On level 3, when you have to ride those hoverbike-things. That game used to piss me off to no end, but I'd keep coming back...

Games of yesterday are just completely different experiences. It's not just a matter of games looking better now, they're more accessible, there's more depth to them. That's not a slight against old-school games like Contra, but in a game like that the first level is the same as the last, just a whole lot harder. Those games were tests of endurance, not everyone could beat them and not everyone was supposed to. Now games are like films and you're supposed to see the end. They're friendly, accommodating, and glossy. It's totally different.

It's ok if he struggled with the difficulty, but to complain because it's harder than games today...I don't know, I see that as a problem.

There's no way that a CoD should be easier than Contra. Yet, it is. Explain that.

I believe it was said earlier in the thread, seeing the end screen in Contra was a feat to behold. There really was no reason to finish, other than to say you beat it.

Modern games, like CoD, want you to see the end. It is basically an interactive movie.

Games can entertain you in more ways than "here are more enemies following identical patterns"

If you want a "hard" Call of Duty, buy the PC version, use some level editor to create a really long corridor and fill it up with bad guys to your heart's content.

You now have a "hard" modern game. Enjoy

The rest of us will enjoy the progress made in the last 20 years

COD is a mulitplayer game. If you want hard, go play COD4 in the hardcore lobbies. That is what the game is about. The single player IMO, is just a great way to get used to all the controls of the game.

Thanks man. The part in the second level where the kid says he was trying to jump in the black hole was pretty funny...especially when the guy asked him what happened.

Hey, now, I love the progress, but it's still funny to me that games 20 years ago were harder than today.

Just because it's an interactive movie doesn't mean it should be easier than the games of the past. Granted, I agree that the games of 20 years ago were at times ridiculously difficult with little instruction.

But if people want to talk about society today being babied into victory, why is gaming ignored from this argument?
