    Re: Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

I was kinda hoping the new Ghost Recon would go back to the game's roots as a realistic, slower-paced, tactical game. Oh well. Seems like the new trend is the future/modern/advanced route.

I guess I can try to get back into Operation Flashpoint, as annoying as that game can be with your crappy AI teammates.

I feel the same way. It seems that Ubisoft seems to think all gamers are stupid because that is the only explanation why they would cheapen their two most successful shooter franchises.

The latest Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six games have sold way more than the earlier installments. Practically everything is getting dumbed down these days - it's all about accessibility.

I think that has a lot to do with way more people playing videogames period. Ever year it's more and more people, girls etc.

Growing up I had a master system, then genesis and only a couple of friends had systems. Now I only have a couple of friends that don't own a system. And a big change has occurred this generation as well. I have friends that gamed only on pc, but purchased a 360.

I bought the first rainbow six for consoles (was it xbox?) ... and it was my fav so far.
So many people never played it because it was too early for them. GRAW was a launch title and benefited hugely from that. The graphics were amazing, but in the end it wasn't a very strong game imo.

I think if people played the original and it was on par graphics wise, that they wouldn't necessarily just go for the newer 'accessible' game. The original has a charm that the newer ones lack.

This always happens though, trends and buzz words take over and get played out until the next trend. Next trend will be 'complexity' lol.

to clarify ... I do like the vegas games and think they are better than GR ...I just wish the new GR games would be like the original rainbox six games (I know it's odd thing to say)

I wish there was no "Future" in the title. It means that it's not for me (as I prefer current realistic shooters).

I remember the first Rainbow Six, it was awesome, but way more tactical. You had to plan a takeout plan for each team in order to achieve the objective. Pretty tough and realistic, but awesome.

The newer ones are cool, but definitely not as realistic nowadays.

How much better is GRAW 2 than the first one? Major changes? Was thinking of getting one of them (PC)...

                          Re: Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

                          Some first impressions:

"Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is a departure from what has gone before, and it's a refresh that's as radical as Sam Fisher's recent turn in Splinter Cell Conviction...
From the brief hands-off demonstration we're given, it seems that Future Soldier is punchier and faster paced than past Ghost Recons, its tactics now played out in milliseconds rather than minutes... it's a world away from the measured tactical tempo of Advanced Warfighter."
                          http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/108/1083040p1.html
"Each soldier will be, as the developer likes to describe them, "an F-16 on legs." Those legs are able to run faster and jump further thanks to a lightweight, powered exoskeleton that also gives each soldier the ability to carry 300 pounds of gear...
After firing up a work-in-progress version of the game, I got a taste of what all this will mean for gameplay. The immediate impact is rate of movement. Where previous games in the series had the Ghosts running under the weight of their gear, the Ghosts in this game sprint through the war zone, diving over obstacles and sliding into cover from long distances. They're also able to tackle enemies by sliding into them and quickly roll out of the way of danger thanks to their exoskeletons."

Ghosts of War? Maybe it'll be good, but nothing like the old GR games.

It sounds good to me too, at the very least, it should stand out against other shooters. IGN preview mentions the game being 60fps, which is a rarity for console shooters these days.
