Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops

Yah this thing is ridiculous. I think I had a better time with the History Channel game.

Only standout part was by complete accident when I was in Nam. I turned on The End by The Doors,I was chatting with someone on MSN so had to pause the game a few times and the song kept going,it worked out so that just as the line in the song went "All the children are insane,Waiting for the summer rain" it started raining and the part that goes "Ride the snake, ride the snake To the lake, the ancient lake, baby The snake is long, seven miles, Ride the snake...he's old, and his skin is cold" I was under water and a big snake swam by.

It's glitchy, confusing story, there's a ton of non-sense,the controls for vehicles were awful, suspect hit detection and this is now offically the worst companion AI I've ever seen. I figured it's short so I'd finish it but I almost turned it off and gave up on it at least 4 times.

I finished it. I DID have a better time with the History Channel game. Also possibly Rogue Warrior.

Worst single-player campaign of any 1st-person shooter I've ever played. Disorienting, random, confusing, and cheap...I touched on this about 50-pages or so back, but Treyarch does not know how to make a single player campaign at all. They seem to equate "cheap" with "challenging" (not the same thing...and I suffered through and beat the thing on Veteran straight off the bat). I mean, I can think of at least 3 missions that were just completely frustrating and made me want to throw my controller through the window. And I rarely, if ever, get that worked up over games. But this game, both online and off, routinely made me want to punch something. Hard.

I went back and played MW2's campaign a bit ago with a buddy, and I was surprised at how much better and more entertaining that game was. I know it's trendy to rip Treyarch but...in my opinion, anyway, I think they deserve a lot of it. I can't imagine ever wanting to go back and play Black Ops single player campaign ever again.

I made it to Vietnam in the Campaign and never got through it.

I've been going back playing the campaign in MW2 and it's so much better.

All Call of Duty campaigns are boring as **** to me. They are a complete waste of time.

I think the single-player campaigns of Modern Warfare 1 and 2 are some of the best gaming experiences I've had. Especially MW2 - right from the get-go, you are in an intense firefight from the back of a Hum-vee, and it is hair-raising stuff. And the 2nd favela mission where you have to run like hell from the mob? Classic. I love a good single player, which Modern Warfare has done to perfection in the past. Although I like multiplayer, I primarily still buy games for the single-player, offline experience...guess I'm old-school like that.

It's the same as Madden always getting 8's and 9's despite being a pretty mediocre product. I never put much stock in what those reviewers say.

I feel the exact same! MW2 was the first campaign mode I ever seriously played of the COD's. I thought it was sweet as hell so i went and bought MW1 and that one was just as fun. Well I just know black ops was going to be fun, WRONG....WRONG. Cheap, pointless, random....I mean it flat out sucked. I'm about to play WaW and hope it's not as bad.

In all honesty, i think black ops is just a bad game overall. I sold mine on eBay last week. Will not rush out to purchase the next COD.

CoD 2 had a great campaign that wasn't over the top. From the little I played of CoD 3, it was similar. Then came MW and all the games after that and CoD as a whole just got worse in all areas except eye candy.

I've gone back to playing this a lot lately. The new zombie map along with Gun Game (Wager Mode) has me hooked. Never realised how much fun wgaer matches were.

Yeah, I never realized how much fun the wager matches were because I thought they were just regular multiplayer modes with the option to wager. I like the ones that are progressive weapons and in general, they seem a lot more strategic and less "cheap" than other modes. I still prefer hardcore modes, but the wager match stuff is a lot better than I would have thought. It's not advertised very well, though - I never knew the modes were so different from everything else.

Are they going to address the hit detection or lack there of it?

I doubt it...it just is what it is at this point. Very frustrating.

Any one here use the FAL a lot in multiplayer? If so, have they ever had any problems with it not firing sometimes? Since it is a single-shot weapon, I'm wailing on that right trigger (360 version) and it has happened on occasion where I'll get the first few shots off and then my RT just stops working. It is SOOOO frustrating. Just happened to me again and I had to rage quit since I was about to throw the controller across the room in frustration.

The first few times it happened I thought it was my controller. But since then I've bought a new controller and it still happens to me sometimes. Not all the time, but more than once is enough to make me want to stop playing and take a break.

It's probably happened a total about about 6 times, which different controllers. Just wondering if it has happened to anyone else.
