Re: Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection (PS3/360)

    Damn!

Last night i got a 214 challenge score mostly because of a 52 million score performance on arabian nights - I unlocked all the challenges on the table in that round it was incredible...problem was My live connection cut out, so when I put it back on and checked hte leaderboards only my previous best (172) was on and arabian nights (around 20 million) was shown!

I guess it's fair if it prevents cheating, and it shows the scores for me at least...but errrrrrr!

This game is smooth and very enjoyable. I managed to get 183 score on the Williams challenge. Anyone try out the Gottlieb collection for the xbox. I found it at EB games for $10 and bought it. Never played it before...but it is Pinball so it must be fun. Too bad one of the Gottlieb tables was not Haunted House.

It's a good game, I went out and bought the pool themed 70's machine after playing it on xbox! Gottlieb EM's are great old machines, they need to release a game with a bunch of "wedgeheads" from the 60's and 70's when Gottlieb was king of pinball, there's a bunch of fun machines that would translate easily and awesomely on next gen like this game.

Yeah, "old" is the key word when talking about the tables in this game. Where Williams' game has just one EM machine, Gottlieb has 3 I believe, dating back as far as 1957!

It does have newer tables too, but don't go in expecting anything like Medieval Madness or Arabian Nights and you'll probably enjoy it. Also the ones that do have DMD - like Teed Off - the display is simplified with very little animation

One other thing - at least on the PSP the camera's aren't as "smart" as they are in Williams - they don't cut down to the flippers when the ball is falling to the lower playfield. You might want to try out each camera to find out which one gives the earliest view of the flippers. There is a full-screen camera too of course, but that makes things very difficult to see on the PSP.

It's not a bad game, but doesn't compare to Williams IMO (and not just because it's PSP vs. PS3). Also, I've kinda always preferred Williams and Bally pins anyway - didn't play too many Gottlieb ones.

BTW, the Williams game needs High Speed II: The Getaway DLC like, yesterday.

              My favorite table EVER.

that will be there for quite some time..that's quite a feat man!

that's better than the gamespot editor who was #1 when the game was new with over 500.

What's your high score on MM, funhouse and Space Shuttle?

Just had my best run on MM yet, close to 50 million. Should have been higher though - I had 4 of the Multiball Madnesses all ready to go, but unfortunately when I hit Merlin I got......trolls. So, no multiball and of course, I drained during trolls.

Also got 3 parts of the Battle for the Kingdom requirements - has anyone actually gotten to that wizard mode yet?

I bought this off of Amazon the other day and it arrived today. Played a game at lunch. I've been a pinball video game fan since the days of Video Pinball on Atari. A lot of peoples' reviews on here helped sway me to pick it up. I think I'll have no problem liking this.

You should've gotten multiball anyways. Just because trolls is lit doesn't stop multiball. In fact, I prefer to start multiball with trolls, because you get a long ball save and it's easier to complete trolls with multiball. Also, multiball sorta starts over when you complete trolls as well. This is the easiest way to get master of trolls.

Highest so far is 90+ mill and have yet to start Battle for the Kingdom. I was close on that high score game, but no dice. The high scores for this game are ridiculous...700+ Mill last I looked.

Well, I think I suck at pinball. My scores are pretty lousy overall, although I have had some pretty solid ones. Is the trick being able to bump the machine to control your ball? I'm working on that a bit as well as trying to control the ball with the flippers. I've found myself frustrated at times. I think my reaction time is too slow right now. That needs to improve.

I think the game looks great though. Impressed with the graphics, sound, and ball physics. The ball physics in Pinball FX always bugged the heck out of me. I'm liking this one much better.

That's part of it, but a HUGE part of it is trapping the ball with the flipper so you have time to aim your shots accurately. I've noticed two things work really well in this game - bounce passing and "flip" trapping. Bounce pass is by far the easier one - it simply means to not flip when the ball is heading straight toward a flipper (at a decent speed). Most of the time the ball will simply bounce off the dead flipper and onto the other one, where it can easily be trapped or provide a slow roll for the other one.

The other one is more difficult, but much more rewarding - flip trapping is putting an equal amount of force on a flip as a ball heading downward. It's a physics thing - flip a bit earlier that you normally would and there won't be enough force behind it to move the ball, but not so much that it's like hitting a wall and bouncing away - instead it will often stop dead on the upraised flipper, allowing an easy trap. It's a lot easier to pull off in this game than in real life, believe me.
