Goh, you complain every game you play. That's fine. But do not come in here and ruin the thread because you are watching videos of it. This is not a watch and see game. You need to play it to feel the true greatness.

Actually I just asked a plot related question (that doesn't even seem to be answered in game) and someone else decided to get into something else and I was left to defend my opinion which was attacked once again because it's not the popular one.

I also don't need to play it to notice some of the things wrong with it.

Your opinion is unpopular because you have not played the game to experience the storyline or the gameplay? It's like not reading a book or watching a movie, but can assume and still give an opinion cause you caught bits and pieces on youtube, tv, etc.. This is what you are doing. Then you hate on so much dude that people call you out on just a single fart.

How exactly do you upgrade your shiv? I'm wondering if the game does it automatically or if I've already done it somehow? I'm not sure.

I checked the workbench last night and saw nothing. And when I hit select I think the only option I have is to create new ones.

Can anyone describe the process so I can know for sure?

Shivs are upgraded through finding training manuals. So is first aid, melee, etc...

Pretty sure the shiv upgrade was a training manual you find lying around early in the game. Granted, i'm only 50% of the way in, so there may be more upgrades. But I think I recall picking up a training manual for strengthening shiv's that allowed 2 used per shiv.

On another note. Last night, I played through:

The hotel. Oh. My. God. I was scared out of my mind working my way through the basement after falling down the elevator shaft. I almost crapped my pants after I started the generator and the bloater came around the corner. I wound up running up a floor and holing myself up by the door with the keycard and just taking the infected out one by one. The bloater took a molotov cocktail and basically all of my revolver ammunition to kill. I picked the rest off one by one by luring them away from each other.

This game is absolutely insane. Can not WAIT to get some more time in tonight. I enjoy the quieter moments with Joel and Ellie as much as I do the action packed areas. I actually prefer them. You should have seen the grin on my face the first time Ellie whistled.

I'm 30% in and I don't think I've found any training manuals and I have looked high and low to make sure I don't miss anything. Matter of fact I don't think I can upgrade any weapon .... I did come across a table that said something about updating weapons. Is that where I was supposed to update? I keep finding those random pieces of weapons I guess?

Absolutely amazing game,and HAS to be considered game of the generation for the PS3.
I honestly cannot think of another game (maybe UC2) that would rival this game.

Once you get the training manuals,I believe that particular weapon or skill will be automatically updated.
The ones I have so far are...

I know there's one or 2 more,but damn if I can remember them atm.

Th tool benches will obviously give you the option to upgrade certain aspects of your weapon...recoil,fire rate and so on....providing you have the proper tool level.

Yes. When you find a work bench you can upgrade your weapons.

Took me 14 hrs and 16 min. What a game. Defiantly GOTY for me.
Ending was a lot different then what i was expecting. Joel lost him mind and I think Ellie knew what he did but needed him to lie to her to keep going.

Naughty Dog just continues to make great game after great game. I cannot wait for their next game.

Been playing this today while waiting for Marvel Heros to come back up. Boy it sure is slow going after coming from an action RPG. Beautiful looking game.

For what its worth I found and played a copy in a redbox near me (NJ). So they are out there.
