Re: Darksiders II
A couple random thoughts after another 1 1/2 hours playing...
1) I'm at nearly 5 hours of total play time and am still working on finishing the first mission. The dungeons are just so big and there are so many places to explore that it's nearly impossible to rush through it ...
2) Riding and attacking while riding your horse is cool, but there's a quick travel option for those who just want to get where they're going. You'll miss out on a lot of loot this way, though ...
3) Platforming, which at this point has probably been about 75 percent of the game, feels pretty good but could be a little more precise. There's a lot of running along walls and jumping between walls while running and there have been sections I've had to repeat several times because of missed jumps, etc. Luckily dying restarts you in the same room you died in, so there's no backtracking ...
4) After getting my *** kicked by that giant lizard thing early on, I've been unstoppable since I reached Level 3. Some bigger enemies still require a bit of strategy, but now that my powers have increased and I've gained access to better weapons and armor, I feel like nothing can touch me ...
5) I'm really liking the layouts of the dungeons. There are designed with plenty of hidden areas to discover and very little backtracking ...
6) For those interested, there's only one person on the leaderboard who has finished the game. His time to finish was just under 27 HOURS!!!Comment

Re: Darksiders II
But what I've played so far has been really well paced with a nice mix of fighting, platforming and story scenes. Hopefully the story remains strong (it is off to a good start) and doesn't get unnecessarily drawn out just to make the game longer.Comment

Re: Darksiders II
Maybe so. I hadn't heard anything about the length, so I was surprised at that number, especially for a game of this type.

Re: Darksiders II
I haven't had to do much puzzle solving. The only one that really stands out involved some big boulders I had to roll around into the proper holes in order to open a door. Mostly the early dungeons have involved lots of platforming and searching for keys that open locked doors.
I'm really liking the balance so far between platforming and combat. There have only been a couple of enemy types, with some variants on each, but considering I've only explored one area that doesn't really surprise me. I'm hoping the combat difficulty ramps up soon as I think I'm about to complete my first quest and (hopefully) move on to a new part of the map.
I know I've said it before, but I'm absolutely loving the music and environments. While the game world isn't as detailed as other recent releases, there are no loading screens to spoil the immersion (only a split-second pause on occasion when you enter a new area). And the way the music perfectly compliments the world you're in. It's very Zelda-like in that regard.
EDIT: One more thing about loading screens -- when the game boots up to the main menu, you'll see Death standing in the exact spot where you left him when you saved your game. When you continue your game, the menu disappears and you're instantly back in your game with no loading screen. It's a little thing, but neat nonetheless.Comment

Re: Darksiders II
Arena Mode and New Game+ functionality
Today I would like to officially announce two additions within Darksiders II that will round off our new announcements. Let me introduce you to our Arena Survival Mode along with our New Game+ functionality.
The game features a combat arena which will provide the ultimate challenge for Darksiders II players. After completing five of the mode’s 100 unique waves, gamers will be given the option of taking a prize or continuing for another five waves for a chance at even better items. However, if they fall in combat they will leave with nothing. Only the most skilled players will have what it takes to best all 100 waves and claim the greatest prizes.
In addition to this mode, Darksiders II will feature a New Game+ mode which will allow players to carry over their Death for a new game retaining all of their skills and equipment.
Jim Huntley, Vice President of Global Brand Marketing commented: “The Arena Challenge Mode and the New Game+ function are the perfect way to continue building the ultimate Death even after finishing the main game. This upgraded and customized character can then be carried over into the upcoming DLC campaign missions.”
More Crucible info:
- Fight increasingly harder waves.
- Every 5 waves cleared you are given a choice: Continue | Loot (Once selected, this resets your progress)
- Every 25 waves cleared (in a row) you unlock a "Checkpoint" of sorts.
- When you return, you can start from the beginning or start from an unlocked checkpoint.
- Loot from the "Loot" option is generated based on total waves completed - the more waves completed, the more loot you get!
- Dying in combat results in NO loot. You could clear 48 waves, die on wave 49, and you will get NOTHING.
- There are unique Crucible-only rewards.
- Loot from The Crucible is completely usable in the story/campaign and vice versa.
- Once unlocked, you can access The Crucible while in Story mode (very easily!).
- There are leaderboard stats for The Crucible.
- Dying in The Crucible in Nightmare Mode = Combat Death (the worst kind).
As a side note, something I mentioned before, this mode was made as a direct response to fans. We wanted to make sure players had an area to practice combat, test out builds, and also have even more challenges once they've beaten the game once, twice, 10 times!Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Darksiders II
From what I understand you will find everything from run of the mill generic type weapons to unique weapons, including possessed weapons. Apparently possessed weapons can be made more powerful using the more generic weapons as an input.
That is basically what I gather from reading previews/watching videos. Maybe JRider could add some more firsthand insight.Last edited by mgoblue678; 08-07-2012, 04:04 AM.My Teams

Re: Darksiders II
Your primary weapon is always a scythe and your secondary weapons consist of things like hammers, maces, arm blades, axes, glaives, claws, etc. There are four different armor slots -- upper body, torso, hands and feet -- and multiple options within each category, i.e. you can choose armor, a harness or a cover for your torso. Different armor types are reflected visually on Death.
Both weapons and armor come in many varieties -- regular, those that boost (or regenerate) your health and resistences, those that boost your wrath and those that boost your strength and other stats. I don't have a game manual so I'm not sure what the specific types are, but that gives you an idea of what they do.
Weapons also have unique abilities, whether it's dealing ice or fire damage or giving Death health with each hit.
I've found that the boosts associated with your various items are pretty powerful. For example, through the bonuses from my armor and weapons, my health regen was 99 and my scythe was giving me 38 health points for every kill, which allowed me to pretty much charge headlong into any battle without fear of dying because I'm constantly healing myself. Of course, then I ran into the toughest boss fight yet and barely survived with just a sliver of health remaining.
As far as potions, there are ones for health and ones for wrath. That's all I've seen so far. There are also talismans that grant stat bonuses.
Every time of weapon and armor can be found in the numerous chests scattered about or picked up from fallen enemies, though there are one-of-a-kind items that are looted from bosses or hidden in dungeons.
Not sure if that helps clear anything up, but if it doesn't just let me know and I'll try again.Comment

Know how the first was a crappy Zelda knock off?
Well now it's a crappy Prince of Persia knock off with action RPG elements. Better than the first one but
My lingering question of how you die in the game hasn't been answered,I thought there'd be something in the story explaining it. Also Death having been banished...uhh...who takes over for him? Peter Griffin? If you sent Death away how can there be death?
Graphics are poor. Camera is out and out awful. Controls suck. Voice acting good, particularly Death. Platforming. I don't think anyone told them it was 2012.
I took the code thingy without reading it. "Argul's Tomb will be available later in 2012 and we will announce the availability on darksiders.com/tomb
This THQ code can only be redeemed at Darksiders.com/tomb - this THQ code is NOT redeemable on Xbox LIVE"
So I have one to give away if someone is buying used/waiting for a price drop.Comment
