First, this is a really fun RPG. With a lot of RPGS, I'm not a fan of grinding because the gameplay gets repetitive after a while. But this is a fun game to grind in because the combat is so rewarding. Other than a wonky camera at times, the combat is really engrossing and pair that with a great loot system and you'll be playing it for a while. Great changeup to either The Witcher 2 or skyrim.

Re: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Yesterday, after a comment from Rhode Island governor Lincoln Chafee, rumors began to swirl that Kingdoms of Amalur developer 38 Studios was finding themselves with money woes.
Today, the Providence Journal reports that 38 Studios has, indeed, missed a loan payment to the state and now essentially finds itself in default.
Speaker of the Rhode Island state House, Gordon D. Fox, announced that 38 Studios had missed a $1.125 million installment on its roughly $75 million loan from the state. The developer is now seeking an emergency meeting with the state agency that issued the loan, the Economic Development Corporation, which is chaired by the governor. The EDC will be meeting tomorrow morning "to address and consider an unexpected occurrence that requires immediate action to protect the public regarding the 38 Studios, LLC financing."
Rhode Island issued the loan in July, 2010, in a bid to bring more gaming and tech jobs across the border from neighboring state Massachusetts. At the time, 38 Studios promised the Ocean State something it needed badly: more jobs.

Yikes, although their level of internal strife may not be the same, it looks as if 38 Studios may go the way of Team Bondi and be one and done.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Re: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Is there any internal strife? Or is this just that KOA didn't sell quite as well as they hoped? I still have to get it, haven't seen any great price drops though lolNintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Rhode Island owns Amalur, all other 38 Studios intellectual property if studio defaults
If 38 Studios does shutter, beyond Rhode Island taxpayers having to pay off the $75 million bond (plus interest) through 2020, it appears the state will also own the intellectual property of the developer as a parting gift. Reviewing updated documentation released by the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC) today, it appears 38 Studios put up all present and future IP by the company as collateral.Methenitis continued, "So, the RIEDC could then sell the rights in all of the Kingdoms of Amalur to another developer to offset the millions owed by 38 Studios, and this sale would typically be an auction-style sale to the highest bidder. As a secondary issue, if the sale of all those assets repossessed ends up being more than is owed, the RIEDC will theoretically owe those funds back to 38 Studios."
38 Studios LLC CEO Jennifer MacLean has taken an indefinite leave of absence from the video game design firm, company officials confirmed Wednesday.
Chief Operating Officer Bill Thomas said in a brief phone conversation that he did not know when MacLean would return and declined to discuss the reasons behind her time away from the company other than that it was her choice.

Re: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Curt agreed to pay Rhode Island the money owed. The state has since returned to the check back because there wasn't enough money to cover the amount owed.

Re: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Going after the crowded and often failed MMO Market is going to be a disaster for this studio.
Curt Bro, we know you loved WoW, but time to let it go.
Cut about 2/3 of your work force and focus on another single player KoA. The first was really pretty good and was a nice base to build on.
Keep the combat relatively the same and work on the story, characters, and the effects of choices in the game.GT: Event Horizon 0Comment

The anomaly that is WoW, probably cost us K.O.T.O.R. 3, another Amalur game, and who knows what other potential AAA single player RPG titles. Maybe after The Old Republics relative failure, other publishers will give up this fools errand.Jordan Mychal Lemos

38 Studios Employees haven't been paid since May 1st, Insurance up Thursday
38 Studios employees have not been paid since May 1 and their health care will end Thursday at midnight, a source with knowledge of the situation tells Joystiq. Employees are normally paid on the first and 15th of each month.
When asked if the studio would be shutting down this week, the source could only say, "Unknown at this time. Outlook is not good."
We're informed that 38 Studios' MMO, "Project Copernicus," announced by Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee as launching in June 2013, did have that date as its internal target. However, "Whether this is realistic or not is up for debate."
Gov. Chafee said in a press conference today that he would do what he could to prevent the studio from shutting down. Will the studio still exist within a month? "I have no idea," our source replied.Comment
