That doesn't mean I'm cool with the shift though. But hopefully it's not a complete change to action horror.
True, but does anyone truly become numb to dismembered humans walking abound?

                Re: Dead Space 2

EDGE Interview from a few weeks ago.

But we’re dedicated to making Dead Space 2 a true sequel to Dead Space, and that means retaining the survival horror elements. And if that means adding a bit more action in because it makes sense with the story then that’s going to happen, but we aren’t making a run-and-gun shoot ‘em up space marine game. That’s not our game and it would be silly for us to make a game like that because that’s not what Dead Space is about. We value the people that have supported this franchise to date and we would never want to alienate or turn them off. We’ve seen what has happened with other games out there when things like that happen and we’re not going to let that happen to Dead Space. So I just want to dispel any concerns people have – this is a true Dead Space game.
The setting in the previous game was crucial to the story and the development of what we’ve built to date, so going up to the Ishimura, stumbling upon this horrific situation, and that’s kind of where the story went in the first game. In this game you’re in a different location and there are people around and because of that there is going to be interaction with a wide range of people. And again, we’re using our environments to support and help build a great story.

As far as it being more cinematic, yeah, I think there’s going to be moments when it feels more cinematic and I’m not sure that’s a bad thing by any means. But I don’t think it’s going to detract from that survival horror tension that we achieved in the first game.
We’ve been playing around with ways to give players more freedom in Zero-G environments. Destructible environments are really focused on enhancing the experience for the player. In the previous game we had very outstanding visuals that the team felt needed another level of interactivity for players. This time out players are going be able to use the environment or things in the environment as strategic combat alternatives. So imagine shooting out a window and creating a vacuum sucking enemies out into space, or shooting a pane of glass and having a jagged piece fall on the ground, grabbing that piece and then impaling a necromorph to a wall.
To get back to your question about people not wanting multiplayer, or potentially not wanting it, I think that until people see what we’re doing with the multiplayer there’s always going to be speculation and we encourage that. It’s exciting for us that people care about what we’re doing and in the months to come when we start talking more about what we’re doing with multiplayer I think people are going to be excited, and some of those people who are maybe concerned that we’re doing something weird or watering down the singleplayer experience to create the multiplayer are going to be surprised, and pleasantly so.
                ...

I can’t really go into much detail other than to say that you’ll be able to strategically dismember your friends.

I could be wrong, but it looks just like Dead Space 1 but with a new story line and setting.

The 1st to me was a play once and trade in game, so I can't see myself going for this unless there are some drastic changes.

But that's what it's supposed to be? It's a horror adventure... those typically don't warrant too many playthroughs, as you'll know all the scares, etc, after your first trip.

I played through the first one once and it was WELL worth my $60.

Dead Space: Ignition announced for PSN and XBLA, is prequel to Dead Space 2

Hours before engineer Isaac Clarke begins his adventure on “The Sprawl” in Dead SpaceTM 2 a Necromorph outbreak occurs – but how did the events unfold? Players will witness the horror first-hand when Visceral GamesTM, an Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) studio releases Dead Space Ignition, an all-new downloadable game that takes place on the Sprawl and challenges players to survive the initial Necromorph outbreak. Dead Space Ignition will be available in Fall 2010 on Xbox LIVETM Marketplace and the PlayStation®Network.

“Dead Space Ignition is the first of many exciting game extensions we have planned for the launch of Dead Space 2,” said Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer on Dead Space franchise. “The interactive comic-style game will give Dead Space fans a unique perspective on the events leading up to Dead Space 2, but will also introduce the storyline to a brand-new audience of gamers.”

Dead Space Ignition combines an interactive comic-style story with three unique hacking mini games; Hardware Crack, Trace Route and System Override. Each game offers a fun and satisfying arcade experience that will challenge players with puzzles and twitch gameplay. Dead Space Ignition features a unique “Choose Your Own Adventure” type narrative, allowing players to survive the horrific Necromorph outbreak in multiple ways. The game offers four unique endings and upon completion of each one, players will be rewarded with unlocks including an exclusive suit, all of which can be used by Isaac Clarke in Dead Space 2 when the game releases on Jan 25, 2011.

Dead Space Ignition is written by Antony Johnston, the award-winning, New York Times bestselling author of comics, graphic novels, video games and books including Wasteland, and Daredevil. Antony makes his return to the Dead Space universe after creating the six-book Dead Space comic series in 2008. In Dead Space Ignition, Antony uses his horror story-telling expertise to introduce new characters and craft new plot twists for this intriguing prequel.
