        Re: Until Dawn (PS4)

To be perfectly honest, im not happy with what Sony/Supermassive is doing with Until Dawn. They both get a excellent sleeper hit and I personally think that they should just go straight to the sequel. Regardless of whether or not the DLC is free, I simply wouldn't even talk about the game. I would stay quiet (which is opposite of what they're actually doing) and build anticipation for the sequel as Until Dawn can easily be a new franchise IP but at the same time, it needs to be handled carefully.

The beyond horrible Rush of Blood shouldn't be using the Until Dawn name at all. To me, it's a huge mistake. Just yesterday alone, Sony has made two mistakes. This is one of them with the other being related to Gravity Rush. They're basically doing the opposite of what they should be doing.

You're referring to the VR announcement of the on the rails FPS they're making from this game correct?

If so I completely agree, this game would be a perfect VR game, I'd probably need to wear diapers and would love that.

Yes, I am but I disagree in regards to Until Dawn being a VR game period and here's why - it's a heavily story and character driven and based game. You need to see the characters and the choices. People don't realize that EVERY game for VR is in first person (which makes sense since it's VR) and that doesn't translate well to third person games. Until Dawn is a third person game with a fixed camera (ala old school RE) and using the name for the some horrible on rails shooter that has NOTHING to do with this IP whatsoever is a huge mistake.

I understand that Sony wants to "cash in" on Until Dawn but I would be thinking about the sequel and cashing in more with that as opposed to just getting a slight boost with this horrible VR game. If someone who plays Until Dawn and loves it but isn't the type to do research on info for Rush for Blood, they will think it's like Until Dawn and then, boom!!! People get pissed off because it's not what they're expecting. Casual consumers aren't on forums, message boards, etc. They see the name and think that it's what they know even if it isn't.

In short, Sony is hurting the Until Dawn name, brand and IP with the rushed decisions that they're making and im not happy about it at all because Until Dawn is a good story and character driven game but it needs to be handled carefully because it's also a game that not everyone is going to like or get into. Ugh, whatever.

Excellent points but couldn't you play in the first person of whichever character you were controlling at that point and then look around at the characters like you'd have to if you were actually in the game?

I'm not that familiar with VR, I understand the concept but not everything that it entails. I think the story of Until Dawn would make a great VR, but obviously tweaks would have to be made to the engine.

Anyway, this genre is what interests me most of about VR, without some good horror games I'd never bother with the headset anyway.

The way the game is setup and structured, it's not going to have the same affect if it's in first person. Also, for VR, games need to be built from the ground up for not, not just, "oh, let's change the view to first person" and done. To me, that's not going to work.

Until Dawn is easily a franchise IP but Sony just needs to be careful because as easily as it was a sleeper hit, the next one could just as easily bomb.

As for VR itself, I personally have no interest in it at all especially since I prefer third person over first person by far plus you're not really going to be playing games for a long period of time. The games aren't expected to be long because you have to use VR to play them. People complain about The Order: 1886 being a short game and I can easily see that happening with the VR games.

With that said, have to wait and see. I do like that Robinson game and the London Heist game but would I buy VR for them? Nope. Back to Until Dawn, I just don't want Sony screwing it up because the IP has a lot of long term potential and upside.

Makes sense, and I'm in complete agreement about Sony messing with Until Dawn too much. Was easily my 2nd best game of the year after Bloodborne, even though initially I didn't like what happened after Chapter 6 I grew to really love the game overall.

                      Re: Until Dawn (PS4)

I started this up today and played through the first two episodes/chapters.

For subsequent playthroughs do your items collected carry over or do you have to collect them for each new game?

I've enjoyed what I've played so far. The game is probably the closest thing to a movie I have ever played. The pacing is surprisingly well done so that you don't feel like you're just pushing the LS forward the whole time.

How long did it take you guys to run through? I'd like to play at least one more time just to see how the other choices affect things.

It's around 7-8 hours long. You can also replay certain chapters if you want to jump into specific parts to see how your choices effect the story.

I'm about halfway through Chapter 8. This game is awesome. I know some have said they noticed a dip in the second half of the game and while I can understand since some of the tension is gone I'm still enjoying it just as much as the beginning. Seeing all the threads connect together has been great. I kept expecting the game to become a victim of throwing too much together, but everything has been developed really well.

I've made it this far with only one death:

                            Spoiler

The reveal of the villain I had already assumed, but the acting in this game is pretty damn good so the revelation scene was still great.
