate in the Universe.
Regarding spoilers, I wouldn't worry too much. If you don't want to know what the game looks like, sounds like, what the primary characters look like or a confirmation that the Covenant are going to cause serious issues on the planet, you may want to avoid it. We'll be talking a lot more about multiplayer soon as we creep towards the Beta. For the most part, I'd expect the PR to follow the same mold as Halo 3 - initial glimpse of the bigger picture and fictional context and characters, then lots of focus on Multiplayer, then a slice of campaign, then it's on sale. We are always conscious of holding back spoilers (though in the case of leaks, we can't control it and it breaks our hearts and angers us as much as you).
The opening cinematic footage being debuted at the VGAs is the opening salvo in what will amount to slowly building PR and Marketing assault leading up to release next year. Expectations are off the charts, it's a big game. It should be a wild ride between now and then.

                          Geoff Keighley:

At the VGAs, we actually go down on to the Planet Reach and see this game for the first time. It’s all going to be in-game stuff. This is not CG. This is not live-action like all the kids on twitter are speculating. You will get a first glimpse at the world of Reach, which is phenomenal. I think it’s going to be the biggest game of next year by far. Folks love ODST and thought it was great but when people see the huge leap forward Bungie is taking with Reach, I don’t know if you seen it yet, but everyone that I talked to that’s been on the team and seen it is incredibly excited about that game.

Trailer will be about two and a half minutes long.

I'm excited for the trailer on Saturday and then hopefully more previews will follow soon after to start building the hype train, along with a date for the beta.

Keighley has quite the "job" btw.

wow that's some high praise from Mr. Keighley. I usually don't care much for these premier trailers but that talk has got me excited to see what it looks like.

It looks like one of the weapons out of Halo 2-3 Concept art. It shot out spikes like a needler BUT they were much bigger and stronger than the needle shards. From what I read on Bungie.net from devs and looking at concept art it may be one of 2 new alien weapons that did not make the final build for Halo 2-3.

The first being a Needler based Mortar/Rocket Launcher. It shot out one large Needle Crystal that explodes. Mainly a Anti Vehicle type weapon. It sticks in it the detonate into more Needle Crystals. It can also be used against Infrantry but supposely is hard to aim and does damage splash similiar to a Brute Spike grenade.

The second being a Super Needler Combine. It shoots like the regular Combine being as it has zoom capability but shoots out 3 Needle Shards similiar to the battle rifle.

There have been 2 maps that have been getting talked about alot now and may be new muliplayer Maps. Devs have came into this thread about them saying they will try to incorperate it into a Multiplayer/Campaign based maps.

The first one is rumors of an Forerunner based Muliplayer lvl that has setinals repairing objects that actually effect the battle field. Like there may be a place that will get repaired by the setinals that you can get to later in the match. Also damage you do to the lvl will be repaired by them also. Sounds Interesting.

The second has you on the Planet Reach in the Shield base(Book readers know what I am talking about) and it has Alien Cruisers bombarding the base, eventially the shield gives in and destroys everything including you and ends the match. Seems to be pretty cool idea maybe for Campaign or CTF based gametypes.

The ideas above are strickly off of Concept Art images I have seen and other sources of info I have found. NONE OF IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED!

                                Just to share.
