Surprised you don't have issues with the camera.

Camera is a bit on the close side and I wish it snapped behind you quicker without having to manipulate it but it's not a big deal to me. I don't really notice the running animations because most of the time, I'm looking at the map or the world around me.

Almost 20hrs in so far and it's just been getting better as I go along. Great idea with the Fateweavers, unbinding your fate. Keeps things very fresh.

I can only hope that I'm not setting myself up for failure as I do pretty much every side/faction quest. I've only done 3 or 4 parts of the main quest so far and the rest I've spent doing all the side stuff. I hope I don't fatigue myself on the game by doing so, but it's not like my near-OCD levels of need to complete everything would allow me to play a game like this any other way

Regardless, great game that seems to have been released at a terrible time with all the great games coming out (in February/March, who'd a thunk it?)....

        Re: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

I compare KoA to Skyrim because 1. Skyrim is the most recent rpg I have played. 2. My time to play videogames is very limited, so I have to make choices 3. Skyrim has gotten a lot of love, maybe too much, and KoA isn't getting the love it deserves.

I usually agree with pro reviews, but this time I think they're off by at least five points. Metacritic has it at 80-81 and I think it should be in the 85-86 range. Then again, I'm only 6 hours or so into the game, maybe it gets stale, but from what I'm reading here, the game only gets better.

I thought we were supposed to get something in this game if we completed the ME 3 demo. Is that incorrect? If true, did it work?

How do you figure it's gotten too much love? You think people shouldn't love it so much? Why, because you don't? People should have more love for KoA, just because you have a certain amount of love for it? Doesn't really make sense to me. I just don't understand the point of worrying about scores as long as you enjoy the game you're playing. Why does it matter so much?

It's funny but I read this thread to see general impressions of the game and I see a lot of people worrying about how this compares to Skyrim. You go in the Skyrim thread and no one is talking about this game at all. It's almost like you have, for lack of better words, an inferiority complex about it or something.

Okay, your time is limited, and you've only put 6 hours into KoA. I'd have to assume you're still extremely early in the game. Not much further from the demo area right?

How can you even make a judgement about the game as a whole at this point? You're still just barely into it. What have you seen in that very limited time frame that makes you think it deserves that point jump on Metacritic that you suggested?

None of the issues I've read about the game talked about the game lagging as it went along....I think 6 hours is more than enough to know what the game brings to the table...

I agree about letting it be it's own game though...

I agree, you don't have to play a game for 30 hours to know if it is going to be good. Usually within 2 to 3 hours you can tell if the game mechanics work. Sometimes on really poor games, you can tell the first hour that it sucks.

The combat in this game is the best I have played in a rpg. Everything just flows together.

Why compare Skyrim and Kingdoms? Why compare Brees and Rodgers? Or Kobe and LeBron? Because it's fun, relevant, and for me, figuring out which gets my time. Also, it's to say, "If you liked Skyrim, give Kingdoms a chance." I love Skyrim. Its atmosphere and story trounce Kingdoms, but Kingdoms' combat and fun factor beat Skyrim by a long shot.

Besides, I can talk about Skyrim and make comparisons all I want until a moderate says otherwise.

Irrelevant for me. I sunk well over 100 hours into Skyrim characters over the course of time since its midnight release - which feels like a long time ago now. It was an amazing experience, and I'm sure I'll get back into it one day, but I can't keep playing the same game forever. I was ready for something new.

BTW, the Brees/Rodgers comp I can understand, but not Kobe/Lebron. Since they're totally different kinds of players and play different positions, its impossible to say which is "better". It's enough to say both are great. Just like Amalur and Skyrim.

It really is a pleasure. Once you get the hang of the camera, and how to adjust it in the heat of battle, the combat is very slick - almost GOW slick.

The reason for this is the same as why, if you would have went to a New York Yankees over the past few years, nobody would be talking about the Rays. It wouldn't have been because they weren't good, it would be because the Yankees brand is just too big to allow the little guys to be noticed. Why worry about the competition? We're the New York Yankees, right? Same thing with the Skyrim community. There's a lot of history and, frankly, complacency there.

And I'm not arguing one game over the other at all. TBH, if pushed, I'd probably give Skyrim the edge for its immersion-factor.

I don't complain about the camera much. It has to be Ninja Gaiden bad to really bother me. (I suggest that be changed to NeverDead bad.) Though I don't think this one is bad at all.

And yes we were supposed to get something from the ME 3 demo. It said the servers were down every time I tried to play it on PC so it wouldn't have registered. It didn't say anything on 360. I checked on my Bioware page and I have 2 things so I guess maybe it worked. I'm not sure how many there's supposed to be.

This game is still as fun 20 hours in as it was after an hour. It's so cool when you finally get an awesome piece of armor or weapon that you've been waiting for, equip it, and then the very next chest you get a totally different weapon or piece of armor. It's happen to me on quite a few occasions and that's one reason why I'm really liking this game.

But it can't be compared to skyrim because they are totally different RPGs. From the color palette used to animate the environments to the gameplay, it's two different styles of RPGs that both represent the genre well.
