For those thinking about picking up the PC version, make sure you check out Nexus Mods. Full of some great addons and graphics updates.

Wow, didn't know there were mods for this game. Thanks for the heads up!

I definitely need to play JA 2.

          GOG has it for $10

a *tiny* little bit of new info on the iOS version. hopefully more info and a release date @ E3. take my $$ already dammit!

XCOM: Enemy Unknown for iPad will support cloud saves and multiplayer | Polygon

Firaxis Games's XCOM: Enemy Unknown for iOS will support cloud saves so players can start a game on an iPad and continue it on an iPhone, according to a 2K Games representative. The game will also support multiplayer, but the multiplayer mode will come in a free title update that is due to release later down the line.

Polygon recently played a demo of XCOM: Enemy Unknown on iPad and we were able to experience the game's touch control optimizations. Where a player would use their mouse to move the camera and zoom in and out in the PC version of the game, the iOS version allows players to move the camera with a finger, zooming in and out by pinching and pulling on the screen.

Controlling characters involves tapping on a soldier to select and double tapping a location to get them to move. Players can select soldiers to perform actions by either finding them on the map and tapping on them directly, or using the swiping motion to swipe between soldiers.

According to publisher 2K Games, XCOM: Enemy Unknown for iOS is the full XCOM game with fewer maps and slightly lower resolution textures due to the limitations of the hardware. However, the differences aren't noticeable and, during our time with the game, we did not encounter repeated maps.

So I keep getting my *** kicked when I reach the first Alien Terror Attack. I went through and restarted because I had no idea what I was doing with research and the whole base stuff, but man...that mission is so difficult at first. Any thoughts/tips on how to get through that?

                  1) Accept the fact that you can't save everyone
                  2) Work in groups of 2; unless you have a support class with multiple med kits (they can go solo)
                  3) Make sure your sniper class has the ability to aim at targets in any teammate's line of sight (this option comes after they make Cpl I think)
                  4) Work through the map methodically, but make sure you cover ground quick

I'm just about to fire this up. Any good mods I should install or just go vanilla the first time?

                        Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

IMO, first playthrough should be vanilla. Then, depending upon how hard of a time you had, try Ironman mode with a few of the Second Wave options. Ironman mode + Impossible difficulty is very hard in my opinion, but very rewarding for making "good decisions".

Some mods I recommend, after you playthrough a few times:

I only just stated playing and have already put 10 hours in. Time flies.

Horrible losing key guys, lol. It's making each move so critical.

Been using the xcom tookbox mod to change a few things. Only thing I wish it had was the option to lengthen injuries. They're too short and my A team is usually healthy by the time another mission roles around. With a ton of soldiers, be good to have more rotation forced on you.

Anyone know if there is a way to change the length?

Love this game. Not nearly finished and had one country already pull out but the one more mission here is affecting my sleep, lol.

Had four high ranked guys from my A team wiped out by a grenade which exploded a car. Just crushing.
