As soon as I saw the thread title I though either Mario Kart 64 or Smash Bros Brawl/Melee. You can't do better for value than some of the Nintendo multiplayer games in the 4-player era IF you have a group of friends who can play in the same room.

Rise of Nations.

I still play this game with my friends. Unbelievable replay value. Last July 4th we recreated the war. Americans vs British in the Age of Enlightenment only. The game clocked in at 3 hours.

The British won.

RTS games give you great bang for the buck.

between those and B51942 on PC <- this was the only game that actually made me feel liek i was in a "war"...you couldnt just run around like HALO and COD.


I think it was the way they designed the maps and the weapons or something that made it so you would want to have a little strategy instead of just running around fast twitch style.

I remmeebr literally 'hitting the deck' then crawling thru some brush...sneaking around and flanking a group of people with 3 other guys...the team work there was fantastic.

I like shooters like that...I'd play it now if i could...everything now is so fast and doesnt really reward or encourage "team work"...IMO at least

The old Ghost Recon games that came out on the first Xbox are exactly like this. Seriously, those GR games should be brought back with graphics enhancement and online play on a compilation disk for the 360, or at least be available for purchase through Xbox Live Marketplace.

Oh yes, AOM TT was bomb!! I tried starcraft and AoE but I could not play those for some reason.

forced to choose I would go with Team Fortress Classic/Team Fortress 2. The following are games I dropped a lot of time into:

Super Mario World SNES (Seriously, must have beat this like 100 times and found all the secret areas)
Goldeneye
Mario Kart 64
Starcraft
Halo CE, Halo 2 and Halo 3

honorable mentions: Kirby's Pinball (gameboy), Killer Instinct (SNES), Counterstrike, Gears of War 1/2, Left 4 Dead 1/2 and probably a couple of others I'm forgetting.
