Re: Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection (PS3/360)

Just bought it ..haven't played, but will soon and post some impressions from my perspective of recently finding fun in digital pinball games, but never really liking them growing up.

need to share this info though:

      traded in:

      fallout3
      fightnight4
      CoD4

after buying the game on credit I still have $74 left over!
I traded in fallout because the goty edition w/ all 5 expansions is out in a few weeks at 59.99 and I got 40 bucks trade in value...this is a no brainer!
      fightnight4 i just don't like
CoD i got rid of because I'm buying MW2 in november and OFP2 in oct.

YES! the least value was cod4 which was 30 dollars
fn4 was about 40 dollars and fallout was 35 dollars

I'm canadia I'm not sure if that makes any diff in trade in values. I also went to EBgames which is one in the same as gamestop i believe.

edit** actuall I think I got more...they gave extra because it was 3 games, and my pinball game has a pricetag of 39.99.
yeah my receipt says preown total 115.02, and new balance after purchase is 75.03

I like the game. It something that I've been looking for that is more sophisticated than an arcade title, but one that I can play for 15min or for 20 hours...whatever I desire. The tables have some variety, although I actually wish there was more of them. I already have favorites.
one gripe is during the loadtimes they have pro tips, but they are on screen for about half of a second - there is no way I can read them in that time and since I don't know too much about pinball compared to the hardcore they would be helpful...i guess I should read the manual.
I really like the mideval one so far because it has some cool objectives that are very clear. (some of the tables are so full of noise and are so busy that besides getting points I don't always get the 'concept')

Glad I picked it up - on a side note, it will be cool when a buddy or two is over having some casual beers because you're supposed to pass the controller in multiplayer which I really like. More games should do that when you're just going one at a time.

Re: Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection (PS3/360)

If you like pinball, you'll like/love this. I'm already a huge fan of Medieval Madness....spent way more $$$ on the real life machine than I'd care to admit, and the recreation here is spot on. Plus, Pinbot is an excellent pin as well. The rest I'm kind of "meh" about, but I'll most likely discover one or two that I never played that I'll enjoy.

Each pin has detailed instructions with it on the modes, etc. So even if you don't know the machine, you'll be able to learn it.

Some gripes: You can't change the settings on the machines. Like timers, balls to start with, etc. Can't believe that was left out.

While the music in the game is actually not terrible, I really wish I could import my own playlists.

The layout of the arcade isn't really that great. Small gripe, but I wish they just gave us list of the games and let us scroll thru and choose instead of having to navigate thru the arcade.

Here's to wishing for more titles like this, with some more popular games like Twilight Zone, Adams Family, and my personal favorite, Indy 500. Looks like I might have to go back and install some of those pinball emulators for the PC, but it's soooo much more fun to sit in front of my HDTV and play.

Finally, what views are people using in the game? Still trying to find one that I'm comfortable with. I'm not a fan of the views changing and zooming in.

Re: Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection (PS3/360)

The 3 new tables you will learn to love, Williams tables from the 90's are the best machines ever.

No Good Gophers has arguably the most rewarding shot in pinball, the "Hole In One" when the slam ramp comes down you have to launch a perfect shot and if you get a little lucky it will go in the hole on the top of the playfield where the flag pin is.

Shoot the right flipper into the left loop followed by the upper flipper into the upper ramp, the slam ramp will lower and the ball will come to the left flipper for the "launch" shot.

Also during multi-ball the hole in one shot is a super jackpot, when you get it going you can make that machine scream. I had one in my house for 2 years. Medieval Madness is a classic game, and Tales of the Arabian Knights was a limited run machine, one of the few Williams I haven't played in real life.

90's Williams machines have very detailed rule sheets and things you can do. You need to learn all the shots and the various modes in the machines, the deeper you get into the games the better they get. The rule sets are much more limited in the older ones, although they're great as well.

Let's hope they have DLC for this title there are TONS of awesome WIlliams machines out there to play. I hope this company goes after other pinball licences like Sega/Data East and Capcom.

Take time to learn how to "catch" the ball and other various flipper tricks and being able to make various shots and the depth of these machines will become more evident and addicting.

Download visual pinball, and pin mame, you can get almost any table. High Speed is a cool Steve Ritchie table, one of the first 90's Williams tables.

last night I was #9 on the leaderboards for 'funhouse'...I have a few top 50s.

I bet I've slid a few places on funhouse, but it was cool seeing how high I was.

I noticed #1 overall is a news editor for gamespot, so I mssg'd him saying i'm glad they gave the game a decent review...that dude is so far ahead of everyone else he must be a pinball fanatic.

This game is a lot of fun. The physics are very good too. Better than Zen Pinball. I did pretty well in the Williams Challenge, didn't finish all the tables, but was able to get through 8 or so. If you like Pinball it is a no-brainer purchase especially for the $40 price tag.

Right on! The Pure Pinball PC versions tables are slightly more interesting, but the fun factor for this one is through the roof!
