    Project Zomboid

Just found this game a few days ago, but it's addicting so far.

Skills, traits, etc are in the game if you want to use them.

They have a demo version, or you can pay like $8 for the "full" version.

It's way more in depth than I expected when I first saw it, and at the very least worth a shot. You have to think about what you're doing and be more cautious, not just run around otherwise you'll be in trouble.

    Official site:

Project Zomboid is the ultimate in zombie survival. Alone or in MP: you loot, build, craft, fight, farm and fish in a struggle to survive. How will you die?

Remember hearing about this when they got their code hacked and lost months of work. Definitely will give it a try.

Make sure if you give it a shot that you download the latest version from the forums on their site. Otherwise you'll be behind a couple versions.

Is there a demo with the latest version?

Shak can you walk me through what I need to download to try this game out. I'm on the site but after downloading the "stable" 0.1.5d version then unzipping it there is no executable file to play the game. Kind of lost how to get this thing to play.

EDIT: Never mind shak, I figured it out. I had to edit the batch file to use Java 7

Woah, I'm sorry. I didn't check this because it seemed no one was giving it a shot. But glad you got it figured out. Just so you know, the latest update makes it harder but adds a lot of stuff to it as well.

And yes, it can definitely get very hectic. The longer you are alive the harder it gets. Good luck!

                    Hope you guys enjoy it.

EDIT: Also, that wiki might be helpful to keep handy when you're playing incase something is confusing. There are the common tips, but they also have help on how to handle each of the "moodles" your guy can get.

I'm going to explain my first two play through last night then give my impression.

                          First attempt:
I started out with the story mission hoping it would have some sort of tutorial. Lucky for me it did.

As I started the game my wife is laying in a bed bleeding from her leg. I needed to stop the bleeding so I found some blankets then ripped them up to create bandages. After we got the bleeding under control, I had to make the house safe. So I found a hammer, some nails, and boards. Then I went to work boarding up the doors and windows of the first floor. By this point it was extremely late and we were both starving and tired. It was too late to look for food and had to sleep on a empty stomach.

In the morning when I got up I headed out to a house close by in search for food. As I walked in the kitchen a zombie came at me and I had to use my hammer to bash its head in. Lucky the confrontation was worth it, I found a pot, soup, and a can opener. I then rushed back to our safe house. Boarded the door behind me and went straight to the kitchen. I used the can opener to open the soup, then put the soup in the pot, and the pot on the stove. A few min goes by and my wife is screaming from upstairs that it smells good. We were finally going to get to eat. I then walk to check the living room area for anything worth finding, just as I did, my wife screams "Smells like somethings burning!". So I rush back toward the stove and just as I get to it and start taking out the soup, the kitchen catches on fire. I run upstairs to try and get my wife out the house but it was too late. We both died in a fiery blaze together.

                          Lesson: Fire can happen

                          Second attempt:
Sandbox mode was where I went immediately next. Time to see how long I can last.

I chose to start out as the Park Ranger, which gave me the outdoors mans perk, negative of short sighted, and positive was silent in movement.

I spawned somewhere on the second floor of a big apartment building. After spending a good 30 min scavenging everything in there I had a ton of food and a shotgun. I ended up having to spend the night in this building since it took so long scavenging this location. After I woke up and had MUCH more visual distance, I decided it was time to head out and find a hand to hand weapon.

The moment I stepped out in the street there were walkers. They were scattered in numbers but plenty of them. I weaved my way through them and high tailed it north. Only a few min in to walking, I see a survivor running from couple zombies. So I take out running after him. He runs into a small house and I head in after him. Right as I entered the house, I see him surrounded by 3 zombies attacking him. I run past them in search of a hand to hand weapon in the house to try and save him.

I found nothing in the house and decided I had to leave him. I opened the front door and got hit instantly by a zombie who was at the door. I take out running and don't look back. At this point, I'm starving, tired, and panicked. I knew I had to find a place to eat, sleep, and check my wounds. I see a diner and head in. I eat some chips and soda, then check to see if I was bitten. Lucky enough I was only clubbed and took little damage.

I knew I could not sleep in this diner because of all the windows, so I had to find a building I could hide in. It is now damn near pitch black. I head for the front door, right as I open the door I see 10,000 zombies. I thought OHHHHHH ****!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't get through this way, so I run back in the dinner looking for a back door. YESSSSS!! Found it, I opened the door and I'm greeted by another 10,000 zombies. OMG! I'm trapped! I run back in the dinner which is now being filled by zombies from both directions. I run behind the counter and take out my shotgun to go down in a hail of bullet. CLICK! CLICK! CLICK!..............I picked up no bullets!!!!!!!!!! I am then swarmed and taken down behind the counter, the wall behind me covered in my blood.

Lesson: Don't go out at night unarmed. Visual distance is critical and a horde can surprise you at any moment.

                          Impressions:
WOW this is a blast to play. It was easy to pick up and play but addicting to where you can't put it down. I spent almost two hours playing it. I think that alone I am close to getting my money worth. I'm going to speed a lot of time playing it! I can't wait to see the improvements they make along the way and trying out different mods.

I am currently playing the older 1.5 build which is the older graphics and slower zombies. I am going to try the newer 2.0 version this weekend.

For 8 bucks I can honestly say, if you are a zombie fan, minecraft fan, and indie game fan then go ahead and try it out. It is addicting little game. For what it is, I'm glad I bought it because there seems to be a ton of re-playability!

                          7/10
I give it a 6/10 because it is still not finish and missing a bunch of key features they mention the game will include.

                            Great write up Phobia.

I had similar experiences to you....and had a blast on my first go around.
I didn't do the tutorial and jumped straight into sandbox.

-There needs to be more info on what to do to offset the things happening on the right of the screen.
For instance....I was woozy right from the start....it then went to nausea and then to sick. I had(have) no idea on how to combat that.
I didn't even know how to equip and use the axe I found and went into full on escape mode every time I'm out.
I don't like the combat either(I figured out how to fight )...it's a little wonky and led me to getting bit.
I made it 6 days 18 hours on my first go around and it was definitely fun!

Just a bit more polish and options and this would be a gem!

Yea the one negative I had like you Knight was holding control to fight. I understand the reasoning behind it. It forces you to choose, MOVE FAST or STAND YOUR GROUND. It is a good concept, I just don't like the useage.
