Wow, I will have to rethink whether I buy the game or not now that they are indicating you have to be connected.

I think yes and no. The roads aren't locked to the grid, but it looks like the buildings are.

I guess it's really tough and I bet there will be mods to vary things up. I am hopping for diagonal lots, but we'll see.

I hope Maxis takes some cues from the NAM and makes the sims smarter in transportation from the get go, along with various pieces and such for all the roads/highways/rails/etc. I would hate to have to buy an expansion just to use avenues likes in SimCity 4.

I have to wait and see how that's like with multiple cities. In any case, I'm not going to linger on transportation and such for now (although the no job AI bug was a bummer at times). I expect the lighting and textures to improve, but so far so good.

Have you guys tried Cities XL 2012? I recently got it. It's not bad. The graphics are pretty good. They opened it up for modding and there are some great mods out there. There is a Real Highway Mod out that allows you to do pretty much anything with you highway system. I'm building a city right now and it's been pretty fun. My girlfriend is starting to get annoyed with me now!

In other news, the game is apparently dropping the number and just going with the title "SimCity". I guess almost a decade between games gives you a chance to reboot the series numbering.

THere is no reason why a game like Sim City should require an internet connection. I should be able to play this on an airplane if i damn well feel like it.
