For me..it's NBA 2K13.

Not because it's a horrible game. But because it did not meet the hype and expectations I had for it. Not sure if it even could.

Unfortunately for me, as much as I absolutely loved the first, Darksiders II was a huge let down.

My surprise game would be ACIII. After not really being able to get into the series before, this title is absolutely fantastic, from the graphics, to the controls, to how the story is told and handled. I hope they stick with this formula for future games, as this is, IMO, the best entry by far.

Just for the BS endings - Mass Effect 3 and Assassin's Creed 3. Terrible way to end a series.

Over all game let down, Medal of Honor Warfighter. I got so tired of breaching doors every time I turned around. And this is a FPS, why the hell is there not ONE but THREE very long driving chase missions in a FPS ? That was BS, if I wanted to drive cars for long periods of time I would have a bought Forza.

Far as sports - NCAA 13. Didn't live up to the hype. And motion blur ? Don't even notice it at all, it didn't add a damn thing to the game. Shovel passes ? Seen the CPU do it ONCE since JULY. And I'm still waiting for Real Assignment AI to kick in one of these years. Heisman Challenge was a huge dud to me. Even more sure due to the fact they HIDDEN those players ratings. So who knows how damn high above 100 they went for the heisman players. And what happened to the 100s of hairstyles and player models ? That was the biggest lie they ever told this whole generation.

NCAA Football 13 for me. Just tired of the hype and total lack of innovation. It doesn't play/feel like college football at all and it hasn't for a long time.

Max Payne 3
Not that I had a lot of expectations but it's the worst game I've ever actually purchased.

Assassin's Creed III
Nowhere near the quality of the others. Connor isn't a very good character. Way too many QTEs that often fail to work. After 4 games it still can't be trusted to understand what you're trying to do,I fell short on a leap of faith somehow. It's not one of the worst games of the year but this is disapointing games,not ones that are just bad. (Thus Bellator and NHL 13 are off the hook because I expected those to suck.)

I guess I can include KoA Reckoning in the sense that the mod tools weren't released and the company sunk.

I don't know how people thought Max 3 was horrible. I thought it was fantastic and really felt like a movie with way the story was told.

Goh tends to over exaggerate a bit. Worst ever? I highly doubt that. Now I think we all know goh well enough that all the flaws are 10x greater when he plays the game on his system. It is not that I disagree with all his points, I just think he over exaggerates the faults to much. Most of his assessments I think are correct for the most part, it is the delivery that is wrong lol.

Then the games he praises such as Binary Domain don't do him any favors, which I'm not saying BD is not good but it for sure is worst than several of the games he says are horrible.

SSX

SSX was freaking terrible, good lord it was horrible. One of the few series that I still keep around from the Xbox / PS2 era was the SSX series and loved all of them. SSX, Tricky, SSX3...all are still played and we still have a great time with them.

The new SSX was a step back in every possible facet with the exception to graphics. Tracks, music, tricks , etc....all suffered a great decline in this series.


Diablo 3

They really messed this series up. After level 20ish I never saw another upgrade I could use, so just sold all loot and bought what was on the auction house. Game revolved around farming gold and not loot. Everytime there was a spec that came out that seemed to do well, they nerfed it....so buying loot on the AH was even pointless because within a week or 2, you never knew if all the gear you just bought would be worthless.

Need for Speed series

If I wanted to play Burnout, I have Burnout to play. When I buy Need for Speed, I want to play Need for Speed and not Burnout. This series has turned into nothing more than Burnout with a slapped on label called Need for Speed. Most Wanted and Hot Pursuit are both hot garbage. The original Need for Speed Most Wanted that debuted with the Xbox back about 7+ years ago still runs circles around the more recent NFS series titles.

Guild Wars 2

Fun leveling up and seeing content once, but thats about it. For an MMO, this probably had a shorter lifespan for me than even SWTOR if that was possible. PvP consists of nothing but attacking doors and other player charecters that dont even show up on the screen. Majority of content is boiled down to going to a public quest area, identifying your AoE skill and hitting it ad nasuem. 3, 3, 3, 3, 3 3, 3, 3, 3, ,3 ,3 , 3, 3, 3, 3,3 ,3 , 3, 3,3 ,3 etc is the best way to level up not only your adventure level, but if you want your legendary and need the minimum of 2.5 MILLLION karma for the vendor mats for it, thats all you do.

Removal of the holy trinity just made the game dungeons terrible with mobs that 1 shot you, no healers, no aggro gaining abilities and dungeons that drop vendor trash and no loot. You want dungeon loot? Run the dungeon from start to finish over 200+ times for enough tokens to get the set. No thank you

totally agree. Max Payne 3 had a ton of awesomeness going on there. but to each his own..

Nice thread, by the way.. My pick is Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. I loved the previous Ghost Recons, but this one just didn't do it for me. The bugs, graphics, perfect shot computer teammates.. I just couldn't get into it. Bummer too, I convinced a buddy to get it when it came out and we both traded it two weeks after release.

Yah MP3, was top 3 for me this year easily, and one of the best games I played this gen.

I didn't say horrible. Below average more like it. I expected fun and got frustration for the most part. Haven't even finished it. I can only handle about 1 stage at a time before I'm falling off a sign or dodging somewhere I had no intention of dodging or I'll be missing guns or something glitches or whatever the crap.

No it probably is. Certainly the most recent worst game I've bought. I'm only talking about games I've actually purchased. Not just rented or played. Like the actual worst games this year...SSX,NHL 13,Bellator,Tiger Woods,Soul Calibur V,Neverdead...I didn't buy any of them. Max Payne 3 is better than those. I only bought it because it was $40 after about 2 weeks with the GTA episodes on the 360. 2 weeks after that the PC version was $30 on a Steam sale. Then after another week the 360 one still with GTA episodes was $20.

Binary Domain has its problems (especially the PC version) but that story is excellent.
