Hopefully nobody takes these to seriously - it's a beta after all.

Cover systems aren't really needed in an FPS in my opinion. You're in full control of your character from a first person perspective, you should be able to crouch behind some rocks and pop up and fire every now and then. If you can't, then you're playing the wrong game.

Yeah your right, its not that big of deal, not a game breaker and probably not needed as you said. Guess I was just a little dissappointed and looking to pick on something . At least we can go prone in this version.
But to my other point ,which also is not huge deal, but don't you guys think the controller should jolt/vibrate when you get shot ? I can remember other games sneaking around thinking no one sees me then BAM I get that little jolt from my controller that makes my whole body kinda jump and I'm dead.

Now, I don't play Call of Duty, but I thought this was silly.

                Re: Battlefield 3

On Wednesday, I couldn't wait until this came out. Then the poor outcome of the playoffs came to be, and I subbed on Thursday and Friday as well, so I completely forgot about it. So I just downloaded it last night.

First off, I'm ecstatic that they have a Legacy stick control scheme! What a godsend for this franchise. However, I couldn't find a control scheme that allowed you to aim down the sight with L2 and fire with R2 on PS3. That was kind of annoying.

On the PS3, this game is not the visual stunner that the PC videos showed. I knew it wouldn't be, but it's like an eyesore in comparison. I'm not saying these graphics are bad, but the jagged edges and 30 FPS are a bit unnerving to look at when you know what the PC version can do.

So far, I absolutely suck at this game. I can't pinpoint the one thing that's causing it, though. One thing for sure is that, I don't know if you all can understand where I'm coming from with this, but the look acceleration is cranked up way too high, and there isn't a way to adjust it. Yes, you can change look speed, but I'm referring to the acceleration of it. You would have to be incredibly fine to make your adjustments, kind of like KillZone 3. The other problem is there seems to be a bit of a delay when prompting to do things (like input lag, but not from my TV). I can't explain it, but that's kind of the cause of me trying to re-adjust on aiming at a player, and not getting a chance to do so.

And finally, this game is just way too buggy. I understand this is a beta, so I really hope they clean it up. I have my crosshairs disappear for ten minutes at a time, my screen will be blurry and tinted a heavy blue when I re-spawn on occasion grenades don't seem to cook (though that might be designer's intent), I can't always complete the jump over ledges and rails despite the animation that kicks in, I set up in a prone position through the ground every so often, no controller vibration when I get hit so it's tough to detect this... it just comes out looking like a mess.

For the time being, I'm glad that I haven't pre-ordered it. I think the visuals are turning me off compared to what COD will offer on PS3, despite the good things there are to say about this game. Though, I can't enjoy it when I'm continuously dying, as I'm frustrated about some of the things that are preventing me from doing well. I'll give it more playing time, and hopefully I can come around to liking it more (or killing people more, for that matter).

I've kind of gotten used to the flow of the game, but something does feel "off". I played a bunch of BC2, and that, while clunky at times, seemed to move at a decent clip. Something about the beta feels bogged down to me, maybe the controls. When the game does work, it's a great experience.

The best advice I can give you is hide, hide, and hide some more. I'm usually not one to put up a tent and start camping, but you'll get picked off incredibly quickly if you run out into the open.

Yeah, I guess the difference between a game like this and a game like COD is the level design. COD doesn't have much open-range gameplay, so the "run and gun" approach is more welcomed.

I'm not saying I'm only that kind of gamer, though. I love playing SOCOM by being in the background, and being stealthy. Maybe it's the transition from 3PS to FPS for a game that permits a lot of long range shooting and cover is kind of difficult for me.

Anyway, this morning I played more BF3 and was just as bad. Then I popped in MW2 and, not only did I put up > 2:1 scores, but the 60 FPS is such an attraction for me (as well as the clean look due to AA). I don't know if I can ever make the switch from COD anyway, unless other developers step up in those visual departments.

                      Re: Battlefield 3

People need to separate themselves from the whole K/D ratio. It is meaningless... it is about scoring for being a good squad member. That is the majority of your leveling up.

K/D is just there to appease that crowd for their own self gratification, you can have 3 kills and 12 deaths, and still lead the round with 4200 points. And 12 kills 3 deaths and be at the bottom of the list.

Once you forget about the whole K/D thing, you are better off playing.

And I will take the 30FPS and much better graphics, sound and overall ambiance over the 60FPS sub 720p Quake 3 engine of 8 years ago. Sure it has less "jaggs", but it also looks like mud. And the "jaggies" become oblivious after a while when playing... and I bounce between PC at 4xAA 1920x1080 and PS3 and still does not bother me. But that is me personally.

Thanks for the heads up, buddy. I'm not sure if I'd prefer to save $16 with the NewEgg deal or buy it from Amazon and receive the game on release day.

You must be referring to me. I, of all people, should not be included as one of these people. In SOCOM, KillZone, COD, etc. I am team player all around (whenever they allow for team-like strategies).

I just mean that I'm not competing correctly in this game at all. It's like I'm a shooting guard in basketball, but I was stuck to play catcher for baseball. Nothing is firing whatsoever. I have no feel for this game whatsoever.

I won't. The PC version of this game? I'll probably take it even if I ran it on 30 FPS (maybe). But the game I'm playing on my PS3 does not look like any of the videos I have been watching, and I am unfortunately ridiculously underwhelmed, because I was planning on buying this game day one.

No Blzer, I am not "referring to you", I would have quoted you if I was. I do not beat around the bush on here. If I was to directly quote someone, I will do so. I am speaking in general because people think they "stink" because they have low K/D ratios, when it is other factors, like healing, ammo supply, spotting, rezzing, kill assists, etc that really matter.

Although you did mention putting in CoD and getting 2>1 scores... but anyhow.

This game is not about K/D. At all. And the sooner people realize that, the better off they will be playing. Let the K/D junkies do their thing. Not going to change that, what will separate the men from the boys though is a good working squad getting the objectives done. Since this series revolves around objective based gameplay.

When final hits, there will be the DM servers for those junkies to go play in, since they will not accomplish anything on the Rush servers, etc. Since their Win/Loss ratio, what really counts, will be through the roof in the negative.

And no need to be condescending about the CoD graphics thing. To each their own.

I don't recall being snippy about the COD graphics.

Not even really sure what we're "arguing" about here. I was just leaving in some points about this game's control not quite feeling right for me, and it left a bad taste in my mouth that I felt like I couldn't handle a thing that I was doing. A lot of it actually had to do with the graphics.

The K/D thing I referred to was just a matter of me saying that I was actually able to handle similar situations, since they are both FPS games. I wasn't really playing much differently in terms of how to fire a weapon on a player, which requires aiming and shooting. It just feels way, way off on BF (which is probably the only game it does feel off for me, and I play games with right-stick turning like KZ and SOCOM that feel less off for me).

What I find funny is when I focus on being more of a team player, the kills come around too. Last night I went like 41-23 give or take a few kills and deaths, but had 2,000+ more points than anyone else because of constant heals, revives, handing out ammo, spotting, and suppression assists.

I also love having those games where I have single digit kills and deaths, but am 2nd or 3rd in the whole match with 4-5k points.
