    Interview

How will the items trading amongst players work? Can you only trade with players who are actively online at that moment? Or will there be some sort of auction house to place items in to be traded when others offer some sort of minimum bid or items value?

We have an interesting mechanic in place which allows players to trade items with their friends. This means if you are building a primarily magic based character you can help your melee focused friends with any great items you find and don’t need. There won’t be an auction-house system to sell these items.

Most likely a first day buy for me, since nothing else I am interested in is coming out anytime soon.

            Re: Darksiders II

Vigil: If Darksiders 2 sells 4-5 mil copies, Jason will probably let us make a sequel

Vigil Games would consider reducing the size and scope of a third Darksiders game if it led to "more detail in the world", Darksiders II's lead designer Haydn Dalton has told VideoGamer.com.

"The only people who can really shape if we do [another] Darksiders or not is basically the public," Dalton told VideoGamer.com during a recent Darksiders II press trip.

"If we come out and it does really well then I think it's really compelling; we can't not come out and maybe do something else in the Darksiders franchise.

"If Jason's [Rubin, President, THQ] sat there and we go and sell 4 or 5 million units, I'm pretty sure he won't say, 'Let's go and do something different now'. Maybe what he might do is turn around and say, 'We'll do another Darksiders game, but we'll try and reduce the scope so that we can make it even higher polished'. Because our scope is huge. Maybe he says, 'Bring the scope down a little bit, we'll still do another game but it's a lot more focused'. That's not such a bad thing to do either."

Darksiders II's world is said to be considerably larger than the first game. According to one report, each of the four game's zones are equivalent in size to the entirety of the first game.

But Dalton says that the gameplay within those areas is more important than the size of the world, and the pay-off for reducing the scope of a third game could be beneficial to the overall experience.

"It depends on how much the reduction of the scope is, right? We've done a huge world in this one, but [though] reducing the size of the world might be seen as a big impact from a player point of view, you know what, we might do a lot more interaction within the world if the world was smaller.

This is great news, another studio that will possibly meet its fate. This gen has gotten out of control with too many studios being closed down. No way I can see this selling 4-5 million.

Ugh. I hope it does well. I've always wanted to see four games, one for each horseman.

                Vigil dev:

Let me just make this clear, Jason or THQ, have not set a ridiculous high target of 4-5 million units to sell..because, well, that's just insane. Our goal as developers is to make the most fun games. Publishers have to make money with commercially viable product. It's not rocket science. If Darksiders II comes out, more than covers it's costs and is considered a great success by the Publishers, it makes a very compelling reason to do something else with that franchise.

                Simple as that.

Anyways, Vigil is hiring devs with FPS experience. That's just what we need Rubin, another FPS. Good luck standing out and breaking even in that oversaturated genre. Vigil will be fine though. Them, Volition, and Relic is all THQ has to save their asses, and I'm confident another publisher would swoop Vigil up. Darksiders sold 1.2M, 2M is a realistic goal for Darksiders II. If it doesn't sell at least that, then sadly, I don't think we see another Darksiders.

                      Re: Darksiders II

                      I need this game now.

Lead combat designer on DSII combat:

As I mentioned on the official forums, we all love Bayonetta/DMC at Vigil. One of my personal goals was to recreate the feeling of freedom you get in those games in regards to combo creation but to make sure the game still felt like Darksiders. I'm proud of the end result and I'm very interested to see what the fans have to say.
                      Think about this:

3 Hit Basic Scythe Combo, cancel to Crossover Heavy (Cyclone), Crossover Heavy Special (Hilt Strike), back to Scythe Ender, cancel the ender in the middle with a Flip Kick, Air Dash to the ground (Meteor Strike), Dash Scythe (Harvester Revenge), cancel into Crossover Heavy again, cancel that into Charge Hammer Strike, after Charge Strike hits, backdash, Deathgrip the enemy towards you, juggle with basic Scythe 1-hit, Flip Kick, Aerial 2 Hit Scythe Combo followed by Air Delay Chain (Hellraiser - Reaper appears and lifts opponent into the air even more!), follow-up with 3-hit Air Scythe Combo ending in slamdown, cancel into Flip Saw, land, Teleport Slash through the enemy, Deathgrip again, jump Air Scythe 1-hit, chain to Air Hammer Fall (big slam that brings both you and enemy to ground), upon landing, Just-Frame button press to perform the Widowmaker (mega spinning Heavy Strike), canceled into another Just-Frame button press to perform the Rift Breaker follow up.

Oh... and you'll be doing all that on the first day! Just remember that you don't have to do ANY of that to be able to play and enjoy the combat. But the cool part is... YOU CAN!
you can launch an enemy, cancel into Despair, run the enemy over, jump off Despair, perform an aerial slam down, and continue your combo. It's not easy, it's not standard combat, but it's definitely possible. Just make sure you are outdoors!
You can absolutely weave your Wrath abilities into your combos.
Dashing (first and second) extend the time in which you have to combo the next hit. You can actually hit, then dash, then dash again, then hit, and it will still count as a combo. We made this part lenient because dodging is a huge part of combat this time.

Also, if you Dash/Evade, and hit a button while holding forward, you will do the designated Dash move. But, if you go neutral on the stick immediately after the Dash/Evade, you will instead do the normal attack (as if you were just pressing X or Y while neutral). We did this so you can dash and hit X or Y at ANY POINT during the dash (from the first frame to the last) and still get your Dash-specific move out, while still having access to your basic attacks if you DON'T want to use the dash attack.

In addition, using the Buckler (one of the Melee weapons), you can charge-cancel almost any move. While you can do this with ANY weapon (Heavy or Melee), the Buckler serves your intent better because of its charge functionality.

Canceling with a Gear item also works. Since Deathgrip recovers the moment the hand closes (on whiff), or retracts (on hit), you can use it to cancel out of moves. That being said, unless you are actually gripping an enemy, it's more beneficial to just dodge/evade.

There aren't many moves in the game that can't be evade-cancelled (or charge cancelled, or gear cancelled, or Wrath cancelled, or Reaper cancelled, or even horse-cancelled!) so finding ways to link things together in unique ways is really open-ended. One of my absolute favorite starters in the game is Scythe > Heavy Crossover (Cyclone) because it skips the initial windup of the first Heavy Strike and goes right into a Heavy 360 Strike. You can also do Scythe x2 - Heavy Crossover, or Scythe x3 - Crossover, or any of the delay Scythe chains into Crossover. Heck, you can even do the Heavy Crossover directly after the Dash Scythe (Harvester Revenge - the one in videos where Death tosses his Scythe in front of his body and follows it).

You can do things as basic as Dash Scythe (Harvester Revenge) - Cyclone - Dash Cancel Harvester Revenge - Cyclone... (repeat...)

... to Scythe x3 - Cyclone - Flip Kick Cancel (both you and enemy go into air), Meteor Strike (airdash down to the ground), juggle with basic Scythe x1 - Dash Cancel into Harvester Revenge - Cyclone - Hilt Strike (Y after Cyclone), Dual Upper (focus + back + X) to launch the enemy overhead behind Death - Dash Cancel forward (AWAY from enemy), Deathgrip them back to you, normal jump (to meet them in the air), X,X,X (to slam them back to the ground - another Scythe x1 - Dash Cancel into Painbringer (Dash Heavy) which bounces them off the ground, full Scythe Combo (to the knockback finisher) - cancel the recovery into Teleport Slash (to both hit AND get close again), to Execute.

The system is pretty free-form so while we don't have the block button from Darksiders (or Crossblade Cancelling), you should have no problem making Death look good!

Oh hell yes. Still upset about no Bayonetta 2 being planned, but this will do.

I should probably play through Darksiders soon first though. I've had it for a year and a half and its still sitting in its shrinkwrap.

Love Bayonetta. It may just be favorite game this generation. It's definitely up there. If the PS3 port was better I would platinum it.

                            Introducing Darksiders II Tomes

As we get closer to the launch of Darksiders II, we will be revealing a few special features within the game here on Darksiders.com. Today we would like to introduce the functionality of the Tome system.

The Tomes are Darksiders II in-game emailing system. You can send your friends messages, and also attach up to 4 pieces of armor or weapons to each mail to trade or share items. When you attach an item to a message, it’s removed from your game and delivered to theirs.

The Tome system is also how you retrieve pre-order items and other loot awarded with in-game codes, as well as how you’re alerted to special areas now being accessible to you within Darksiders II.

With Darksiders II just around the corner we wanted to reward our loyal community who has supported Vigil Games and THQ since the day Darksiders was announced. So today we would like to announce 2 awesome in-game unlocks within Darksiders II for our community who have completed or played Darksiders.

Players who played the first Darksiders will unlock the Pauldron of the Horsemen in Darksiders II. This level 5 legendary armor piece boosts all Death’s stats as well as his critical damage. Gamers who have finished the game on any difficulty will also earn a level 1 legendary scythe called the Chaos Fang which will boost Death’s damage and critical damage.

The in-game item unlocks are based on Achievements you have unlocked. So if you haven’t completed Darksiders you might want to pull your disk out or download it directly from Xbox Live, PSN or on Steam to get ready for Darksiders II.
