I play so much better when I can hear what's going on. Some of my best rounds have been with OSers and we weren't even wearing a headset, we were just playing great as a team and everyone was spotting people.

There were no issues with ammo, health, etc. and we covered all the entry points very well without saying a word.
I love BF3's audio, and love playing it using my 7.1 system, but if my wife's trying to game too I'll go to a surround headset and it works really well.

I've owned TBs and I have a new set of Astro A40's with the Mixamp. Here's the headset thread, and I'll post my review from the thread below here: http://www.operationsports.com/forum...adsets-24.html

    My review from the thread:

Guys, I got my Astro A40 wired set w/Mixamp last Wednesday. Here are some thoughts on it.

Order process went fine overall. I was having issues trying to order from their site so ordered from their ebay store. I wanted to up the shipping to Blue instead of Ground, but no biggie. Still got them before Thanksgiving weekend.

Packaging is really cool. A sleeve covers a fold out box that holds everything, comes with quality wires...everything is nice quality. The headset is very well constructed and durable. Fits quite comfortably too on my big ol' noggin. The Mixamp is beautifully simple and high quality construction.

Soundwise, the rig is great. To compare it to the TB Earforce Deltas/XP500's, the TB seems a little brighter sounding, almost hyper-high end clarity which is good for shooters especially. The TB's have decent bass presence, but due to wireless they can distort and compress just a bit during explosions or bass-heavy signals. Also, again a wireless thing, they have a bit of static here and there, and can cut out when our son is online on his pc.

The A40's seem a little smoother to my ears; I kinda missed the TB's high-end openess, but the Astros smoothly extend down to the bass very well. These seem 'meatier' and stronger-sounding, and are not fatiguing after hours of use. Zero static, zero cut-out due to the wired connection. Also, no battery concerns

The mic is sensitive but works very well. The thing is so sensitive I had it swung all the way up, so it's pointing at the ceiling, parallel to the headband, and I forgot it was still on. I was put into a new lobby in MW3 and made the comment aloud to my wife in the room (in a low voice) "Mann...the matchmaking still sucks. The whole other team is prestigers" to which I immediately heard in my ear "Yeah, matchmaking still sucks but whatcha goin do?"

Another neat feature is you can use any headset through the Mixamp (I'll have to try my Bose headphones one night), though you won't be mic'd. Dolby Headphones works really well on both the A40 Mixamp and the TB Deltas/XP500's. It's not as ideal for localization as a real 5.1/7.1 audio system is, but it's effective and you can play it loud without disturbing others or hearing the whirr of your 360. Another plus is that I can seem to hear enemies approaching better using these headsets.

Overall, the A40 system is great. Spendy? Indeed...but I was happy to find it's worth the money. Not plasticy or cheap in any sense, very good performance, looks cool, comfortable, zero performance shortfalls, plus the cup covers are magnetic and you can bling out with custom covers if that's your thing.

I'm currently unlocking the assault class scopes and I finished unlocking everything for the M416. Right now I'm working on the AEK-971 and my god....that weapon is a beast!

          Nice going!

I don't care for scopes on my M249, but I do have the red-dot sight on it. I just don't care for magnification because it gets too weird in a quick encounter firefight for me.

I play support 90% of the time, but I must continue to work on assault class so I can unlock the grenade launcher, which I want badly for smoke grenades as Mike's got me all stoked for those.

How long to unlock smoke grenades on I get launcher, or does it comes with them?

            Re: Battlefield 3

The multi-level environments in the new maps really makes you think twice about where you move because a sniper may have that road covered. With multiple flank routes it gets really chaotic.

The destruction was been improved compared to the other maps even though some buildings are still indestructible. I was in a Bradley with sensors and I notice a red tick along with two team mates outside my vehicle. The enemy was in the upper floor of a building on the street below us. Basically, the enemy was parallel to our position but a wall was blocking. I destroyed the entire upper floor of the building leaving the sniper exposed to a Bradley and two support class soldiers. He turned towards us just in time to see us shoot. That's the destruction that I love.

Finally, its nice to go back to Wake.

I use the M249 exclusively and don't really use scopes either. I will put one on occasionally for some of the maps that have some straight open distance to them. I love using that gun and have about 1,600 kills with it and just made it level 30 basically using just one gun, lol.

At 45 you get the Colonel Eagle. From there it goes 1, 2, 3... I don't know when you get the gold.

Each rank has an associated level within it. Like Level 1 Staff Sgt (Level18), Level 2 Staff sgt and so on. After level 3, you rank to the next. i.e. Go to 19

This one has become my favorite/most used bluetooth headset...

I use it with my 7.1 system, unless it's real late at night, then I use my Sony 5.1 headset.

I also have both versions of the Sony bluetooth headsets too (the newer one being the better of the two IMO) and both work well.

Ok or all you 360/pc heads who don't have the expansion pack yet or havent played battlefield 2, conquest assault is nothing like rush like some of you are saying. It still is kind of like the current conquest, but the Russians starts out with every capture point and to offset that, the Americans start with a lot more tickets. As the Russians you have no deployment base and can only spawn on squad or the capture points. This puts a heavy emphasis on the defense as if the Americans capture every point it's pretty much done. It's a matter of hide and seek to eliminate the last person/squad. The Americans have to try to capture the points to slow down the ticket bleeding and work their way to eventually capture them all. The Russians are able to take back the points too so you will still have to defend some. Also, if one the attackers are dominant thr match wouldn't drag out. It could be over within 5 minutes. The game mode puts a much larger emphasis on teamplay than any other mode offered.

I shouldn't say capture them all, but get the majority and hang on for the win.

The new maps are a little overwhelming for me, right now..

I've played Gulf and now Wake..

I'm still getting the feel for them, but it would be nice to give it a go with some OSers.
