Re: Spec Ops: The Line
What's made this game so good for me is that I'm actually feeling bad about some of the things I've done in it. Plenty of games force you to make choices, but there's almost always a clear-cut "good" and "bad" answer. That's not the case here. There's only bad and worse. Even making what I thought was the right decision can have horrible consequences.
Choosing who lived and who died in Mass Effect was a tough call, but after it was over I never turned off my Xbox regretting what I had just done. There are parts of this game that have elicited that emotional response from me.
As far as the actual gameplay, it isn't as tight as Ghost Recon, but other than some quirks concerning the cover system I didn't have any real issues.
Hopefully this does well at retail because I'd love to see more story-driven shooters come along.Comment

Re: Spec Ops: The Line
So four chapters in and this game is AWESOME. Great setting, sound, story, and gameplay.
In reference to the gameplay, one thing that always annoys me about critic reviews is when they knock the controls and aren't even executing them correctly. One review I read said the character kept meleeing when tapping circle to vault over obstacles. Well, that's because you have to press and HOLD circle, ya jackass. That same reviewer also said you needed to double tap then hold X to run. No, you press it once to sprint, then let go of the analog to stop. I mean, c'mon man.
Don't get me wrong, the game certainly isn't pushing any boundaries with its gameplay, but it's also just as polished and easy to use as any other third person shooter out there. If you don't like the controls in general, then fine, but at least have the damn commands right, lol.
Anyway, anyone who likes a single player campaign with a great story should definitely pick this up. I can't wait to play more.Comment

Re: Spec Ops: The Line
Hendrix song in the credits.
Short ride but certianly an awesome one worth taking...and going on again.
Steam lists it as 7.8 hours but I had it on pause for a bit a few times.
2 more for the sake of art...
and 3 very spoilerific that are just too damn good to not share but don't click on it unless you're finished...

This game has multiplayer?!?
In the middle of Chapter 7 right now. This game may just have the best SP story I've ever played in a military shooter (the original Halo still wins for overall shooter). It feels like I'm controlling the main character in a awesome war movie.Last edited by Beantown; 06-27-2012, 10:41 AM.Comment
