Finished the game today and what a wild ride it was, it was by far, the most attached Ive been to a video game Ive ever played and was just well done on every level. It took me roughly 22-23 hours to finish but I REALLY searched for the collectibles and outside of missing 2 firefly pendants I got everything else it appears. I cant praise the game enough, it was just a beautiful game to play coupled with a great story that was paced perfectly and showed the evolution of Joel and Ellie in a very believable way while taking its time in doing so, just a phenomenal game.

Wow!! Just finished the game. Unreal. I don't think I've ever been so attached to characters in a game or game in general.
Naughty Dog did one helluva job on this one!Comment

Thinking of picking up this game later today. Is it worth it? Honestly based on the three Uncharted games alone I have little doubt it is, but I don't know too much about the game itself. Is the single-player campaign the extent of it?
Also not looking for spoilers for obvious reasons haha!Comment

The best SP campaign I've ever played and I'm only half way through. MP is a different kind of beast.

Re: The Last of Us (PS3)
Just take a look through this thread, this game was amazing in every way possible.
The MP,while bare bones right now,is very addictive.
I have not played a game this gen that had the emotional ties I felt with these characters (maybe RDR),you really feel the desperation as well as the innocence.
Absolutely amazing experience from beginning to end....so much so in fact, that I started another playthrough on survivor difficulty yesterday.People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.“I believe the game is designed to reward the ones who hit the hardest – If you can’t take it, you shouldn’t play!” Jack Lambert“Quarterbacks should wear dresses.” Jack LambertComment

Re: The Last of Us (PS3)
I see some ending discussion going on. Nice!
I beat it two nights ago; it took me 21 hours and 47 minutes.
SpoilerRegarding the ending, I think it was absolutely perfect. What's interesting is how all over the internet, game reviewers are pretty much universally in agreement that Joel is essentially a "bad" guy. Likeable yes. But selfish and not a true "hero." This would be solidified by his lie.
I disagree with this so damn much!
Joel saved Ellie. Earlier on Joel and Ellie discussed what could happen at the lab and when the topic of needles and taking blood came up, Ellie seemed hesitant to even want to go through that. Joel reassured her (not that she was unwilling, but she was definitely nervous at the idea of even having blood drawn). I don't think she had any real suspicion that she might have to die to save the world.
Marlene said that "(Ellie) would want this." I don't know about that. Maybe. But I have to doubt she was 100% positive herself. Otherwise, she would have woken Ellie up to to tell her that they knew it might come down to this. It seemed to me that waking Ellie up was AVOIDED. In my opinion, Marlene is the quasi-villain here. Not Joel. Though I understand when the fate of humanity is at stake nothing can really be seen as all black or all white.
Note: Some people have said that prior to the lab - when Ellie was obviously distressed - they believe that was an indication that Ellie had at least an idea that she might have to die to save the world. Though a reasonable idea, I viewed it differently. I think she was sort of at an emotional crux. David had attempted to rape her, and I think she was afraid that her and Joel may end separating after the lab (she confessed earlier that all of the important people in her life had either left her or died). Joel and Marlene were really all she had left and I viewed this scene as understandable stress/worry. Not a belief that death was imminent (because if she KNEW it was imminent, she wouldn't have asked Joel about what to expect. This pretty much confirms to me that Marlene never laid this out as even a possibility to Ellie).
When I played the last level and felt like I was Joel. I wanted to cut down every single Firefly in proximity because I felt like what they were doing was morally wrong. And unlike most of the internet reviewers, this included the three doctors. And I don't believe I'm a psychopath. Or at least I don't think so.
When Ellie said "okay" at the end I agree with the rest of you. I think she knew there was more to this than what Joel had said. But I think deep down she needed him to comfort her, even if that was a lie.
I hope to NEVER play with Joel or Ellie ever again, by the way. I want a sequal and ample DLC, but this tale was perfect so I hope ND leave these two characters alone. I like where my imagination has them now. Joel singing to her and maybe teaching her how to swim. It's a beautiful thing and I want for their tale to end exactly where it did.
My favorite part was...
And yes, I did tear up...
Like a little girl...
Was the giraffe scene! Ugh. It chokes me up just typing about it.
What a special moment. What a special game. 10/10. GOTY. Hands down.Last edited by Heroesandvillains; 06-24-2013, 01:39 PM.Comment

Re: The Last of Us (PS3)
Question:
I was watching my brother play yesterday and he missed the bow.
Will he be able to find one later on or does he need to restart back at that chapter?Comment

Re: The Last of Us (PS3)
Almost forgot,if any of you are going to replay the game...I HIGHLY suggest you play on Survivor (if you haven't already).
It adds so much more as to how you should address a situation, and actually makes me feel that I AM Joel, and what would I do to survive and get through the different encounters.
Oh yea...and the beginning? even though I knew what was going to happen,I STILL got all choked up and got watery eyes.
A real testament to this games beauty and story telling.People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.“I believe the game is designed to reward the ones who hit the hardest – If you can’t take it, you shouldn’t play!” Jack Lambert“Quarterbacks should wear dresses.” Jack LambertComment

Re: The Last of Us (PS3)
Got the game last Friday and I completed the part where they are at the Docks. I haven't played game since then. I sort of lost interest. The battles are similiar to what you see in GTA (nothing too exciting or out of the ordinary) Does the game pick up after the Docks?
I know how to throw the bricks but not really sure how to use them as a weapon. So far, I've just been wasting bullets and strangling guys.Comment

Re: The Last of Us (PS3)
Thanks. I had one more thought for now.
SpoilerI've heard a lot of speculation about the reason people believe Ellie was so quite and short with Joel at the beginning of Spring. Again, I've read multiple times that some took it as her "knowing" that death was a possibility to save mankind at the lab.
But think about how Spring starts.
Ellie is staring at the drawing of a deer when Joel is trying to say sometimg to her (which she isn't paying attention to).
Joel finally has to say, "Ellie! Did you hear me?!"
To me, the depiction of a deer here is significant. In Winter, we play as Ellie as she's on her hunt. She and Joel are literally starving (remember, she apologizes when she returns to him with only the medication and the rabbit).
Joel is on the brink of death. And the way she handles that bow (and tracks the deer) tells me this isn't the first time she's scavenged the woods before. Remember, there's a time lapse between Fall and Winter.
And I'm still of the belief that on that hunt, David tried to rape her. She was imprisoned, nearly molested, nearly killed and nearly raped.
That deer drawing seemed to signify her loosing her innocence.
I think she was distraught over this, not the idea that she MIGHT die at the lab.
Anyway, just my two cents on why she she so distant before the giraffes.Last edited by Heroesandvillains; 06-24-2013, 02:40 PM.Comment
