The ocean looks amazing by the way, I'm just about an hour into the game. The voice acting is pretty bad. Especially the main character. Sounds a little like Christian Bale as Batman.

Pretty deep with the crafting, I really like that. Looking forward to exploring more tonight.
I put mine at 3 and that's worked for me.

So far my biggest critique of the game is that it's too unforgiving with the lack of explanations. There is a "race" quest where I had to go to a house to talk to the dude to start the quest. My horse couldn't go through the house, but the minute I accepted the quest a clock started ticking down and I had to run to my horse all the way around to the starting point and then run. This killed the quest and I will have to do it again.

BTW if you are a lower level character and run into some dungeons you may trip upon early, be prepared to be decemated if you get too close to some of the monsters. Demon's Souls like in some ways.

Are you constantly running in this game, like the first one, or can you walk?

It took me twice to get that one done....
My horse was able to be "parked" right in front of house...?

One thing Im loving is the more abiities you unlock the more fun and unique the fighting is. At the start its just a hack fighting system but after you get some abilities it add some strategy.
And like you said even at beginning of game you cant just go running into a fight lol

Im very pleased with this game. Challenging, fun and magic system second to none IMO

You can walk. There is a sprint button.

It seems like you have to keep hitting the sprint button when you are on a horse though. It hasn't been to response to pushing forward on the analog stick.

About the horse.... That is my biggest beef with the game. Whoever decided on the method should get punched. Lol

I wrapped up last night around 2am. I spent the last hour or so in a field playing around with the cards.
I finally got the trap ability and its very cool. You have bombs Fire bombs, slashing/blade bombs etc....

I can't wait to get rolling into this tonight. Are you all going with the storyline, or doing some free roaming?

It's going to take some getting used to, and I'm definitely going to have to change the camera, try the "3" like suggested. I didn't check to see if I could change it, glad to hear that's an option. It was WAY too touchy.

Also, if you all have the PC version, and your guy has a completely white face upon starting the game, disable Antialiasing in the nVidia Control Panel if you have an nVidia card. I was having that problem, and it fixed it for me.

Well i just checked my last save file:
Im 12 hours in and Im still on chapter 1.... So yeah ive done quite a few side quests and just roaming looking/buying magic cards....

Also i just made a pretty cool repulse spell
                Spoiler
Just tried it out in a fight and a skeleton started slashing at me and woosh he went flying into a wall and just stuck there while i killed him. Another one just went flying across the room... Lol
I love just toying around with this magic system!!!! Have I said that yet???

This is especially true after having played Red Dead. I am glad I purchased the game to support the company. I know these small shops cannot put out perfect games, but as long as there is a lot of fun I am happy.

BTW I don't know if it's just me, but this game seems like the spiritual successor of the Gothic series.

You're spot on man about supporting them. Even though there are things that need work the game is very fun and not even remotely as bad as some of the "reviews".
For all the cookie cutter games out that get pass after pass i just dont understand how some of these reviewers operate.

Bottom line is the game is fun and gets better and better the more you play and learn new abilities.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting it to be perfect. I did get to play another hr for my lunch break. This game runs better than Oblivion does on my laptop. So that's a big plus. I just started free roaming. Finding some useless equipment to break down and build up my other equip. I haven't started fiddling around with upgrading stuff, just breaking it down.

Does it give you a walkthrough on "how" to upgrade. I talked to the smithie, but he didn't give instructions really.

I did try to take on 2-3 orcs right near you crush the others with the rock in the walkthrough, and I lost big time, lol. Definitely fun though.

Don't think it gives a detailed discription but the PDF Guide says:

                        Crafting:
You can either upgrade items – up to additional 20 levels more than the item currently has (level is marked with an asterisk), as well as you can destroy them. To improve the item you must have developed crafting skill:
Metallurgy – this will give you an additional 10 levels of improvement.

Depending on the type of item you can upgrade by further 10 levels: Armor Reinforcement (armors), Weapon Forging (weapons), Shield Casting (shields), Archery Craftsmanship (bows).

To upgrade the items you must have the appropriate materials – the best and easiest way to get them is by destroying unused stuff.

Below is a list of all materials that are used in the game:

                        Iron
                        Elements of chainmail
                        Skin
                        Wood
                        Material
                        Gold
                        Steel

Fusion – if you have developed this skill, you can insert (as well as draw) the magic stones, adding, for example, extra damage from one of the elements, increasing the resistance or raising stats. The more developed the skill is, the better stones you can insert or join together (the same five stones of the same level gives one stone at higher level).

Also in case you haven't got that far: At some point in the game you'll meet a guy who will (once for free then 800 I believe) reset all your skills. This allows you to totally redo your character as once he resets you, all the points you've used go back inot the pot and you can reassign them.

So lets say you went heavy into magic and sneak/assasin stuff but don't like how you are doing. Go see the man and he'll reset everything and you can "redesign" your guy

On a side note... I'm getting my butt handed to me right now and I'm trying different items/spell....
I think I've been pretty stupid in my armor and weopn stuff..paying for it now lol

I'm level 21 Now and am about to finish Chapter 1.
I always get myself side tracked and do other things other than the story. I do have the Thieves, Merchants, Mages and Warriors Guilds now though... so more side quests!!! Yay!

Still don't have Weapon Forging yet as I'm a few levels short on Metallurgy But I'll get there soon...

Yeah, I think it's relatively deep what all you can do, and I hope that Skyrim takes note of this. I'm taking out Orcs two at a time right now. If there are more than that, I'll try to pop one with an arrow, and the nearest one to him normally comes to help find me as well... take those two out, proceed down the path. I'm going to have to work with the view though. It's different. I don't feel like I can see a lot of what's going on, ala Oblivion.

It's a different game, but I think it'll tide me over for a little while anyway.

Anyone know how large scale the world is? I feel like I'm relatively restricted for where I can, moreso than Oblivion. I know I'm comparing the two a lot, but this one does a LOT right in my opinion.

And I'm VERY glad that you can reset your guy. Wish there was something I could do about the looks too. I randomized and went with it because I was still dealing with the white face glitch... and now I'm going a lot further than I was going to on my "test run"

The world map is pretty huge. Tons of areas I havent went yet...
I think I'm going to get reset. I really want to forge weapons now buy I'm 3 lefels short as I put a LOT into ranged weapons stuff. Something I usually dont do but tried this time..... That will teach me...

Good deal. Do you think the terrain is more restrictive than Oblivion? Or is it just because I'm still right around the first "broken" bridge, and the outlying areas? I really want to jump into the game, but the little one is demanding my attention right now.
