Re: Left 4 Dead 2 (360/PC)
Left 4 Dead 2 Getting Massive Ad Campaign
Valve's Left 4 Dead 2 won't be getting lost between this holiday's big releases. Publisher Electronic Arts will see to that.
The company announced today a massive advertising campaign that will make sure gamers everywhere will be talking about the title this November.
"We'll be supporting Left 4 Dead 2's launch with a $25 million campaign," said Doug Lombardi, Valve's vice-president of Marketing. "Left 4 Dead 2 has already set the record for greatest number of pre-orders in our company's history, and we're still over a month out from shipping."
Valve president Gabe Newell claimed the sequel will sell even faster than its other popular shooter, Half Life.
"Based on the strength of pre-orders, Left 4 Dead 2 will be the fastest-selling product in Valve's history," he said. "Left 4 Dead 2 has consistently run at 300% of Left 4 Dead's numbers."Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Left 4 Dead 2 (360/PC)
Scavenge Mode: Hands-On
The idea here is for people to get a Versus-style experience in a smaller chunk of time, since most who've tried Versus know a full match can last a while. It's the same philosophy that went into creating the Crash Course downloadable content for the original Left 4 Dead, which was just recently made available to the public. Yet with Scavenge mode, it's not just a campaign with fewer maps, it's a different mechanic. The focal point of each match is a generator. The goal of the survivors is to snag as many fuel canisters, visible through walls and highlighted in white, as possible from around the map and dump them into the generator. Each of the 16 total fuel pickups added put 20 more seconds on a clock that starts at 1 minute, 20 seconds. The catch is in addition to common zombies running around, the player-controlled boss infected are trying to choke, slash, and squish you to death. Does your team try and run as quickly as possible to grab and return cans, or do you stick together and make sure every return is a success? Is that even possible with boomers puking all over everything?
The game lasts six rounds, and after each the survivor team's score is posted. The three are added for each side at the end, and the winner is the one with the highest number. Then, rock music plays. Four people cheer, and four scurry away in shame.
The map I played on was set in a motel parking lot as part of the Dark Carnival campaign. Things heated up around the drained swimming pool, as that's where the generator sat and where the survivors started out. An ammo pile sat poolside next to weapon pickups, and from there it was out beyond a wall circling the pool into the deadly maze of abandoned cars on the lot. A few gas canisters were nearby, some up in bathrooms on the second storey of the motel, others in nearby buildings, and a few a way off up on billboards and near a highway overpass. Nobody I was playing with managed to get all the canisters, but there were some memorable moments. In one instance when a survivor was just about to finish dumping fuel into the generator a jockey flung itself at his head and whirled him away, guiding him to his death as the remaining infected helped put him down permanently.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Left 4 Dead 2 (360/PC)
1UP
But, as we wrap up our playtime, David Ellis notices a mysterious option in the menu as we wait for a new match to start: "Realism mode." I ask Faliszek, and he coyly comments, "that's a special modifier that we forgot to hide for this demo." We then ask Valve VP of Marketing Doug Lombardi, and he quips that it's something for the super hardcore player, and slightly elaborates, "Take Portal for example: We had our best internal players who could blow through that game in about 30 minutes, but within weeks of launching it we had people on YouTube beating [the testers'] times by 10 minutes or more. Realism is for those players."Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Left 4 Dead 2 Achievements Reveal New Items, Confirm Campaigns
The list of Xbox 360 Achievements for Left 4 Dead 2 appear to have just "confirmed" the game's two, still-to-be-officially-announced final campaigns and revealed new items, new infected and... clown nose honking?!
The list of Achievements looks to verify the leaked campaign posters for "Dead Center" and "Hard Rain," possibly ordering them in sequence as the first and second-to-last campaigns in Left 4 Dead 2.
Also apparently confirmed is the Boomer Bile Bomb, a grenade weapon that looks to be gathered from slain infected CEDA agents. Our best guess is that the Bile Bomb works in the Survivors' favor, sending a horde of zombies after the target in a fashion similar to the Antlion pheromone weapon seen in Half-Life 2.
The Achievements also make mention of a defibrillator twice, which looks to revive dead Survivors.
Of course, the Achievements also reveal that Valve hasn't lost its touch for puns. Read through the full list for plenty of laffs.

Valve Details Left 4 Dead 2 Demo
Valve Details Left 4 Dead 2 Demo
Written Thursday, October 15, 2009 by Dan Webb
So we all know by now that the Left 4 Dead 2 demo will drop on October 27th for those that pre-order the title, but what about the rest of us mere mortals? Well Valve today dated the demo for Gold and Silver members whilst offering a few tidbits of information about what we can expect.
The demo will drop on Xbox Live on November 3rd for Gold members, with Silver members set to get it on November 10th... you know, the day Modern Warfare 2 drops.
The demo will feature gameplay from the Parish campaign, set in New Orleans' French Quarter and will also features all the new Special Infected bosses as well as all the new melee weapons.
So that's October 27th for pre-orders, November 3rd for Gold members, and everyone else on November 10th. What happened to the days when demo release dates were simple?Comment
