I've done a pretty good job this year of not buying a lot of games at launch. (Tired of the cookie cutter crap)
Anyways it would be Diablo 3. Most other games I waited to see user reviews and then buy used and if it sucks I take it back.

Diablo 3 and kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning. My most anticipated game of 2012 Diablo 3 just didn't live up to the hype, it was fun for a playthrough on normal, but the replay value was squashed when finding loot became a chore as you had to pretty much buy it off the auction house. Kingdoms of Amalur had so much potential, for the first time there was an RPG that had great gameplay......and then there was the option for no tougher difficulty, predictable A.I., and the cheesy storyline.

Sleeping Dogs was the game for me that didn't disappoint in 2012, haven't played it in a while, but the game was a breath of fresh air for the open world action genre.

Re: Biggest Disappointing Game(s) of the Year.

Hard to choose between Diablo 3 and Madden 13. I've had low expectations for Madden for years, but I can still usually enjoy them a little bit. I tried to enjoy this one, but the lack of custom rosters was such a detraction it might as well have had a game killing bug that froze at every loading screen.

Diablo 3 I was excited about, but I had tempered my excitement when I found out Blizzard was going the noobie friendly route of taking out customization of characters (at least to the level we saw in D2). I had fun with it for about 2 weeks, and I don't think I've touched it since.

        Honorary mention:
Final Fantasy XIII-2. I was excited that they were continuing with the FF13 storyline only to find out that Lightning is only in the game for about 10 minutes and it really has very little to do with the original story/character wise. I still haven't taken it out of the wrapper.

I just said the same thing to myself the other day about 2 franchises. Madden and Call of Duty.

My tow biggest let downs is Madden 13 and Black Ops 2.

I see I'm alone with Black ops 2 but the game failed with me in the map designs. So concerned about campers all the fun and creativity in playing in a map is gone. The maps force everyone to play one way and that is running all over the place. It gets boring real fast for me.

Now with Madden the quote I have below is the main thing for me. The game simple looks sloppy and reckless.

Plus RTP does not belong in a football game. Madden and COD franchise has ran its course on me. I will simply stick to playing the older cOD games online. They present much more fun and creativity.

Gotta be Diablo 3. Me and my buds at work were so excited for it. We all gave it about a month of pure boredom before we called it quits.

I played Madden for like a day and didn't play it again after renting it, so I don't know if it can even be a disappointment. I didn't have that high of expectations to begin with.

Assassin's Creed III by a mile. What a mess of a game.

Madden 13 would be there too, CCM is still at least a year away from being ready for prime time. Not to mention the shift to basically an online only game with the terrible AI.

Transformers Fall of Cybertron. Wanted it to be so much more than it was.

Tiger Woods 13. Kept freezing, patches never fixed it. Never getting the series again.

SSX. what was that game?!? It certainly wasn't the SSX I knew and loved.

Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City. Ugh. Simply ugh.

Re: Biggest Disappointing Game(s) of the Year.

I only bought 3 games released this year:

                Mass Effect 3
                Xenoblade Chronicals
                The Last Story

The only disappointment was the ending of ME3.

I probably bought double that last year; this year pretty much sucked for me. Although in a few years, once I can get a good deal on some games, I'll probably pick up XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Spec Ops: the Line.
                Ottawa Senator's Dynasty (NHL 09)
Rising From The Ashes: A Phoenix Coyotes Dynasty (EHM 07)
The Coaching Career of James Aldridge (NFL Head Coach 09)

Re: Biggest Disappointing Game(s) of the Year.

Of the games I purchased this year, Madden 13 is without question the one I regret purchasing.

CCM is something that sounds good and looks good on paper but the actual execution of CCM was horrible. And then, in typical EA fashion, they catered to the masses and added things back like Fantasy Drafts, even though prior to release the developers said fanstasy draft wouldn't work with CCM. So, of course, they patch those modes in and it breaks other areas of the game.

The AI in the game is by far the worst I've seen in years from a football game. How hard is it to have CPU teams play a style similar to the real-life counterpart? Way too many run plays (especially on 3rd down or goal line situations) and the lack of urgency in 2-minute drills is something I cannot overlook.

It's laughable to me that the Vita version of Madden 13 is far and away superior to the PS3/360 version of Madden 13.

And now I ordered it for Wii U. I want to try the Gamepad features and I am hoping the absence of the physics engine makes the contact and tackling look better.

It played much smoother on Vita when I played it on my buddy's, so w/o the undercooked infinity engine and the new gamepad features, I imagine it'd be a very solid game on WiiU.

It is IMO. Not as "smooth" as the 360 version but still fun to play an the gamepad stuff in really nice. Only issue that pretty much killed it for me is the ABXY buttons are reversed. So with being in a Madden 360 league it's hard going back and forth...or will be since I have to wait till season 2 to play again. No playoffs for me lol

It's crazy but I bet the Vita and Wii U versions are probably the better ones too this year.

It's not even about whether or not it lived up to the hype for me, but Madden 13 just doesn't cut it. At this point, all I like about the game is that it has the NFL.

That is so sad, really. But this series just falls flat in so many ways for me. I just need a new look at video game football.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

I feel you there, Dave. I'm happy with the Vita version, so I can get my NFL fix there. The 360 copy is getting traded in.
