Backfire? Are u serious? If parents let thier teenagers play Call of Duty do you really think they won't allow junior to play this. The cool factor has risen ten fold with this commercial among younger gamers. This is easily the best video game commercial ever made and they've just increased thier sales by about 20%. It's freaking brilliant.

I know plenty of "Moms" who wouldn't buy this game for their kids, solely based on this commercial.
It will get tons of negative pub. But, if it works like it did for Mortal Kombat back in the day, then it will be Mission Accomplished I guess.Comment

What if Mom sees the commercial? And decides against buying it for junior?

I've lost count as to how many friends I have who would lecture they would never buy those Call of Duty games for thier kids because it is so violent and inappropriate and then when I ask them what gifts they got the kids for Xmas they say "oh a new skateboard, the new COD Black Ops because all thier friends have it so we couldn't say no etc..."
Judging by the sales of the COD series and what seems like 50% of the online community being 12 year olds and every friends' kids (including mine) having COD (those record COD sales are coming from somewhere and it sure ain't all adults playing them) then I'm pretty sure this is a brilliant marketing strategy. All it takes is Junior to beg for a few days and tell them his friends all have it and either he gets it for Xmas or his birthday or Mom and Dad will buy it for him if he saves his money up to pay for it. Almost every "cool" game is inherently violent but video gaming is not a billion dollar industry by accident.Last edited by Seymour Scagnetti; 01-17-2011, 09:54 PM.Comment

Re: Dead Space 2
I just think it is lame that the whole idea is based on, "Your Mom hating this." This game is so much more than just that. But, it will definitely bring some attention to this game. Unlike the first Dead Space, which flew completely under the radar. I think that a commercial touting it's critical acclaim would be better, but I am an old guy.Comment

Re: Dead Space 2
IGN Review - 9.0
Isaac's losing his mind in Dead Space 2. The guilt is tearing his very sanity apart. That's heavy stuff and it makes for a really engaging story. Isaac doesn't let anyone else in on the fact that he's coming unglued, so as a player I get to see who he really is and the facade he presents to the other characters. Isaac's internal conversations and hallucinations are among my favorite parts of this game.Dead Space 2 is pretty much the best haunted house attraction ever. Visceral stripped out the stuff that slowed down the original game (backtracking, getting disoriented, etc.) and ended up with a fast-paced game that's suspenseful and scary at the same time. You're funneled down these halls and corridors on your way from Point A to Point B, and ghouls pop out for you to blast. I know that "linear" is a bad word in the video game industry, but the package is so well done here that I can't knock Dead Space 2 for taking me on a very specific ride that's marked by awesome moments, environments that range from a cheery schoolhouse to pitch black rooms, and sound that's so well done I'd find myself trying to figure out if it was a monster making its move or my dog rummaging in the living room. Toss in some new disturbing enemies and surprises I won't ruin for you and you have a game that can feel like "the same old thing" at times but becomes much more than that as a whole. As much fun as all that is, the "go here and do this" structure does hamper the overarching story. The part about Isaac wrestling his demons is awesome, but the narrative driving the search for the Marker is a bit flat in comparison. Different characters are just popping up to tell you to go there and do that. I wouldn't have a problem with this structure if it ended with Isaac learning something or maturing as a protagonist, but we never get that moment where he takes charge of his own fate. He's always being pushed somewhere by someone.
Another stumble is multiplayer. I've played all of the game's five modes/maps, and none of them did anything for me. Players are broken into two teams: the humans have an objective and the Necromorphs are out to stop them at all costs. As a human, I'd run to an objective, hold out for as long as I could, and then get killed. As a Necromorph, I'd hope my minimal amount of damage dealt killed a weaken opponent or set the kill up for a friend. The pacing and vague objectives really didn't equate to fun. This isn't want I want out of a Dead Space experience.
Luckily, as I hope I've already driven home, Dead Space 2's single-player is so good, you shouldn't question picking this game up. Plus, if you're grabbing this on the PlayStation 3, you're getting Dead Space Extraction as well. IGN's already signed off on the game being cool, so getting it in HD and supporting Trophies is a win. Plus, you can play it with PlayStation Move or your regular controller and both work well.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Good news: Gamefly shipped Dead Space 2.
Bad News: I'm only on the 4th Chapter of Dead Space 1.
I sense some grinding in my future the next two nights.

Re: Dead Space 2
EA isn't wasting any time, already some news on some DLC content
Visceral Games also announced today Dead Space 2: Severed, an all-new digital download pack that extends the Dead Space 2 story with the addition of two standalone chapters in the single-player game. Dead Space 2: Severed will see the return of Gabe Weller and Lexine Murdock, the two main characters from the award-winning 2009 game, Dead Space Extraction. In Dead Space 2: Severed, the story of Weller and Lexine runs parallel to Isaac's blood-curdling adventure in Dead Space 2, but this time players will take on the role of Gabe Weller. Working as a Sprawl Security Guard, Weller has to fight against his own onslaught of Necromorphs, as he attempts to get both him and Lexine to safety. Dead Space 2: Severed will be coming soon for purchase on Xbox LIVE™ Marketplace and the PlayStation®Network.Comment

Re: Dead Space 2
While this is cool, kind of sucks for XBX guys since they can't play Extraction. I just never get some of the choices made for exclusive content. I understand that Extraction works better on the Wii and PS3 due to the control types, but couldn't Kinect be used in a way to take advantage of this? Oh well, it is what it is. Extraction is supposed to be really good too.Comment
