    Re: Darksiders II

Started playing this game this morning. The game has literally froze twice within the first 5 minutes. First time was before I even reached the first set of enemies and the second was during the fight with the first set of enemies.

Any tips for stopping this game from freezing?

    I'm on the 360.

Do you have the game installed to the hard drive? Maybe you could try clearing the cache on the hardrive if installing it doesn't help. You could also try playing the game, without being connected to Xbox Live, as I have heard of that helping with other games. Not sure what else to suggest outside of those things, since I haven't experienced any freezing myself.

I've tried all those things and still alot of freezing. Maybe I just got a bad copy. Thinking about returning it for another copy.

          Re: Darksiders II

Finished first playthrough, except for some side-quests and collectibles to knock out before starting a New Game+. The second half of DS2 feels a bit rushed, and I definitely liked the story of the first game much more. There's some interesting characters and again, it's all well presented, but it didn't actually move the narrative forward. We knew it was going to run parallel to the events of DS1, but give us something - it all felt pretty meaningless with very little payoff. I did like the teaser scene after the credits though, and hopefully, we get another Darksiders to follow up on that and the awesome ending of DS1.

Good game overall. Reflecting back on DS1 and DS2, I think they both have their strengths and weaknesses: I think DS1 has the better story, dungeon design, puzzles, bosses required more strategy, and it's more polished technically, while DS2 has better combat, art, music, NPC interations, more content, skill trees...and loot!

Wow, that is some impressive stuff there. Defiantly shows what the combat engine is capable of.

Ok so I just finished Earth and I have to wonder what the heck the devs were thinking with this section. Felt like a completely different game in that section, basically played like subpar third person shooter. I actually dropped the gun about halfway through to see if I could get through with the normal style of combat, but it quickly became apparent that would be a major pain on Apocalyptic.

At least that section was short, it did take the game down a slight notch though. It's still one of my top 3 favorite games of the year so far, but the design for that section was downright puzzling.

Finally diving into this... as with the last one, I just absolutely love the style of this game. The acting, music, sound, graphics; everything just completely pulls me in.

Oh, and just because it needs to be said... the platforming is great; VERY fluid, easy to use, and much improved over the last game.

Platinum obtained. The Crucible becomes laughable when your weapons have a 90+% chance to crit, 250+% crit damage, 30% health and wrath steal per hit.

                      Re: Darksiders II

Just finished this up. Took me about 45 hours to complete the game 100%. Overall, with the exception of the Earth level, I thoroughly enjoyed myself throughout.

                      Positives
                      - Combat was great, significant improvement from the first game. Once I got the hang of it I was able to rack up some massive combos. The system is very flexible, it's possible to button mash, but the depth is there for better players who want to rack up combos.
                      - Loved the added element of loot. I am a sucker for loot in games, in general
-Boss design was pretty good, for the most part. I will say that the Last boss was too easy, second to last boss was much harder.
-Art design and art direction were just brilliant. Big step up from the first game in this department. Some of the best art design I have ever seen in any game. Can't say enough about it, it caused my jaw to drop a couple of times.
                      - Voice acting and soundtrack was top notch. Death voice actor in particular was really good.
-Really liked Death as a character, I enjoyed his sense of humor in particular.
-Platforming was well done and was a nice change of pace
-Game was relatively bug free for me. Had one freezes in 45 hours of gameplay, but that was it.

                      Negatives
                      - Obviously the Earth section, luckily it was short.
                      - Quests were a little to fetch oriented
                      - Story wasn't quite as good as the first Darksiders. I didn't think it was terrible or anything, but the pacing was a bit off and I think being a prequel/running parallel may have limited the game story-wise.

                      Somewhat Mixed
                      - Dungeon design was little inconsistent. Some of them were brilliant, there were some designs however, that could have been better.
                      - Some of the puzzles earlier in the game were too easy. There were some very clever ones late in the game however, after Death acquired phasewalker.
                      - I enjoyed the collectibles initially, as I enjoyed being rewarded for exploring. The issue for me was having to go back and finish finding the ones I missed before I completed the game. I used a guide video I found on Youtube to find the ones I missed, but it was pain the butt since I didn't remember which ones I had already found.

Like I said I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think it is a superior game to the first in most areas, story being the only significant exception IMO. It's my personal GOTY, at this point. I would give it a 8.9/10. Would of easily been a 9+ for me without the Earth section, and with a slightly stronger story. I really hope we see more games in the franchise, really impressive what Vigil has done so far. I would interested in a coop game in the future, provided it retains all the elements of the franchise (platforming, puzzles, etc.).

Can't help but notice the inactivity in this thread. If this thread is an indication, I am not sure the prospects of another Darksiders game look too good. Quite frankly I am little confused, why this game is being somewhat overlooked, particularly since it was released during a time where barely anything else was out. If anybody is hesitant picking it up at full price, I can defiantly say that it is a game worth the full $60.

Based on THQ's comments, the prospects of another Darksiders wasn't looking good even before release. It's sold more than Sleeping Dogs to date, yet that thread has had way more activity. People just have different tastes and Sleeping Dogs seems to be the more appealing game on OS, and it coming out the same day overshadowed DSII.

Yeah, just OS though. I haven't checked the threads in about a week, but I remember the Darksiders OT on GAF being more active than Sleeping Dogs.

Love the Darksiders series. Didn't realize until a couple of weeks back they were in Austin. Would've been banging on the devs doors had I known it. Any ideas on what character(s) they'll be doing next?
