Re: Outgrowing gaming: How do you recognize it??

I will never out grow gaming..........Mainly for me anyway because I own a lot of games from all genres. So therefore it never gets stale to me.

I got all the sports games except for hockey.

    Got all the war games.......

Got Tropico 3 to satisfy my empire building thirst....

Got Dragon Age, Mass Effect 2, Final Fantasy 13, Fable 2, etc to satisfy my RPG itch.

Got GTA4, Splinter Cell Conviction, Red Dead Redemption, etc for my adventure itch...

And that is just the gaming I do on consoles, don't even get me started on my PC games LOL. Got way too much variety to get bored with gaming.

Yep. I just opened Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition. Did it two days ago. Bought it months ago. Months. Still haven't played it. I just don't have the time or desire at the moment. I think my PS3 has been sitting cold for nearly two months.

It's not that I don't like playing video games; it's just I simply don't have the time to dedicate to it like I once did. I don't want to fire up a game and know I have to turn it off in one hour or keep jumping back and forth between the game and my work email.

I'm home now having an easy day from work and I was so tempted to start up Fallout 3, but how could I? I'm getting emails left and right. So instead I just scour the internet because it's easier to switch from that to my email.

Now I'm a young blood myself, only 23, so I will be gaming for a long time to come. Like some have said, you don't outgrow gaming, but you may move it down the priority list. My true passion is car audio. I swear I will be 80 years old in a town car with high-end component, indash tvs, 4 12"s or 15"s and the such. I actually want to own a stereo shop one day, but that a long time from now. It just depends on how passionate you are about your hobbies.

I think this is what will keep me in gaming forever. I love staying up to date with new PC technology and most of it happens in gaming. I couldn't live without my gaming rig:wink:

Re: Outgrowing gaming: How do you recognize it??

Here is my take, and feel free to consider what I say crazy.

I'm 36, married, with kids, but I do have free time to play. Time is not the issue, but I'm starting to find the "idea" of playing said game much more appealing than actually playing it. Make any sense?

I'll try to explain. I'd much rather buy a DVD of someone else playing a game <INSERT here game>than me actually buying it to play myself. I find myself wanting to "experience" the game as if it was more of a movie. I love watching my oldest son play COD:MW2 because I can sit back and just enjoy the graphics, sound, immertion, soak up the story... just take everything in.

I have a whole list of 360 games that I'd love to 'experience', like ME, ME2, AC and so on... I just don't want to actually play them to experience them. Strange, I know.

I'm 31 now, and i've noticed the older i get the more i play. There isn't much on TV that i watch, especially now that most of the shows end, and outside of work and a few things around the house my wife and I do i pretty much game till no end. Its cool because there's games now that have a much longer play time and shelf life. Hell NBA 2k10 and the Show 09 i still actually play, and i usually move away from sports games quick.

But my wife said it best.

hmmm... outgrow implies that gaming should only be a phase or that its bad for you.

                a few things i've outgrown
                1. super baggy jeans
                2. Fast food diets
                3. Risky sexual behavior
                4. Binge drinking

gaming is glut free entertainment. why would you outgrow it?

Re: Outgrowing gaming: How do you recognize it??

I would never outgrow gaming in a million years! It is my number one hobby and it is becoming more popular every year. I don't see how anyone can outgrow a hobby. Will I ever ourgrow watching hockey? No. Will I ever outgrow the internet? No.

Gaming is just as big a part of life as work/family is. For me it is time to unwind and not worry about anything. I remember when I was ten my brother and I used to play NHL 2001 constantly. Then a few years ago we would have NHL 2K8 nights on the weekend.

I play anything and everything sports. I have Madden 10, FIFA 10, NHL 2K10, NHL 10, MLB 2K10, and NBA 2K10. The only sport I am hardcore in is hockey but I like all sports so I buy their games. I look at it like this. If I buy ten games per year that is $600 + tax. If I go out and party like a maniac every week I would probably spend $600 in two weeks. I would rather spend $60 on a game that will occupy me for months than spend money partying for one night.

I also loved action games. I loved Halo and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. After those games I only played sports games for the next four years. I just recently got back into action games with Modern Warfare 2 and Read Dead Redemption.

Gaming is my hobby and there is no way I will ever outgrow it.

Well, I'm back to wanting to play the PS3 right now, after getting some time in with RDR. I'm really wanting to turn on the system and just explore. This game is exactly what I needed. Other than a "Troy" based game, this is the game that I've wanted for the longest time.

When life is going good I tend to game alot.

When life is in the dumps, I get somewhat remorseful when I game.

I don't really see myself ever stopping, especially if technology keeps advancing the way it has the past 20 years. Of course, if Madden keeps regressing that means that we'll all be playing 10 Yard Fight then, but I digress.

I'm 33 and in just 10 years being out of college, I've already exceeded my wildest dreams as far as my salary and my job. For me it's a way to decompress, I have what most people would consider a high-stress job (I'm fine with it), but nevertheless it's nice to sort of get away from it all for a couple hours here and there.
