Re: Fable III
Eurogamer - 8
It may be messy and clunky from time to time along the way, but Fable III is only guilty of indulging its designers' whim at the expense of necessary polish, and in the royal scheme of things it's a crime you're happy to pardon. Many more RPGs will follow between now and whatever Lionhead does next with the series, but few if any will possess half as much heart, and most importantly, whatever else they have to offer, none will have Albion.
The Pros- Incredibly articulated world
- Expanded story
- Effective combat system redesign
- Working Co-Op mode
The Cons- Game makes improvements, but didn't capitalize on them
- NPC interaction has been limited
- Occasional technical issues
Fable III is an enormously rich experience in which no moment is lacking; however, the collective experience, how it connects to the narrative spine, is less than the sum of its parts.
For a game based on the trick of making promises and then making good on them, it falls into the very conundrum it seeks for the player to experience. Fable III is an amazing game that I intend to play through again and perhaps, this time, it will be better to know that the getting to the throne is a messier affair than I originally thought.
I found Fable III to be a lot of fun, which is ultimately the most important thing you could ask of a game. It has its shortcomings -- a few technical bugs occasionally rear their ugly faces and the disjointed design stunts some of the more emotional moments -- but all told it’s a great game that is well worth your time and money.
This is a massive game, and yet it remains accessible to gamers of all skill levels. That in itself is a pretty special achievement. Tack on a solid combat system, an immersive world, and decisions with real consequences, and you’ve got a game that just about anybody can enjoy.
Even after you “beat” the game, new quests, locations, and characters open up. And those decisions you made as king? They’ll affect the way the world looks and behaves, too. Without spoiling anything, let’s just say that when I said just about everybody died, I wasn’t kidding. From raising a family, becoming a land baron, and even partnering up with friends locally or online, this is the most fully realized version of Albion yet. It’s a must-play for fans of adventure or anyone who thinks they can run things better than those bums in Washington. Good luck.
Thought provoking and thoroughly entertaining - but be warned: This time your choices really do have consequences.
Uppers- The best Fable yet
- Thoroughly entertaining quests
- More elegant RPG systems
- Choices with consequence
Downers- Needs more King quests
- Easy to stumble into game-ruining ending
Bottom Line: Fable 3 is the best Fable yet. It's mature and thought provoking, with a final act that will genuinely surprise and confound you. It could've been a masterpiece, but its many technical problems bring it down.
Recommendation: It's frustrating, but play it anyway, if only for the wonderfully quirky quests and the way your choices genuinely pull at your conscience. Or just to kick the chickens, whatever.
Pros:
- An incredible upgrade from the previous game; in visual presentation, gameplay and variety of quests
- The narrative is easily the best of the series and is the first to drive a Fable game so seamlessly. The dialogue is also laugh-out-loud funny which only adds to the enjoyment
- Innovations in the pause screen and upgrade system coupled with the already excellent aspects of the game make it the most complete adventure game of the year
Cons:
- If you didn’t like the Fable series before now this won’t do enough to change your mind
- Gears of war style health system may not be to some tastes
Fable III is the most complete third person adventure game of the year. That’s not to say that you’ll enjoy it the most or that it is objectively the ‘best’ but the gameplay is fun, addictive and tweaked to allow players to actually play the thing rather than sit and plan routes or read instructions. The visuals are some of the best on the Xbox 360, the story is a familiar one but timeless nonetheless and drives the game to a much greater degree than any previous game in the series. You could drone on and on about the intricate details of this game, how you’ll visit familiar places, see familiar faces and be a part of some ridiculously inventive quests along the way but it’s easier sign off by stating what should by now be obvious; Lionhead studios have created a masterpiece and, whilst it does have some minor imperfections, it’s as close to a perfect adventure game as you’re likely to find nowadays.
Of the trilogy, Fable 2 still proudly stands as the apex -- a magnanimous leap over its predecessor and as one of the best games on Xbox 360. Fable 3 almost eclipses it, but it stumbles along the way, and alternates between, "it's Fable 2, but better" and, "it's not as good as Fable 2." Nonetheless, Fable 3 is even simpler than its predecessor while remaining utterly and distinctly charming when compared to the rest of the 360's library -- it just isn't quite as magical as Fable 2.
Fable III does a great job reprising the elements you expect from the Fable series. The colorful, sprawling lands to explore, the great flexibility in how you develop your character and make your way through the world, the wonderfully dry sense of humor, and the cockeyed view of fantasy tradition are all here and accounted for. It's just the rough trimming around the edges, the ways that those grand elements could have been better realized and better conveyed to the player, that make this as frustrating a game as it is lovable.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Fable III
Really like how the orbs you get when killing thing automatically come to you now. The world/areas really seem more "alive" now also. The sanctuary that keeps your outfits and weopons will take some getting used to but overall it's cool.
Bottom line is it's More fable gameplay and it's fun.Joshua:

Re: Fable III
They've certainly streamlined everything from how magic and upgrades are acquired to inventory management. It's so different that it's very strange..... So far though I'm really liking the game.Joshua:

Re: Fable III
I really want this game, but I'm going to force myself to finish Fable II before I buy Fable III. The Add-Ons dection is almost all Fable III, LOL. They have a got a LOT of Day 1 DLC. Although some of it says it's included in the retail game, so I'm not sure why it's up?Favorite Sports Teams

Re: Fable III
You can see it from inside the game also. From the sanctuary..... Download there.
I love the tweaked fighting system and the environment overall.
The map system is very easy to use and is right at your fingertips. What I really like is when you go to map it has a Civilization feel to it and you can move a magnifying glass over the town to get details of the structures. Sure not everyone will like some of the changes but I sure do.Last edited by Skyboxer; 10-26-2010, 10:10 AM.Joshua:
