    Re: Sorcery (PS3 Move)

Thanks for the review and I haven't read many reviews yet but the few I have everyone seems to be on the same page. Most of the negatives about the game have to due with length and nothing major with gameplay are story.

Somestimes quantity isnt always the best and you should go with quality and thats what im hoping is the case here. I would rather have a game thats fun from start to finish that I enjoy then one that drags on for a few hours. If the game play is fun and I like the story then I'll go back and play it again at some point

The graphics are mediocre but the two main characters (one you control and the cat sidekick) have a pretty good story and voice acting. This is the first full game (not party games) I have ever played with motion controls that actually felt like the controls were a positive and not some side gimmick to sell extra controllers. The Move controller works well with the spells and it feels good plus there are some strategies.

My 7 year old son has played most of the time (I've played a little myself) with me watching a lot. We've also had it on the lowest difficulty (apprentice) so he doesn't get frustrated and for the most part he has rarely died. He's up to the 4th magic power (fire) now and there are six in the game. Most reviews have been average with the criticisms being that the game is short. I don't think it's fair to compare game length of a $40 game to a full $60 game imo. It probably is short so I would suggest playing on a harder difficulty so it takes a little longer. I have no clue how hard the game is on the higher difficulties but there are four settings.

The time you are playing is fun and the new powers the game introduces keeps the game from feeling repetitive. There are actually quite a few things to do with the 6 main powers you get through the game (secondary things with them too) plus a shield. You can't jump up on things and the game is on rails (not open world) which is a good thing for younger gamers imo. Some different potions you get also add some variety throughout.

The games powers and controls develop nicely so you are never really confused as to how to do things. The one area where we have neglected is the potions. You have to collect a bunch of things and try mixing them together which provide powers and upgrades for your abilities. We only have four but there are tons of slots for new potions and upgrades that we should have by now but don't. There is an alchemist who shows up occassionally that you can buy and sell stuff and I think we have screwed that part up. Since we are on Apprentice it hasn't hurt us.

Overall though my son loves it and I've enjoyed playing and watching.

We haven't finished the game yet but it will probably finish out around 6 hours as we are getting towards the end. I agree about quality over quantity. I'd rather have fun than have them add pointless other crap just to extend the length of the game and make it feel repetitive.

I kind of feel that's what happened with inFamous. I loved the first game but there were too many repetitive side missions that by the time I was done I was burnt out on the series. Still haven't played the sequel yet.

There are a decent variety of bad guys and creatures that you have to fight, most of which are pretty easy on Apprentice although you can get swamped by a lot of them at times. Some magic works better than others while some magic won't work at all on certain creatures. The boss battles are pretty cool and sometimes take some figuring out. Quite a few bosses in the game and I like this.

Not a lot of puzzles in the game and they aren't overly difficult but are interesting. Maybe they could have put more in the game but right now it doesn't feel forced. I think the game length is going to be near perfect for this game when done.

It sounds like the game is made for skill levels from childhood to adult. Thats a good point about the game length and I was thinking the same thing. I can play a game like RDR, Batman, Uncharted are any blockbuster like that for 20 hours and think nothing of it. But a game like this I'm not sure I would want to atleast not and enjoy it.

Beat the game last night. The final boss was hard. My kids got scared and just handed me the controls to win and I must say it was a bit challenging on the lowest level. I still won but I wonder how hard it is up a couple difficulty levels? I told my son we'll try playing through it again on the 2nd easiest level. We all had a good time and I want to see if we can get every treasure chest and potion (or at least more of them). This is a game that will appeal to younger gamers for sure but I think anyone (including me) can enjoy the game. It was definitely fun and better than I thought it would be.

There is a trophy for beating the game without ever using a potion to get back your health. That would be very tough on anything other than Apprentice and I don't know if I could do that on even Apprentice in the last boss battle. I've never gotten a platinum trophy before and that trend continues lol. I think we got 42%.
