    Flight Simulator Discussion

Whatever your flight sim of choice...

I know we have a few of us on here.

I think I am going to get the PMDG 737 NGX for Christmas for FSX and am excited about it. I have previously purchased Wilco's E-170/190 and their Airbus 319/320/321/330/340s, but the NGX is too good to pass up. It looks amazing. I love the HUD in the virtual cockpit, too. The Wilco Airbuses have a HUD in the 2d cockpit, but it is sometimes hard to believe and I am not much of a fan of flying in the 2D cockpit, to be honest (though 2D cockpit has its uses when operating the autoflight functions and such).

I think I saw Chaos81 on the PMDG forums once? What are your impressions of it?

Man the hours me and a friend put in on the series. Still have everything including flight sticks and the AWESOME manual that I used to study for hours.

Nice! I used to have loads of fun with Jane's Fighter Anthrology back in the day (it came out in 1997), but I hadn't bought another combat sim until I got LockOn: Flaming Cliffs 2 a few months ago, but I haven't played it a lot, yet.

I just downloaded the PMDG 737 NGX and did the tutorial flight. It was really nice. I look forward to flying more flights with it!

Wow what a surprise to find such a post on here!

Hard core Flight Simmer here. Hold a PPL and was a beta tester for Project Opensky/FSX, I am quite obsessed with the whole flight simming actually lol.

I love the new PMDG, for fans of the 737, have you guys checked out the Ifly 737NG?

The PMDG MD-11 is also a stunner!

While I love flight sims....I've grown tired of the modern era jet flight sims.
Until they come out with a BoB type WWII era flight sim, with a full dynamic campaign....I'm staying out of flight sims.

Considering I've built a hybrid racing/flight sim cockpit(Lexus car seat.....nose cone cockpit.....42 inch monitor...side consoles for shifters/flight sticks....and I swap out my ECCI racing controls for the HOTAS Warthog flight system and CH Pro pedals for flight sims)......that's saying a lot for how much I'm tired of modern jet fighters.

That and I was disappointed with Cliffs of Dover..

I'm not really into flight simulators, but my dad is SO into it! The realer/more accurate/complicated/more learning curve - the better. He has a PC and always asks me if I know any good flight sims that fit his standards. Any recommendation? He usually likes those military airplanes - current or WWII (not futuristic)...or even better - helicopters.

                  Re: Flight Simulator Discussion

                  Here you go.

This was a walk-in closet that I converted to an office(the part you can't see where I'm taking the pic from) and off to the right(where you can see) a simulator area.

It's in two pieces...the base of the seat/side consoles and the base of the nose cone(sorry, you can't see it that well....it's tight in there and the monitor takes up the space from wall to wall as you can see)....which hoses the monitor/pedals and wheel. I threw a few gauges in the front wall for effect.
I had plans on building an entirely enclosed cockpit, but I used that space for something else...so I had to scale it back. I did it in two pieces to accommodate users of varying sizes as you can move the seat section back and forth(not the seat though...it's bolted directly to the base without the slide bar from the vehicle) to make up you height as the pedals are fixed as well.

Not perfect...but it's pretty sweet with the wheel/pedals and shifter(for Nascar races)

I do plan on cleaning up the wires a bit...so please excuse that.

I also had to replace the shifter console as the original one also contained an electronic board I made to have the keyboard function keys...but it was too large for this space, so I just have the keyboard mounted off to the left side(not in pic)

Works really well when racing. I love F1 '11 with this setup.

You need to do your dad a favor and get him DCS' Black Shark (high end, ultra complex military chopper sim) or their DCS A-10.

Google it.. trust me it is...

How is the performance with those games? My laptop can handle FSX quite sufficiently, but from the screenshots I've seen of DCS's A-10, I have to doubt that it could handle it.

Also look up Rise of Flight if you want something different. The game looks beautiful. They have a limited access version that is free to download. Then you can pay to add more planes and custom kits.

I have DCS A-10 & Black Shark. Talk about a handful...

Man, the Jane's series of flight sims were great. I played the original IL2 series alot. The new IL2 Cliffs of Dover will be there in time. They released it way too early. I have it but have not played it much becuase I am too busy with other things, however I hear that the game is starting to get respectable after a few patches. My guess is by the time the next expansion to the series comes out it will be what it should have been at release...a must own.

If your system can handle FSX on high then you should be fine. Mind you don't expect to run A-10 on high, thats a system predator!
