Re: Dead Space 2
I'll probably be picking this up in the next week or so though because I enjoyed the first one, and this one seems to be getting rave reviews.
I just kind of want to know a little more about improvements made, because I haven't really been following this. But after seeing the good reviews, I've suddenly got some interest.
Is the story as good or better than the first?
Are graphics improved?
Is it as jumpy/scary?
Is multiplayer any good?Last edited by CC; 01-28-2011, 12:19 PM.Comment

Re: Dead Space 2
It's been awhile since I've played it, but I thought movement was kind of slow, not necessarily the controls. Not even close to Killzone clunky, but still not right to me. It could have been the sensitivity I had it on.

The story is much better and Isaac is not silent anymore, he does talk and you hear his thoughts. I feel like they did a better job this time around building more story into the game which is great so far.
The game starts off with a bang is all I'm going to say.
Yes, the graphics are much better in DS2 over DS1 as you can see more details and color pops more now.
Yes, this is scary and jumpy.....plenty of moments where I was like doh!
I haven't touched MP yet.
Best of all, if you have a PS3, you get the full Wii game Extraction included. It is like paying $60 for 2 games as I think Extraction is going for $20-30.Comment

To help Isaac get to the bottom of this, the developers at Visceral Games have significantly tweaked his basic feel. While Isaac already controlled and felt smoother in Dead Space than, say, Chris Redfield from Resident Evil 5 or even Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil 4, the further tweaks he's undergone for DS2 make playing the original more difficult by comparison. Not only does he simply move and respond to your input faster, but the actual interface has undergone a welcome tweak (by example, DS2 moves reload to the more Call of Duty-esque X/Square button, and doesn't require you to hold down the Left-Trigger to do so). Isaac goes from feeling like a competent shooter character in DS to being an honest-to-goodness action hero now.
The best illustration comes from using telekinesis -- in Dead Space, telekinessis was more of a novelty or a gimmick, as Isaac simply didn't move fast enough, or required too many hand contortions to pick up objects and fling them towards enemies. Thanks to the rearranged buttons and responsive movement, you can easily shoot a limb off a Necromorph, use telekinesis to grab said limb, and finally impale the just-vivisected foe. Even the ponderous foot stomp feels mighty snappy now compared to then (amusingly enough, now that Isaac talks, he also screams profanity after extended stomping -- cathartic at first, but also verging on silly since you often have to stomp enemies for loot only to hear him furiously utter f-bombs throughout).
Scary - Yes sir. Not as creepy as the first one but it is tense throughout.
Multiplayer - I rented the game so I don't have the MP codeComment

Re: Dead Space 2
Awesome, that sounds great. Thanks very much guys, I appreciate it. Seems like a worthy buy to me.
And thanks for the heads up on the extra content. I was going to get it on 360 (because I tend to feel like non-exclusives run better on the 360), but now I will for sure be picking it up on PS3.Comment

Is anyone who bought Dead Space 2 not going to use the Dragon Age 2 armor code? If not I'd appreciate it~Comment

Re: Dead Space 2
I really liked the first few levels, but now I'm on Chapter 4 and everything just seems so odd with the environment. LOL! It almost feels like some cult crap and I hope this is not where the story is heading.Comment

Re: Dead Space 2
The game starts off hot and then I think it just drags a little bit in the middle because some of the design layouts. Wait till you get to the later chapters as things begin to pick up.
If you have played the original, all I will say is damn! It is a blast from the past from Chapter 10 and on and was really fun part.Comment

Re: Dead Space 2
Loving this game, I had bought and played through Dead Space before starting this and i am glad i did as Dead Space was a great game too.
As good as this game is there are a few moments when i have thought ffs give me a chance. I am all for the shock and surprise but there are times when you are going to get damaged regardless of what you do.
I would rank the Dead Space series up there in my top games ever along with
Batman Arkham Asylum
Gears of War 1 & 2Comment
