Can you Pc vets give me a quick rundown on steam?

I think I read you need a steam account to play the game on Pc for DRM reasons. Steam is free to signup for, right?

      Yes.

Also if you already bought Skyrim on Steam, they give you a preload option to download the game from now, although it won't unlock until Friday.

        Yes...Steam is free.
It's a great way to download and play your games.(and when they have sales or you just find a nice little cheap game...AWESOME!)
It's nice not having to DVD search when you want to switch up games.
If you need to re-download...your Steam account keeps track of it, so you don't have to worry about finding a code or re-buying the game.
I resisted using Steam for a while.
        Silly me.:o

Apparently for the 360, there is a "texture" bug. If you install it to the HDD, you actually get lower textures than if you just popped the disk in. If FlightWhite and jrdider99 are around, could one of you test this?

I'm checking on this now. I installed the game to my HD as soon as I got it, so that's the only way I've ever seen it look. I'll delete the install and fire it up and see how it looks.

OK, so I deleted the game from my HD and running it straight from the disc seems to help improve some of textures a little bit. The downside is that load times are significantly slowed by running the game from the disc instead of the HD. To each his own, but I'll take super-quick load times over a tiny graphics boost any day. Besides, I think the game looks fine, even without any "missing" textures.

Sounds like what I'll do, thanks for taking the time. If you can answer it, have an armor question..

I won't be able to build my PC until after Christmas and there is no way my current one will run this on anything but the lowest settings. I'm contemplating saying "F it" and getting it now anyway (either for a console or playing it on low on my current PC).

I thought I could hold out, but I am seriously lacking self-control...lol. Ironically, January seems so much farther away than it did a month ago, now that the game is just around the corner.

The temptation to pre-load this on Steam is strong. Between this, Uncharted 3 (which I'm still going thru) and Batman: Arkham City finally coming out for the PC in 2 weeks, there's just not enough time! Of course I can just blow the money and get both right away.

                              Aggghhhhh.
